Come back
(ProHeroAU!Deku x Reader)
Summary: Looking back on what you two used to be and how you are now, you can't help but feel sorrowful.
Warning: Angst, depressive thoughts, toxic relationship, toxic situation, cussing, depression, heart break, aged up characters,
We used to be Best Friends.
We used to be Lovers.
We used to be Husband and Wife.
What are we now?
Two people who exist beside eachother.
How could you have known your life would turn out like this? Wishing your husband would come home. Wishing your husband wouldn't ignore you. When had it all started? A few months ago? After he'd gotten what he always wanted.
Number 1 Pro Hero, Deku.
He was more smug, walked like no one could touch him.
You celebrated like you did everything in your lives together since 3rd year. A nice dinner together followed by passionate love making. Whispering sweet nothings and promises to eachother. Holding eachother close until sunrise, nothing but love and content between your hearts and souls.
But you soon noticed how he'd come home later, you already be asleep and missing his warmth that lulled you to sleep naturally. Leaving sooner, you waking up with a small warm spot where he once laid, even if it was only for a short few hours. Reply less on the phone, never responding or picking up, sending you straight to voice-mail. Acting like a phantom of the man who you once loved, who'd always call you, who always snuggled close when the moon rose high in the sky and until the sun replaced it.
Your home that was once vibrant with colors and life, now seemed dull and gray. The pictures that hung on the walls of memories once shared now seemed bittersweet. A constant nagging of what you once had and had lost too soon. Of course you'd beg Izuku to go to out with you, come home early, have dinner together. Or even just hug once. Reignite the hope and love you were so desperately clinging to.
Your friends and family could see it too. The way you no longer smiled the way you used to, no energy to give them but a weak half assed smile that left them all heartbroken. You were once sunshine that broke through the clouds and rain no matter what, always finding the best in every situation. Now you sobbed silently as you watched your husband on TV who smiled without a care in the world, no worries to hold him back. Yet you knew once he came home that smile wouldn't be for you. The one who such by him, supported him, held him when it all became too much as some points for you both to bear. You pushed through, telling him to lay it on your shoulders, that you could carry the weight for both of you. Now, it seemed he'd abandoned everything and no longer sought to reclaim it.
You couldn't help but twist your engagement and wedding rings around your finger. Heart pounding so fast and deep you felt like you almost couldn't breathe. You wanted it all to end. You were tired of trying and getting nowhere. Trying to put forth the effort you'd promised eachother back then when you were dressed in white and he in a suit.
'We'll always be there for one another. Never apart or forgotten'
You scoffed, tears rolling down your face as you brought your sleeve up to clean your eyes but the tears just kept flowing. Through blurry eyes you picked up your phone, re reading the messages you'd sent to him, all left on read.
'I hope you have an amazing day! I love you!'
'What time will you be home? I'm making your favorite to celebrate another successful assignment'
'I need to talk to you'
'Please answer the phone'
'Izuku.... please'
'I miss us'
You coughed, throat constricting as you sobbed, hands over your mouth to muffle the screams as you let your frustration and sadness out. Throwing your phone across the room, it shattered with a BANG as it hit one of the pictures, knocking it off the wall.
You stood and walked over, careful of the broken glass. Bending down you saw it was of when you and Izuku attended a holiday party with your friends only about a year ago. You dressed in a cute Santa outfit that showed off your body, and him in a simple Santa hat. You two gazed at eachother with such love though, Mina having snapped the picture when you were caught under the mistletoe. Turning away from the picture was hard. You didn't feel like being mocked knowing you were once happy.
The door opening suddenly made you jump up, heart racing as your lips quivered. Had he finally come home to be with you? Did you finally get through to him?
He truged through the door, shaking off his coat and setting his briefcase down as he took off his shoes. You felt a warmth spread through your body as you scurried over, a small smile making its way to your lips.
