Request?: Yes Summery: Characters having a dead S/O Characters: Dazai, Chuuya, Atsushi, Akutagawa Genre: Fluff, slightly angsty (mostly Dazai's and Chuuya's part, Mentions of death (Atsushi), be warned spoilers of Storm-bringer!)

Dazai Osamu:
holy hell will this man make you help him with his pranks on poor kunikida-
like for real, this dude will grab u by the waist, look at you with the brightest puppy eyes and you can't help but to cave in.
He finds it so interesting you have the exact same traits as a real ghost, and for a ghost, you are the prettiest person he has ever seen.
He sometimes beg you to scare people by going through the wall and exit like you never existed (You also love to scare people its honestly very funny-
When you do it to him though, He'll dramatically scream like a little girl, making you embarrassed and him very amused (Cocky bastard-)
He does, however, when you two are alone in his apartment, Looking at you all admired as he hears all kinds of stories of people you meet.
If he told you about his past, He will slowly but surely give hints to let you know that he wants to know about Odasaku
You always smile gently while talking about Odasaku and what he told you to pass onto Dazai.
He will be very grateful to you if you ever did that.
Chuuya Nakahara:
Just like Dazai, He will be very interested into seeing you suddenly float around the mafia headquarters and see your ghostly powers in action
You tried scaring him once, did not end to well Poor boy legit broke his favourite wine glass, You had to fly away if you didn't wanna be a ghost twice-
He gently strokes your hair, even if it goes straight through, he really doesn't care at this point
Your ghost kisses always makes him chuckle
He does however, wonder about his friends, if you could see them too. He's to stubborn to ask though, but at some point, you figure it out and leave little things behind for him to find, Giving it as a signal that they are always with him and supporting his every decision
He always smile softly seeing those messages, making a mental note to Thank you for your hard work
Atsushi Nakajima:
This boy finds it so sad-
He loves you very much, but he just gets sad thinking you died cause of some stupid asshole or accident that caused your death.
He does however, always try to make you the happiest you've ever been when you were alive
You do help him out with missions, He doesn't get worried about you getting hurt since everything can go through you, so you always go first, Looking around the area if he's not in danger by any sort of threats.
At home you guys always talk about whatever you want to talk about, It sometimes leads to Atsushi Falling asleep while you gently tucks him in.
This boy has a whole lot of love in store for you
Akutagawa Ryunosuke:
Honestly, would be slightly surprised you would date him, and more surprised you would stick to him even when your dead
Little cold in the beginning, doesn't trust you too much. but slowly he warms up to you, trusting you a little bit more in life
But he definitely hates you when you scare him
His ability would've killed you by now if you weren't a ghost-
Besides that, he would ask you to check on anything that isn't suppose to happen, and you happily obey
Besides his cold Façade, you saw his sadness about you being dead, but luckily for both of you guys, You always had each other
He loves you, in his own stubborn way.

atsushi is perfect of course πββοΈ he's a guy who went through insane traumas and is still fighting for the greater good that's goat!!!
i kinda love seeing the fandom fight to either vilify or woobify this guy like. that's just an 18 yr old doing his job straight out of the orphanage who gaf (me!!!!! i gaf πββοΈ) also he's funny af! him being annoyed by dazai, weirded out by ranpo at first ("he doesn't so any work yet y'all love him??" then being like nvm i love him too), etc
i think he's super well written and an interesting character! he's entertaining and the perfect main character :) i love seeing his growth, relationships w everyone like dazai's mentorship and akutagawa's rivalry :) big atsushi fan!!!
i'm kind of just a dazai obsessed freak when it comes to bsd so i don't write for him often but fear not!!!! atsushi is perfect and i am not nor will i ever be an atsushi hater
for relationship-esque thoughts (since that's my blog lol) i think of atsushi as a really caring partner!!! he obviously prioritizes communication and is in touch with his emotions :) he's super sensitive and protective and also would be really cozy to cuddle up to at night since he's just a big cat lol
he's also the perfect boyfriend to bring around your family like he's quiet and reserved but also totally enamored with you and willing to fight for your honor ??? he's perfect i'm told! just look at him being a big bro to kyouka like he's a family man 100%
i think any potential angst or butting heads would come from him sometimes being a doormat when he doesn't mean to? but even that's a stretch bc he easily chews out dazai and akutagawa when the time calls for it
tl;dr he's perfect that's my pet cat i keep on hand to lie at the end of my bed and warm my feet at night

