hey so 21-92% of autistic people who menstruate also have pmdd, and I think more people need to know of that (coming from an autistic transguy who also has pmdd, and had no idea of this until their then undiagnosed pmdd drove them to a breaking point)

Anti-vaxxer extremist RFK Jr, the US Health Secretary, is now actively trying to collect medical records of folks on the autism spectrum. First, he used dehumanizing and infantilizating language to insist people with autism won't 'pay taxes and live a 'normal life' which we all know is ableist bullshit and is literally a precursor to genocide. This man is a monster.
I think the autism spectrum should look like a spider web that way everyone has their own little individual spot on it
I don't like the line because I see it and think it's the autismometer
As an autistic, same. All us neurodivergents should travel in packs to relieve this societal tension. Let people be weird and/or nontypical! We’re not hurting anyone by being different from the average. <3
half of my time spent in public spaces consists of me wondering if i’m acting normal enough
While high-functioning may appear more “normal” to neurotypical people, in my experience, it takes a lot of hard work to appear that way. Hence the term “masking.” You’re essentially wearing a mask to appear more neurotypical to the people around you, but there’s a lot of work going on behind the scenes to help keep the facade up, and it is super tiring for the people doing it. I may be able to keep a bubbly and open presence at a party, but I know for dang sure I’m going to lock myself in a quiet room when I return home so I can decompress and process.
Oh yes, this is a really helpful guide. It can also be helpful to non-autistics as well! Some symptoms of ASD can also cross over to other conditions like PTSD and ADHD. It’s important to recognize your limits and know when you need to step away!
Some things that tip me off when I’m getting overloaded are on this list, but disassociation and the freeze response can also be reactions of overload too. So can becoming mono-syllabic or non-verbal.
Another important thing: don’t belittle yourself for needing a break! Everyone needs one from time to time, even neurotypicals. It’s nothing to be ashamed of. If anything, knowing how to take time for yourself in stressful situations is a sign of good boundaries and good mental health! I wish more parents taught this stuff to their kids; so many meltdowns could have been avoided.
Overload is basically the point where our Autistic brains can no longer handle input. It's not a meltdown or shutdown, but more of a mental checkout. Frequent overloads, however, can lead to meltdowns or shutdowns.
It's important not to assume that we will have overload only in loud or busy environments. Autistic brains often process information at a much slower pace than a NT brain, so even quiet environments can cause overload if something triggers it.
Note: not every autistic experience is the same and these are general guidelines only.
Loss of facial expression or difficulties in making facial expressions. May start to exaggerate facial expressions, too, as they are struggling to mask.
Staring off into space, easily distracted, struggling to pay attention etc.
Increased stimming.
Difficulties in speaking such as stuttering, forgetting words, mixing up sounds, or difficulty speaking at all.
May try to cover their ears, eyes etc to sensory input.
Increased sensitivities and may include new or unique sensitivities.
Headaches or feeling physically sick such as sweating, stomach ache etc.
Fellow Autistics: what signs would you like for others to know?
Oh yeah, for sure. Especially with conditions like Autism.
It’s often hereditary—and chances are that if you have it, a family member has it too. High-functioning ASD can often slip under the radar, and a lot of people get diagnosed later in life because of that.
The funny thing about figuring out youre neurodivergent is looking through your family and starting to notice youre definitely not the only one
Yk when you're having a conversation and it's like... too much stuff is going on, options, tasks, plans, etc, and it gets too overwhelming, but you can't do anything about it bc then you're being "rude". Like, I'm just overstimulated. Like, they claim to want to help me, but the moment it becomes annoying they just give up completely.
Personally, I prefer not to use labels. But I'm fine with others using it for themselves and stuff.
Edit: Yk after some thinking I feel like yeah things like support labels are deffo useful when they are not being used to put some people's needs below others - that was the main reason why I didn't like it, but I think if used well instead of as "well you're low-support so you should be able to do that", they are actually good tools.
Solve Autism? Fuck you, there is nothing wrong with being autistic! Sure, I may not like being autistic all the time, but it is what makes me...well, ME. So yeah, Mr. Musk, go sit on a cactus, step on Legos, and sneeze so hard you shit your pants.
Oh so he’s doing eugenics now
Alright, I know April’s almost over but as it is still Autism Acceptance Month, I wanted to talk a little about it. Just wanted to share what being autistic is like for me and some of my special interests.
I was diagnosed with ASD and ADHD when I was 8 years old. Back then, I was technically diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome but that was merged into ASD in 2011 so I’ll just refer to it as ASD. Anyway, I didn’t really know what that meant until I was seventeen and actually did some research. Learning that a bunch of my behaviors and certain feelings I had were actually because I was autistic was…. I don’t know, relieving? Things started to make more sense. Before this point, all I knew was that I didn’t understand social cues and I was very specific about what I liked and disliked. It did not help that I was also on ADHD medication that exacerbated the negative parts of autism. Since that day, I’ve learned so much more about myself and I learn new things about autism everyday. I’m not angry or upset that I’m autistic. I was (and still kinda am) mad at the people who didn’t explain it to me properly when I was younger but that’s beside the point. I’ve learned to accept it and I’m a lot happier because of it. I don’t need people to be aware of me. I just need people to accept me.