"Welcome home~" you chirped, though he only glanced at you. "Yeah thanks," he mumbled, shuffling past you and into the kitchen. "Why is the picture frame broken? Whatever, just throw it out." He decided, his voice echoing across the once again gray household as you stared after him in bewilderment. The first time you've properly seen eachother in weeks it seems, and he just brushed you off.
Gaining some courage you followed him where he scowled into the fridge, "Izuku, I was wondering-" You were cut off by him slamming the fridge shut as he turned to you sharply, "Why is there no food in this house!? All you do all day is sit around. The least you can do is make sure I'm fed when I come home. I expect it. You're married to the Number One Hero, I expect better or I'll find better," he scolded you like a child, his large frame towering over yours as you felt tears prick your waterline as you stared at him hurt and shocked. "I..I" you couldn't even speak you were so distraught. Had it really come down to this? "Whatever, I'm going to bed," he scoffed, grabbing some fruit off the table and left you standing there staring after him.
The second the door shut you slowly sank to your knees, fingers clenching your shirt in pain as you literally felt your heart breaking. Shaking and sputtering as tears flowed from your eyes, sniffling as you could barely breathe.
"Please..let this be a dream," you rasped, the light glinting off your rings that caught your attention. You stared at them. What was the use of promises and whispers of forever when the one who was supposed to share them with you no longer cared? What was the purpose of love when it'd been forever since any act of love or kindness was shown to you from your own husband? Things would never been the same. They couldn't be. Not after the hurt and unknowing he'd put you through.
Trembling as you took off your rings, you clenched them right and bright the fist to your lips. Whispering an apology to yourself, you shouldn't have let this happen. Shouldn't have let it carry on so long.
Standing you walked down the hall to the bedroom you shared with Izuku. A room that was a safe haven, now a dungeon where your worst fears and ugly truths had manifested into reality. Opening the door you were greeted with the sight of Izuku in his pajamas now, hair damp as he'd just gotten out of the shower.
"Izuku," you called, voice still raspy from crying. "What," he turned his gaze into your figure, the only thing you could do was move closer. It felt like sharp needles with every step you took, the weight of that of an Elephan. Holding your hand out, you unfurled your fingers to present your rings. "What are you doing?' He questioned, his eyebrows netted in confusion and annoyance .
Taking in a deep breath, you uttered one line, "Letting go," and that caught his attention. "What the hell are you getting at? Let go of what? There's nothing wrong," you shook your head at his statement. Reaching for his hand, you gently placed the rings inside. "I need to let go of you. I need to let go of this loveless marriage," you smiled weakly, wincing as he lashed out again.
"LOVELESS MARRIAGE!? IN WHAT SENSE DOES THAT MAKE!" You stared at him, a neutral look as you stared him down with a slight glare making him wince back.
"When was the last time we made love? The last time we cuddled or ate together. How long has it been since we simply enjoyed eachother sleeping next to one another?" You clenched your fists to your side, teeth gritted as your frustration came out, "Even the last time you uttered I Love You too me!' You yelled at him, your (e/c) eyes full of tears and pain made eye contact with his own that were blown wide in shock. "Ever since you've gotten that number one spot no one is good enough for you! You're never home! I supported you through it all and yet you pushed me to the side like I didn't matter! I'm sick and tired of trying my best to get beaten down, tired of waiting for a man who no longer wants to be with me or love me," you sobbed, lips quivering as you said your piece.
"(Y-Y/N)," he muttered, reaching out a hand as you flinched away, moving swiftly toward your closet where you grabbed a bag and stuffed important items in them quickly. "W-wait we can talk about this," Izuku stuttered, his whole world crashing down. "There's nothing to talk about, goodbye Izuku, I hope you get everything you ever wanted," you slammed the door shut, leaving Izuku in a world of silence as you left the house. Left his heart.