I have seen so many people misconstrue this part of Atsushiβs journey and not quite grasp this scene for what it really is. Itβs great to see someone break it down a bit.
i want to talk about the moment that both made me fall in love with atsushi nakajima as a character, and which made me realize that I was probably going to get obsessed with BSD.
specifically, it was this moment.
words can not describe how important this moment was to me, and how vital this is to both atsushi as a character and his relationship with dazai as a whole.
as someone who is currently living with my abusive parents, this was something that resonated with me a lot β oftentimes, media when attempting to portray abuse (specifically parental abuse) and victims of abuse, does 1 out of 2 things:
1. Tries to justify the abuse and protect the parents β having the kids be okay with the treatment they recieved.
2. Has the kids utterly despise their parents with no shred of good feelings.
And whilst, sure, both of these can happen β and I'm sure there are victims who actually feel like this β it's not the most common response.
Speaking from my own experience β I don't know how to feel about my parents. If they died, I wouldn't know what face to make. I hate them more than anyone else, but at the same time, I grew up with them. I hate them, but I also love them. If they died, I don't know how I'd feel about it. And we get to see Atsushi having that exact breakdown β the elation over the person you hate dying, versus the grief and frustration and confusion. Abuse isn't simple, and feelings aren't simply β your abuser dying isn't something that's clean cut, it comes with a million different conflicting confusing emotions.
And the fact that Atsushi is allowed to have these feelings, is allowed to hate the headmaster, is allowed to grieve without forgiveness, is so important. BSD doesn't try to justify his abuse β it's okay to mourn someone that hurt you even if you don't like them. Their death β or their intentions β don't make forgiveness a necessity.
And even moreso, the fact that he gets explicitly told that regardless of the fact that that abuse was what molded him into the person he is today and has helped him survive, and the fact that the headmaster had good intentions, it was bad and unforgivable, is extremely important.
dazai not forcing atsushi to feel a certain way about his abuser, and encouraging him to mourn without forgiveness and to actually feel, is an incredibly important moment β i doubt that i'm only speaking for myself here when i say that when dealing with these subject matters, these are the types of things we'd like to hear.
the fact that dazai is the character telling atsushi this isn't lost on me, either β considering that earlier on this chapter, he sent ryuunosuke to tell atsushi about the headmaster, and they had this interaction:
everything about this is so fascinating and well written β from atsushi having an extremely realistic breakdown over the death of his abuser, to dazai telling him that he has zero obligation for forgiveness β and the implications that he's aware that what he's done to ryuunosuke is wrong regardless of intentions, is fascinating.
to me, atsushi nakajima has always felt human in a way most protagonists don't β his trauma impacts him, he has complex messy feelings that can't be easily resolved. it's his choice what to do with his emotions, and all others can do is give advice, and let him figure out how to deal with them.
atsushi nakajima crying over the man who simultaneously raised him and made his life a living hell is accurate in a way that almost hurts.
(slightly unrelated, but i sure was accurate with this prediction from a month ago, huh!)
Atsushi's diary:
"Dazai-san was telling me I can grow shrimp out of shrimp's tail by planting them. What kind of FOOL he thinks I am, what kind of idiot will believe that at this age? Kunikida-san told me I did nice work today, it made me feel so good that I almost cried. I think I have abandonment issues. Last night, I went to Junichiro-kun's house to return him a bag he lent me, and I heard some weird noises from his house. Note to self- do not go to Tanizaki household alone. Kyouka-chan gets cold really easily, I want to buy her a big fluffy blanket but my savings are running low. Kenji-kun told me he'll give me farm fresh vegetables every two days, that'll save some money, but I do not want to bother him with my problems. Something weird happened today, Yosano-san pulled me aside during lunch, she told me that she is worried about my health. She's always worried about people's health, she is so kind. "You should rely on people more, Atsushi. We all are here for you. It is not good for your well being if you worry about every single thing all by yourself". Yosano-san is a doctor, she knows what she is talking about. But she doesn't know me. Truly. I know myself. I have always been a burden on people. I want to take care of myself now, and of Kyouka-chan. There are so many nice people in the world, I can never be compared to them, I just do whatever I can.
Tomorrow I am going on a mission with Ranpo-san. This is the only time I am not scared. Ranpo-san is childish but he is so reliable"

