Can someone let the internet know that EVERY FANDOM has cringe in it and that EVERY FANDOM has its bad apples? "MHA is the worst bc it's cringe" "the gacha community is horrible, it's all inappropriate!!"
But weren't we taught not to lump people in a box? To not assume or judge a book by its cover? Every fandom has a toxic side. And just because the toxic side is louder in some as compared to others, doesn't make everyone who likes the series bad.
(Side note, kinda off topic, but how do people call Tumblr toxic when Reddit, 4chan, Twitter, and kick exist as platforms?? Also, isn't the side of Tumblr ur on filtered by your interests? So in order to find the bad side, you have to be actively looking for it?? Any who, rant over)
I'm gonna be taking a break from tiktok, the toxic hazbin fans on that site are running rampant lately. Thankfully, tumblr still has fandom etiquette and my moots are the best but the degeneration of fandom culture is so disheartening to see, people can't accept other headcanons or ships, they feel entitled to fanfiction and fanart, the widespread use of AI to replace artists and writers, the way everyone is so oversensitive about every little thing, the DLDI rule is forgotten at this point, people are being rude for NO REASON, the lack of critical thinking skills and media comprehension, the MISOGYNY my god, antis overtaking comment sections and being more obsessed with the show than the actual fans, purity culture proliferating like a disease, fans' expectation for every single character to cater to their experiences and if they don't then they're bad rep or poorly written or viv is glorifying abuse, god forbid someone tries to ship a rarepair or crackship which is one of the pillars fandoms are built on, people spreading leaks and spoilers with zero consideration for others or respect for the creators, THE INSISTANCE TO CENSOR AO3 LITERALLY WHAT THE FUCK as if it isn't THE online space created BECAUSE every other site was rigid and uncompromising. Ao3 has the best tagging system of any app and people still feel entitled to control what other people get to read or write instead of bothering to curate their own spaces the tags are there the warnings are there the description is there AND STILL people feel entitled to mold it so that it suits ONLY their tastes, normies bullied fans off of every single online space hence the creation of ao3 and now they worm their way there to try and bully everyone out again, get LOST
(Sorry for the vent, just needed to get it off my chest)
lol facts
“I hope this email finds you well”
First of all the only emails that ever find me well are from AO3
when fanfic authors mention ao3 or fanfiction in their fics breaking the 4th wall i feel personally attacked
it's great
the embarrassment of looking at an old fic for more than 0.5 seconds
did everyone magically remember atla exists in march
(and again i'm late but that's not anything new)
that feeling when you know there's a really popular fandom that you're going to get invested in but you really don't have the time
and then you know you're going to end up falling in love with it when there's like 5 people who are active
at least the fanfics are good ig-
opening the "My Works" tab on ao3 for the first time in 6 months
closing it and deciding maYBE next time
wait
people sort through a fandom for the first time using something other than bookmarks ???
getting into fandoms the time that it was popular is overrated anyway
I check ao3 to see the donation sign up
i turn around look back again
and now it's over the goal already ????
Love when a fandom shifts from calling characters Boyfriend's or Girlfriends in posts to calling them Husbands and Wives, its as if they actually got married at some point and we all just missed it
"His husband-" Omg congratulations! so sad I missed the ceremony I was doing my exams <3
"Her wife-" Hope the happy couple likes my wedding gift when it comes in the mail <3
characters have to be a little bit awful in ways that you cant defend. its good for the ecosystem. your honor he did do that. He did in fact do that
"It's not about the CANONICAL chemistry. Canon can go fuck itself. It's about the POTENTIAL for chemistry. It's about the fact that, had things gone just a little differently, had they gotten just a little more screentime together, they would be in a serious relationship."
-- Me explaining rarepairs and crackships and stuff to my sib
my favorite pairings are the ones that you can’t even bring yourself to care if it’s platonic or romantic or sexual or all of the above they just need to be together and happy and happy together
I'm sorry, cringe culture can't come to the phone right now. Why? Oh, cause it's dead!