He felt tears rise into his eyes as he tried to recant the last time it'd been just you two together, but he couldn't think of anything. No recent dinners. No recent cuddles. Hell he couldn't even remeber the last time he spoke to you, actually spoke and didn't yell like he'd done in the kitchen moments before. He whimpered and brought your rings to his mouth like you'd done, his strength suddenly gone as he gave out on the bed, his eyes staring at the ceiling as it all sunk in. "I'm not ready to let go," he cried, tears flowing down his cheeks and onto the blankets as his lips quivered,
"Please come back"

I DONT NEED THESE TEARS
pairing: adult!Aoânung x fem!metkayina naâvi reader
contains: angst with underlying bittersweet fluff, slight infidelity, no smut but a very brief, vague rehashing of events wc: 3,124
âHonestly Iâm better as your boy, Iâd be kinda shitty as ya man, letâs go back to only being friends. Iâm sorry girl I hope you understand itâs just, I donât wanna fall in love.â - KYLE
You and Aoânung were written in the stars. Twin flames. A love so fierce among two souls that itâd be impractical to think you could come out unscathed. Like night and day, never one without the other, but never meant to be together.
He never intended to hurt you, really, he didnât. But somewhere in all the gold that glittered and the feeling of something fresh and exciting, he simply lost sight and forgot what he really wanted.
Love and Aoânung were two words that never should have been in the same sentence. You wished you had listened to those around you, to those who noticed the two of you growing far too close for the relationship to remain platonic.
You wished you had listened to those who recognized the familiar gleam heâd get in his eyes when he wanted something he knew he wasnât supposed to have; to those who warned that he would break you into a million pieces like he did with the others. But what you felt in your heart and saw with your own two eyes, you couldnât deny. He was different with you, you swear he was.
A friend was what you called each other. Bestfriends. Growing up in Awaâatlu, you were stuck to his side like glue as a child, always begging to go hunting with him and his friends. You wanted to go everywhere he went, do everything he did. Disgruntled and annoyed at first, a little Aoânung had eventually taken a liking to you, much to his own surprise. And from then on, your presence in each otherâs lives was as normal as breathing.
And somewhere along the line, Aoânung had become gentle with you, contrary to his usual irreverent personality. He stopped treating you like you were just another one of his knuckle-headed friends, but instead something more than that. He found himself staring at you longer than he used to; captivated by the details about your features or personality that he never cared to relish on in the past.
The way your face would light up every time you heard his voice call for you. How youâd beam when you sat with him on the beach and raved about your day. Heâd simply watch you, humming in response every now and then to let you know he was listening, on his face a smile so love-sickeningly drenched in admiration while you gesticulated animatedly.
He would have puked had someone held a mirror up to him to see his own besotted expression, but he loved how excited you were to talk to him about the smallest of things. How even while heâs studied the distinct map your starred freckles project along your body over and over again, for some reason, he still finds himself getting lost in them.
He doesnât want to fall in love.
Itâs what he tells himself every time a mention of your name has his ears perking attentively, listening in on the conversation regarding his newfound fascination. Every time a waft of your scent in the salt-laced breeze sends his mind reeling with thoughts he canât seem to mute. But itâs too late.
Hell, how couldnât he have fallen for you? Youâre always perched on the dock outside his mauri before eclipse, swinging your legs as you patiently await his return from training so the two of you can spend some time alone before dinner.
Genuinely happy to see him regardless of how grumpy he can be, because you like him for him. And youâre completely unaware of how his mind battles with his heart as he admires you from afar, wondering how heâd let himself tumble face first into an irreversible fondness for you.
He doesnât want to fall in love, but one canât stop the inevitable.
Snarky teasing turned into transient observations that scarily resembled compliments. Chummy roughhousing morphed to playful touches to the most ticklish parts of you, just so he could hear your pretty laugh cascade through his ears like his own songcord. He had half the mind to add a bead, just for you.
And for a while, he felt it too, honestly he did. But Aoânung wasnât familiar with love, had pushed the thought of it away for so long that now he had no idea how it was supposed to happen. The things you were and werenât supposed to do. He never knew that the fluttering feeling of butterflies swarming in his stomach were good, that he shouldnât run from them, but embrace them.