Sskk is one of the most emotional rivalries/ships I have ever seen. It is a relationship that actually hits the heart. Skk is iconic. Kyoukenji is cute. Fyolai is poetic. HiguGin is heartwarming. But sskk?
Sskk is deeper than all these dynamics. The more you get into it the more parallels you see, the more symbolism you see. The things they say to each other both stings at times and also makes you cry.
Akutagawa is both at his best and worst whenever he is around Atsushi. And the more the story goes on the less bitter he becomes.
Atsushi despises Akutagawa but he still works with him, because working with Akutagawa makes him more secure, feel as if someone's got his back.
"Don't worry, go you fool"
"That's why Dazai-san left you"
"Just the two of us?"
"Do we need more?"
Akutagawa and Atsushi support and help each other. They work as a team. Putting their differences apart
Because they are quite similar, looking for one thing; reassurance and praise
They have had difficult childhoods with no parental guidance and they grew up to be very different in terms of personality because of their unique circumstances.
All of these emotions. All of this pain in them. That keeps them separate but it also brings them together. Because that's the thing that they both understand. What's it like to have nothing. And they fight because they just want to be a part of something.
And maybe in one universe where Dazai never brought them together, they might be the best of friends like they were always supposed to.
It doesn't matter how their relationship is, soulmates will always find each other.
After all the only person Akutagawa has smiled at besides his sister-------is Atsushi
People thinking Atsushi is just a cute lil soft boy are so WRONG.
Atsushi is one of the best executed C-PTSD protagonists who are not just "kind" because they are the MC.
Atsushi is sassy, he is mean and says things like they are, even to his own mentor Dazai, he is not afraid of saying bad things. He doesn't hold back on his words. And he can be quite quick when it comes to using sass ("are you a landmower?" "Why are you dressed like a half-finished mummy, Dazai-san" "Akutagawa, fancy a cup of tea?" "That's why Dazai-san left you")
He's not just nice. He thinks he should be nice and kind because that's what someone like him should be like. Atsushi has such a low self esteem that he NEEDS to show kindness to everyone because he thinks just like he got a second chance at life, everyone else deserves it too.
That's why he saved Kyouka and Lucy, he recognised that want for bettering themselves in them. He wanted them to get a second chance like he did. Because to him, people are not good or bad, but they have the ability to change no matter how far they have gone.
This is why Atsushi is the only one who can recognise and understand Dazai's true personality. Whenever Dazai says something self depreciating Atsushi ALWAYS corrects him. In Dead Apple when Dazai is visiting Oda's grave, Atsushi understands whoever this person was, they were very dear to Dazai. At the end of Dead Apple when Dazai says he thinks he's not a good person, Atsushi tells him he has never thought of Dazai not being a good person. Atsushi knows Dazai was in the Port Mafia, but he STILL confirms he sees Dazai as a good person regardless of his past. Because Atsushi believes in second chances, and HE gave the second chance to Dazai that Oda must have wanted Dazai to get, even if the ADA accepted Dazai, no one has ever reassured him being a good person before. (Also in BSD wan, when Dazai says "I want to go out beautifully" during the fireworks scene, in the end-credits Atsushi sits near the river the entire day because he was sad that Dazai was suicidal. And in BSD mayoi, Dazai makes a snowman of Atsushi along with Oda, Ango and Chuuya, showing how much he adored Atsushi)
It's the same with Akutagawa; Atsushi doesn't understand why Akutagawa hates him and he's mean to Akutagawa at times but it never crossed a line. Akutagawa had done so many bad things to Atsushi but at the end they still worked together. Because Dazai understood the only person who will make Akutagawa use his powers to "protect" instead of "attack" is Atsushi. During the ending fight in S3, Akutagawa makes an armour for Atsushi as they combine their powers. And in the end credit scene of S5, we see Akutagawa protecting Atsushi AGAIN. This time Akutagawa isn't wearing the same coat Dazai gave him and for the first time shows true loyalty to Atsushi. ("Just the two of us?" "Do we need more?" *SCREAMS*)
Atsushi's relationship with the headmaster of the orphanage shows how much the trauma affected him as a child. When he can't forgive the headmaster at his death, he hates himself for not being able to give a second chance. And that's when Dazai steps in and tells him, "we cry when our father dies" something Atsushi really needs to hear and he finally cries.
Atsushi reassures Dazai all the time and Dazai snaps Atsushi out of his self depreciation all the time. Their solidarity throughout the story, shows why that day when Dazai chose Atsushi for the ADA; he recognised not Atsushi's powerful ability but his true ability in choosing to believe in people when no one else can.
The fact Chuuya calls Akutagawa "my boy Akutagawa" is not only sweet on his part but also SALTY towards Dazai?
Like Chuuya saw this kid getting treated like that by Dazai and decided "no no no, HE'S MINE"
The background friendship of Akutagawa and Chuuya will always be heartwarming to me. And this is completely in character for Chuuya, he has shown affection to Kenji, Elise and Q (in the manga, anthology, official arts, etc.)
Sure Atsushi can be Dazai's favourite, but Akutagawa is Chuuya's, always.