Okay, that was a lot. Hmm. Anyway, SPECIAL INTERESTS, LET’S GO!!!! 😃
My primary special interests are manga, anime, and video games. And within those special interests are even MORE special interests. For example, some of the manga I have a huge interest in include Bleach, One Piece, Fullmetal Alchemist and Jujutsu Kaisen. There’s a lot more but there are too many list. On the flip side, the anime I like differs slightly. I don’t always like anime adaptations of manga I like. For example, I really don’t care for either the Bleach or One Piece adaptations (Bleach TYBW is the exception). There are certain scenes from each that I really enjoy watching and they both have great soundtracks and great voice acting in both the original Japanese and the english dubs, but weird choices that differ from the source material and huge pacing issues make them hard for me to watch. On the other hand, there are certain adaptations that I prefer to the source material, such as Demon Slayer or Mob Psycho 100. These two in particular take the original material and enhance it greatly. What’s more, there are certain series where I really like both the original manga and the anime (Chainsaw Man and Jujutsu Kaisen to name a couple). Also, I love original anime, like Space Dandy, Oddtaxi, Gurren Lagaan, Appare Ranman, and Vivy: Flourite Eyes Song. It’s really cool to see original content in a medium that is primarily adaptations.
Starting a new paragraph for video games. This might be my big special interest. RPGs, Metroidvanias, platformers, action games, puzzle games, party games, etc. I really love video games. Favorite series include but are not limited too: Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Kingdom Hearts, Pokémon, and Xenoblade Chronicles. In case you couldn’t tell, I’m a big Nintendo person. If I had to pick a genre, I’d say RPGs are my favorite, whether they are turned based or action oriented. My top three favorite games of all time are Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and Kingdom Hearts II. Favorite Pokémon generation is three though Scarlet is my current favorite game. I could go on about how I love different combat and level up systems in different games, how I love that the sidequests in the Xenoblade games add to the worldbuilding and give them so much depth, how I love watching videos analyzing background lore in games like Hollow Knight or Breath of the Wild or videos going into detail about how dark series like Kirby or Splatoon are, or how even though the story is insanely stupid I adore Kingdom Hearts for how sincere it is. But I feel like this has gone a bit longer than I originally intended.
Anyway, a couple of notes really quick about Autism Acceptance Month and autism in general:
Don’t support Autism Speaks. They are a hate group focused on trying to “cure” autism.
Don’t use the puzzle piece when talking about autism. It is ableist. Use either the gold infinity symbol for autism or the rainbow infinity symbol for neurodiversity.
Vaccinations don’t cause autism. Whoever came up with that can burn in hell.
I think that’s everything. If whoever is reading this is autistic, I hope you had a great Autism Acceptance Month.
Hello! I'm Will! I know I just did an introduction post a week ago but this will be slightly different. This post will have links! :D Anyway, I'm a huge weeb with ASD and ADHD who also streams on Twitch occasionally. What do I stream, you might ask? Whatever I want! Mainly games that I really like, such as Mario, Zelda, and Pokémon to name a few. Big Nintendo person in case you couldn't tell. I also really enjoy reading manga and watching anime. Some of my favorites include Bleach, One Piece, Jujutsu Kaisen, Oddtaxi, Space Dandy, Chainsaw Man, Komi Can't Communicate, Laid-Back Camp and so much more! If you are curious about where I might talk about these things aside from here, then you're in luck! You can find links to all of my social media and my Twitch channel here at https://linktr.ee/stillwill76. I've been on a stream hiatus for a few months now but I'm gonna be coming back on the 29th of November. I'll post more about that soon. I said this before but I hope I can make some new friends here!
Okay, I've had this account for several months now and I'm realizing that I never really introduced myself. So that's what this is.
Hi! I'm Getsu! I'm really shy! And I love anime, manga, and video games! I'm a big Nintendo person and I read a lot of shonen manga. As for anime, I like a lot of different kinds. Action, battle, slice of life, comedy, thriller, etc. I'll go into specifics here in a sec. I'm 29 years old, married, and have both Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD. I made this account intially because I was getting back into Bleach but I realized that I can focus on all of my special interests in a much more organized way than Twitter, which is nice. :D So this will be an amalgam of things I like. YAY! If anyone is curious about my Twitter, mutuals can DM me. I use my real name there so yeah. Though, considering Twitter might crash and burn I may just change my user name here. We'll see. Uh, what else? Oh, right! Specifics!
Anime/manga I really like: One Piece, Bleach, Mob Psycho 100, Jujutsu Kaisen, Komi Can't Communicate, Oddtaxi, Chainsaw Man, Haikyuu!, Kuroko's Basketball, Spy x Family, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Fullmetal Alchemist, Demon Slayer, Dr. Stone, Laid-Back Camp and so much more!
New manga I that I really like that I always recommend: Akane-Banashi, Sakamoto Days, Blue Box, Mission: Yozakura Family, Kaiju No. 8, and Mashle: Magic & Muscles.
VIDEO GAMES: Mario, Zelda, Kingdom Hearts, Kirby, Pokémon, Super Smash Bros., Xenoblade Chronicles, and Splatoon for specific games. As for genres: RPG's, JRPG's, platformers, metroidvanias, action games (ex: Devil May Cry, Bayonetta), puzzle games, big open exploration stuff, heavy narrative driven games (ex: Bioshock, Edith Finch), arcade style games, comfy games, and party games (Mario Party, Mario Kart, Jackbox).
I actually used to stream on Twitch regularly. I've been on hiatus from that since August. I plan to come back the week after Thanksgiving so I might change my user name around then. Just a heads up. Okay, I think that's everything. Sorry if this got kinda rambly. I hope that I can share my love for my interests and maybe meet some new friends! If you read this far, thanks!
EDIT: Changing my name because Twitter is dying. Will fix in the morning.