Sure heâd grown up watching his parents display their affection to one another; grown up hearing the stories of an adamant, smitten Tonowari pining after a hard-to-get Ronal, despite her apparent aloofness. How he fell first and she fell even harder. But he never actually thought he would end up head over heels for a girl. It was usually the other way around, girls pining over him while he let the attention boost his ego.
He was a no strings kind of guyâ utterly terrified by the thought of being responsible for breaking a girlâs heart. Breaking your heart, like he knew he would because he fucks everything up and he wanted no parts of it.
But heâs conflicted. Deep down he does want what his parents have. Someone to call his own, someone to come home to. Someone who means more than a stupid hookup that would leave him regretting his decision afterwards and wondering why the hell he went through with it. But like always with the metkayina boy, pride trumps what his heart already knows.
Heâs well aware that itâs too good to be true. The thought that he could ever experience what it truly means to be happy, by letting himself be loved by you, is all that it will ever be. A thought. An unattainable aspiration. He knows youâre too good for him. Compassionate, thoughtful, kind. Everything heâll never be, coupled with a heart much too pure to be polluted by his indecision.
But maybe, just maybe he could enjoy the reverie while it lingered, and pretend like he could really have you all to himself. Just for one night. Selfishly disregarding his issues with commitment, all he could think about while he laid in bed was how badly he wanted to see you, how badly he wanted to be with you.
Leading you on was the last thing on his mind that late night heâd snuck out from his Mauri and to yours, determinedly pitching small shells heâd collected on the way there between the flowing tulle curtains of your open window to get your attention.
And for some reason you couldnât sleep, as if that was fateâs way of setting the two of you up for failure from the beginning. Youâd already spent an hour staring up at the intricate weaving of your Mauriâs roof, wishing your eyelids would hurry up and become weighted, when the small disruption of something clattering against the floorboards had you sitting up almost instantly.
You smiled keenly, already having an idea of who it was. He told you heâd come for you later, sometime after eclipse, and he always kept his promises. At least, you thought he did.
The both of you waded by the shore beneath the light of the moon, legs brushing against the other from the effort of treading once you swam further out. Childishly splashing the other with small waves of cool, salty water and trying your best to keep your laughter quiet; the village long asleep but your hearts awake.
It was when he bundled you closer, when strong arms lagged through the calm waters to wind around your waist and pull you into him. That, was when you knew nothing would be the same.
You should have pulled away, should have called it a night before things could progress, like the voice in the back of your head was telling you to do. But just like always, those ocean eyes held you in a trance, a smug grin on his face in response to how deeply you blushed and it only made matters worse.
You wonder now if he knew what he was doing when he brought a hand up to caress your dampened cheek, his gaze undeniably tender when he told you heâd always thought you were the most beautiful girl heâd ever seen.
You see now that you were stupid to fall for it. But in that fleeting moment, with your arms around his neck and your hearts beating as one, his lips moving against yours felt so right. It felt like that was where you were always meant to be, in his arms, pressed against the warmth of his skin as he set your soul ablaze.
Youâd spent the rest of the night on the sand, the comfort of your bed long forgotten. He was all you needed. Entangled underneath the moonlight as you let him see so much farther into you than you had with anyone. He kissed broken promises upon your skin, lust-drunken words slurred from his mouth swaddled in the crook of your neck and you canât believe you trusted him.
Your ability to see the good in everyone ultimately played the role in your downfall. You took pride in being someone who went off actions, and not words. Because it had never failed you before, but since then youâve learned to never say never.
Curse your aching heart. You really should have listened when everyone told you to run, that behind all the kind gestures and longing glances and saccharine kisses to the foreheadâ it was all a game to him.
Things werenât official with the two of you but you had planned to change that. Flung so deep into the intensity of your own feelings, everything about the way he treated you let you know that he must have felt the same.
Surely itâd be impossible to do all that the two of you had done with someone and not catch feelings. Itâd be unimaginable to let someone peer so extensively into what makes you you, and somehow not fall in love with them.
âMeet me by the mangroves at noon, our spot.â Youâd murmured between a parting kiss, just the day before, and he canât believe he forgot.