IMAGINING AKUTAGAWA WITH ATTACHMENT ISSUES AFTER ATSUSHI DIED IN FRONT OF HIM (or vice versa)
God I know they suck at actually communicating their feelings with words and instead die for each other, but I can't get the possibility of Akutagawa being majorly effected by Atsushi's death enough to where he can't bear to leave Atsushi alone, out of my head
(side note: I think Akutagawa should join the Agency. We already know from beast he'd make a pretty decent detective)
I know Akutagawa's terrified of losing Atsushi. And Atsushi had to die to save him for him to even realize that π Asagiri you wizard I love how you write Sskk's relationship
But like, just imagine an Akutagawa trailing Atsushi around like a lost dog (one could almost say...a stray dog) on his days off or Akutagawa constantly checks up on him and calls him or just like small little, caring things like that. Akutagawa with the realization of how much Atsushi means to him

Asagiri is most likely going to do what none of us expects with however he approaches the sskk reunion, but oh my goodness every new chapter that drops changes my ideas for how it'll unfold
I wonder if they'll talk. If they'll hug. They should probably hug. And talk. They really need to talk atp
And you know they're going to argue. But not a real argument, the kind of sskk argument that they only do to talk about their actual problems
Ohhhh there's just so many layers to sskk and I don't know if I can pluck them all apart. And right now I'm really just wondering about the what ifs of their changed relationship
(I'm absolutely PINING for a chance of Atsushi asking "do you hate me?" which makes Akutagawa have to answer with his current/future character growth)

Omggg that's a tough one
I love a lot of the characters but if I had to pick just one, I'd say Akutagawa. He's been my favorite for like, ever, and he's just so amazing
He can be blunt and cold and rude but also he's written so well with his bloodlust and struggles and how he's still not purely evil in the end. I love everything about him π
My other favorites are definitely Atsushi (he's so sassy and strong but also a cinnamon roll like cmon he's perfect, I love him), Adam (the most underrated bean is existence, I would die for Adam), Nikolai (he's so crazy and wild, yet somber, idk I just love his whole vibe as a character), Dazai (I know how basic this is but I will never not love Dazai, he's such a pivotal and deep character, his angst turns me into a waterfall), Chuuya (who doesn't love Chuuya π he's loyal and strong and such a fun and emotional character aaa I love him), Higuchi (she's definitely one of my comfort characters, I love her in Wan! bc she adds a great lighthearted touch to everything), Kyouka (she's so underrated, she's so adorable and resilient and honestly I love how she was written) and Bram (he's so stoic and literal, I just love him. I totally didn't cry when he died. I'm not crying you're crying)

Atsushi must have thought about Akutagawa's death over and over and over to remember the words he said to Atsushi right before being killed by Fukuchi, aND THEN HE SAID THOSE FINAL WORDS BACK AT AKUTAGAWA

Akutagawa didn't even remember who Atsushi was and what made him remember was Atsushi mirroring the sacrifice he made back on that ship and then right as he recollects who Atsushi is he DIES. Talk about an emotional rollercoaster
Also can we talk we talk about how Akutagawa screamed "Jinko/weretiger". The amount of worry and fear on his face is so evident and insane (thank you Harukawa for more of your gorgeous art). He CARES about Atsushi. I gotta sit down

Technically a redraw of an official beast art that Harukawa did (you can find it in the beast light novel) but I altered it by kinda a lot
I'm fond of drawing Bsd characters in my style but for this specific art I thought it'd look better if I leaned more into Harukawa's original style<3 you can still see bits of my style peeking through lol
Atsushi's beast design though UGH IT'S SO GOOD
And yes the angel wings are supposed to look messy, in a contrast to how put together Atsushi himself looks, his white angel wings/his morals on the inside are messy and not as clean :D