I love headcanons as a concept because it is so silly to me that a person can look at some random character and just decide something about them.
You don’t even need evidence to back it up most of the time. It’s just vibes.
And everyone has their own little headcanons that we can trade around like Pokémon.
It’s especially great when a headcanon becomes so popular it’s basically accepted as canon.
To the person behind me on the bus, craning their head to stare at my phone screen in disbelief: yeah asshole that’s right, I AM reading wild kratts fanfiction right now. Yeah I’m a fully grown adult and yeah I have the entire internet at my fingertips and what I want to do right now is read this almost-100k-word-count Chris/Zach unfinished slowburn and you know what?? Its fucking fantastic!!! What do you have to say to that huh
PSA!!! This applies to all fandoms!
Ok so I’ve seen a lot of people posting things that are against certain Headcannon/ship things. If it’s a safe headcannon/ship please don’t do this!
Safe do Not include things that:
- glorify pedos
- glorify abuse
- are racist
- are sexist
- just generically hateful towards a group of people
I get it’s supposed to go against toxic people but there are other ways to do that! It ends up hurting people who use that ship/Headcannon for comfort or enjoyment. Saying things like ‘it will never come true’ or ‘that character isn’t gay’ doesn’t help anyone. We know, you’re just making things more toxic.
Raising awareness about a Headcannon or ship is not being hateful. An example is clarifying something about a culture or illness (mental and physical) for writers or to dispel rumours and harmful stereotypes around something. If you aren’t sure whether it’s raising awareness or hateful, don’t post it!
This has been a PSA!
Fandom is so different now and it’s becoming un-fun with how quickly shit moves.
I just want to enjoy things. I don’t want to have to play a game of Artist-Race that seems to be afoot lately.
Ya’ll eat up fandoms, leave artists and writers bone dry and then move on so fucking quickly then fucking wonder where all the Good Fandom Stuff is.
Idk Maybe cherish some things for longer. Reblog stuff. Interact with people. Comment and share.
Fandom is Capitalism now and I’m not being nuanced.
i'm so tired of the yaoi-ification of mlm ships where people feel the need to make one of them (usually the fandom-assigned bottom) into a teeny tiny waifish twink and the other into a huge musclebound super aggro guy (usually the fandom-assigned top) i know this is like a thing many people have been saying for years but i just feel like it has never actually gotten better in fandom spaces. the fatphobia of it, the gender essentialism, the homophobia, it's all so fucking annoying it makes me want to scream
Guys, remember that if you see some art or a fic that you love, commenting on it will absolute make the posters day, and your day will be made when they reply. "What if I'm being annoying? They won't even notice. This post is too old. 🥺🥺🥺" MAKE THAT COMMENT! GUSH YOUR HEART OUT! SPREAD JOY AND WHIMSY <3
"shipping" doesn't feel like the right term anymore. like im not looking at these two characters and thinking "outside of the canon they would make a good couple." or "i hope the author writes them to be together" shipping is shallow. shipping is taking two characters who have a potential, but dont really live up to it. shipping is just making shit up. that's jelsa. that’s shounen boys and their “love interests.” that's the entire disney princess catalogue pre-ariel. what im doing is im looking at WHAT THEY ALREADY ARE and thinking "woah. okay. incredible dynamic there. im gonna hyperfixate on it until i shrivel up and die" and if it happens their already existing dynamic has heavily romantic implications, then that has NOTHING to do with me and EVERYTHING to do with the canon🤷♀️
Mha "cringe" cosplayers, omegaverse ficwriters and fans, ao3/wattpad chronic users, artists who made those "derp humor" templates, fanon artists/enjoyers, comshippers, fujoshis with everlasting love to teacher x student stuff, hetalia/ch/cb fans etc etc, fandoms would be NOTHING without them
Our culture is not a trend for those who shame and harass everyone
I knew fandom culture was too white for me when i saw y'all try to act like censorship of nsfw drawings of children characters was a bad thing, literally fight against it like weirdos. Instead of idk discussing actual problems in fandoms like racism and misogyny.