He was enjoying his time with you too much to notice that he let things go on for too long, too busy reveling in the feeling of what it felt like to truly be loved. To be cared for.
He never intended for it to go this far, constantly having to remind himself to break the news to you that he wanted to remain friends, so he wouldnât lose you all together. To let you go before he could do something to hurt you.
Aoânung knew he was in too deep the moment he realized you were the last image playing behind his eyelids when he fell asleep, and the first thing he thought about when he woke up.
The idea of him loving someone so profoundly shocked him to his core, scared him into submitting back into his old habits. He needed to be with someone who couldnât see him, someone who if he were to mess things up, the sight of them in fragments due to his actions wouldnât cause him to endure that same agony. So subconsciously, he did what he always does when he has a good thing going for him. Fuck it up.
The sound of his laughter in the distance carried your feet along the buoyant netting that served as walkway between the homes of your village. A hopeful grin plastered on your face and a freshly woven armband clutched between your hands. A gift from him to you, and though not very traditional for you to give the first courting gift, nothing about your situation was, so you found it more than fitting.
The sight in front of you halted your movements, leaving your mind to try and make sense of the scene before your eyes could confirm what you feared to be true. What everyone had tried to warn you of.
The man who succeeded in making you feel a way no other had, stood a little ways in front of you, with a girl. Her back leaned against the rocks while she batted her lashes and gazed at him as if heâd hung the stars in the sky himself. The same way youâd found yourself doing every time he so much as looked in your direction.
A mere conversation between the two of them would never have been enough to upset you, you liked to think you were more secure than that. But youâd be lying to yourself if you claimed you didnât see the way his hand cradled her cheek, and how his eyes flitted over her features, as if she were the most beautiful girl heâd ever seen.
Your insecurities didnât have much work to do, as it was the words that left his own mouth that confirmed your fears. The same thing he had confessed to youâ all those nights ago when you laid intwined under the starsâ he swore to her. With that same glint in his eye, that same longing look that you were foolish to ever believe would be reserved for you.
A fire surged up the column of your throat and a dreadful weight settled in the pit of your stomach that almost had your knees buckling. Your lips parted to speak, to ask him what the hell he was doing with her when he was supposed to have met you here.
But the words never came, they remained lodged between the confines of your heart-wrenched vocal cords. Your fist tightened around what wouldâve been a lovely moment between the two of you, and the sound of it thumping against the ground, paired with the cloud of sand it brought up in its wake was enough to peel his attention from your giggling contender.
His startled, turned guilt-ridden expression wouldâve rendered comical to you, but the rush of hot tears that bubbled over your waterline and stained your seafoam cheeks were far too impatient to wait for you to get a laugh in.
You staggered back with a denying shake of your head, a string of curses inaudible as you threw your hands up once he made a move to get to you. The girl he had been so enamored with just moments ago conveniently forgotten the second he witnessed your heart fall through your chest.
He called out for you in a panic, hurriedly sifted his hands through pale golden and swiftly scooped the disheveled accessory from the sand before his feet took off.
Aoânung chased you through the village until he was nearly winded. Ignoring your hisses for him to leave you alone and brushing off the harsh shoves you sent to his chest as if they werenât actually starting to hurt.
âPlease, wait!â Another plea for you that went ignored, your ears only filled with the painful ringing of betrayal.
Blinded by the moisture in your eyes, you realized heâd cornered you. Chased you all the way to a secluded clearing behind the palm trees so you would stop running and just talk to him.
A strong hand gripped your forearm, turning you around rougher than intended to meet the frantic look in his eyes. âPlease,â He implored breathlessly and his chest heaved from his efforts just moments earlier. âI never meant for it to go like this.â
You twirled from his grasp and swatted his hand away in the process, your face screwed up with hurt and he watched every conflicted emotion pass through your eyes at once. You didnât even know how you were still standing.
âI gave myself to you!â Your voice wavered as you thrusted an accusatory finger to his chest. His lips moved, but no words left them as he clutched the forgotten gift in his hands. âI canât believe I was so stupid.â You whisked your head away, shielding your face as another round of tears threatened to make themselves known, as if you werenât embarrassed enough.
âIâm- Iâm sorry, I donât know what I was thinking. I-â His head dipped to the side to match his drooping shoulders, and you felt the rough pad of his thumb graze your cheekbone in an attempt to fix what was already broken. âTahni, please, I was going to tell you. I swear-â
âYou did this on purpose, didnât you? Was this all some kind of sick game to you?â You choked out and backed away from his touch with your arms crossed over your chest, suddenly feeling exposed in front of the man who had already seen you so much barer than you stood now.
But with your feelings worn on your sleeves and so obviously unreciprocated, you felt more naked than youâd ever been regardless of the coverings you were wearing. Completely vulnerable in front of him, so naively gullible to think heâd ever put aside his immature desires and feel the same way you did.
âWhat- No! Iâd- Iâd never-â He sputtered an answer vehemently, his expression almost wounded as he immediately denied your claim. âI just, I canât give you what you need. You deserve better than me.â His hands found yours despite your efforts to avoid them, and he quickly realized why you didnât want to be touched.
A stark contrast from your pained stature, the affliction he had caused, your body relaxed the second he touched you and your composure crumbled before him.
Sobs racked through your body and you weakly tugged your hands from his grasp to no avail, your words shaky as you begged for him to let you go. And without another thought he pulled you into his embrace, firmly caging you between the arms that once comforted you.
But they failed to replicate that same feeling, the image of what once was completely tarnished by his own actions. The words that left your lips were enough to make his eyes well with a wetness foreign to him. A deep-seated feeling heâd never forget. Remorse.
âYouâre cruel, Aoânung.â
The sound of your heart shattering drowned out his incessant, anguished apologies and your body slumped in his arms. You let him hold you, allowed your forehead to fall into the dip of his chest as large hands caressed into the curve between your trembly shoulders.
You mindlessly permitted his attempts to console you as you knew you would never let him close to you again. The two of you stood like that for a few minutes, until your weeping reduced to jagged inhales while you struggled to catch your breath.
âDid it mean anything to you at all? Any of it?â You squeaked hopelessly, and the sound of your broken voice sent daggers to the heart you were almost certain he didnât have.
With his chin rested atop your head, his eyes squeezed shut and he exhaled unsteadily before he spoke.
âMore than you know.â

Oh this is so cute đ
Hey there hope i made it here is my Headcannon or it's a story request
Miro x eri's older sister reader you who went the same abuse as eri but harsher because she has the same quirk but she could control it.And then Mirio you saves her and eri, teach them about the outside and Miro couldn't help but fell in love and it up to you
[ Alright, my third request. So I was a little unsure if you meant you wanted headcanons or a story. I was originally going to do headcanons but then I thought...well, I could summarize time in the story and sort of jump to Mirio bringing the reader outside and trying to confess his love. ]
Your heart sped up, this was not right or at least it didn't feel right. The sensation of soft grass underneath you, the kiss of the warm sun on your skin, and the wide open space with the scent of dirt. Yes, you were outside and it was so strange for someone who had spent the majority of their life behind closed doors.
"Mm..." you latched onto your bottom lip, curling your toes into the grass and bringing your legs up to your chest where your arms securely wrapped around them. You laid your chin on the top of your knees, glancing over at Mirio who was currently playing with your little sister, Eri.
A big bright smile was on his face and his laughter mixed with Eri's was an almost foreign sound and the sight of the sunlight bathing him in a golden glow was something that you needed to get used to. Of course, that sun made him look like a God and in a way, he was exactly that to you.
In fact, he was the perfect description of the heroes you remember your mother and father telling you about. Although that was before your little sister accidentally used her quirk to well...turn your father to dust and you suddenly found yourself in the care of Kai Chisaki.
He was a cruel man that had no regard for anyone's well-being and only sought to destroy quirks, finding them to be a disease plaguing the human race. Yet, he found interest in Eri's quirk as well as yours. Why? Because they worked in similar ways only you had more control over your quirk, Eri did not.
You still had nightmares of being strapped to an exam table as he cut your body open several times only to regenerate the flesh and do it all over again. Subjecting you to the same pain over and over again, claiming that it would help him better understand your quirk.
You knew this wasn't true, especially given the fact that there were better, more humane ways to study quirks. But everything about your life changed when Lemillion or Mirio Togata as you later got to know him as came.
Although his sacrifice for protecting Eri and yourself was losing his quirk, and even after visiting him in the hospital he seemed awfully cheery about it. Like having the thing he was born with getting ripped away from him in an instant was okay.
"You know, Deku said something similar. If he could give me a quirk, he would but I don't want one. After all, I'm still a hero even without it," he said and you could only frown as you sat on the edge of his hospital bed.
This was also the first instance he introduced you to a gentle touch when he commented "Heh, you have pretty horns!" and lifted his hand to touch them. You ended up flinching and falling off of the bed which caused him to apologize frantically.
Of course, unlike Eri who had one little horn which grew in size and caused her pain when she didn't properly utilize her quirk, you had two fairly large horns on top of your head which relatively remained the same size.
Mirio was aware that you could control your quirk while Eri couldn't and when it came time to address how to revert his quirkless status, all eyes seemed to turn on you. Luckily Mirio spoke up on your behalf. "Don't you think it'd be better if someone else had that privilege?"
You knew he was referring to your sister, Eri. "O-oh...w-well I..." you ended up flushing and running out of the room. You weren't used to having a conversation with anyone other than your sister, let alone be in a room with other heroes discussing the potential of your quirk.
Still, you wanted to try and thank him for his kindness but as your life continued to adjust and your sister and you found homes within the Heights Alliance faculty building, you came to realize that Mirio was adjusting to the new changes as well and thought it fit to watch over you and Eri.
He spent as much time with each of you as he could, while Eri was open to exploring the world outside. You felt safer inside and as time went on you began to miss the way she'd run to you whenever she came back with Mirio slightly frightened by the sights she had seen and the people she had met.
Now she'd just come back with a smile on her face and tell you all about her day and how Lemillion was amazing. Today happened to be a little different though because when Mirio came to pick her up to take her to the park, she grabbed your hand.
"Why don't you come with us, Lemillion promised it'd be fun," she said with a pout. You stiffened and looked at her with the corner of your mouth curled. "Eri...I..." you shifted your eyes back and forth, trying to come up with an excuse.
But Mirio suddenly placed his hand on your shoulder causing you to stumble back in surprise. "Ah!" you cried out and ended up hitting a wall. You slumped to the floor with your hands and legs cradled up to your chest, your eyes wide and your face twisted with fear.
"Oh right, sorry!" he said, trying to smile as he approached and crouched down in front of you. "H-huh?" you blinked when he held out his hand, indicating he wanted you to take it. But, you only stared at it acting as if you were unsure of what he was trying to do.
But when you glanced back at his face, you could see he was beaming just like the day you had first laid your eyes on him. Why was he so happy and could you ever be that happy? He felt kind of bad for having scared you, even though he had been getting to know you these past few months.
It was clear that Eri was more social and part of that could be because she was a child and her curiosity got the best of her while you, well you were practically an adult and everything was still new to you. But he pledged he'd undo everything that Kai put you through and much like Eri, his end goal for you was to see you smile.
But he wanted to be the one to make you smile because lately, he had noticed his stomach filled with butterflies when around you and sometimes he couldn't help but blush. It was clear what was happening, and that was alright even if he didn't want to admit how he felt about you just yet.
"Heh, sorry about that," he said, rubbing the back of his head with his free hand while nervously chuckling. "I guess I gotta remember you're still working on adjusting to everything. Eri's doing a great job though, right?" he said, turning to look at her.
She smiled before nodding and walking over to you, placing her hand on the top of your knee. "You can trust Lemillion," she said, you felt a little pathetic that your younger sister was trying to comfort you. It should be the other way around.
You brought your lower lip into your mouth, chewing on it before looking up at Mirio who continued to wear a smile. You shifted your gaze back to Eri and sighed. "Um, o-okay," you said, slowly placing your hand in Mirio's.
"Don't worry, I'll keep you safe...sunshine," he promised, wrapping his fingers around your hand. "Uh, heh..." you hesitantly chuckled, a little confused and flustered by the name. But regardless, you allowed him to help you back on your feet. It was strange having someone be so gentle with you after everything you had been through.
"There, that wasn't so bad was it?" he asked and you felt your throat tighten and forced yourself to swallow hard. Your hand was trembling and this almost made him frown, but maybe once you were outside you'd feel better. After all, there was nothing like some fresh air!
"Mm..." you latched onto your lip and your teeth sunk further into it the nearer you got to the door. You could feel how Eri clasped onto your free hand and saw how her smile grew when Mirio cried "Here we go!" before throwing the door open.
And that's how you found yourself here. A gasp escaped when you suddenly heard a buzzing noise and frantically crawled backward. This immediately got Mirio's attention and both him and Eri ran over to you but your eyes were focused on the small honeybee that landed on a nearby flower.
"What's the matter!?" he exclaimed, his face twisted with concern but he noticed how your eyes were locked on the flower and curiously looked at it. That's when he noticed the bee and placed his hands on his hips with a light chuckle. "Huh?" Eri looked at him confused and he reached over to pluck the flower.
The bee remained on it, still desiring to retrieve its nectar and pollinate it in return. "There's nothing to be afraid of," he insisted before sitting down next to you and Eri next to him. You swallowed, not sure whether you trusted his words or not.
The bee flew away a few moments later, making you flinch again. "See?" he said, smiling as he stared at you. The way your hair fell in your face was similar to Eri's and he had the desire to reach over and brush it away.
"Um, can I..." he lifted his hand but frowned when you flinched in response as if he were going to hurt you. But, he didn't take it personally given the fact that he knew about your past and yeah, it did make him a little angry that Kai Chisaki had created such fear in you.
Yet as soon as he touched your hair and gently brushed a piece of it behind your ear, your shoulders slumped and you turned to him with a look of surprise. He sighed at the sight of those beautiful eyes wide and full of curiosity.
"Here," he said, placing the freshly picked flower behind your ear. "There! You look...gorgeous!" he said, although he couldn't help but give a nervous chuckle which was a little strange considering he wasn't one to let his nerves get in the way of anything.
You looked at him with wide eyes. "I...I w-what?" you replied, feeling an abnormal heat course through your cheeks. "Uh heh well..." he rubbed the back of his head. There was no way he was going to confess to you how he felt, then again it wouldn't be very heroic to run away from your feelings.
"It's just been wonderful getting to know you these past few months! Even if you spend most of your time inside, I..." he paused and you watched as his bright blue eyes scanned over your face and immediately stiffened when he placed his hands on the ground and began to lean forward with the intention of kissing you.
Of course, this was unknown to you and you leaned back, unsure of what was happening. Just as you were about to reach out and push him away, Eri stepped in between the two of you and unintentionally blocked Mirio's kiss. Instead of your lips, he ended up kissing her cheek.
"Huh?" he blinked, pulling back immediately as Eri pressed her hand to the side of her face and looked at Mirio with wide curious eyes. "Oops, heh sorry," he said, laughing nervously, he was not expecting that.
"Uh..." you raised your eyebrow, unsure if Mirio had meant to do that or not. Actually, what was he planning on doing? You latched onto your lip and nervously chuckled before shyly standing up. "Uh...I t-think I'm going to go back inside," you said.
Mirio frowned, jumping to his feet. "Wait, I can walk you back!" he insisted with his hand held out. You jumped at the sound of his voice and turned around, looking at him with wide eyes. "Oh n-no, it's alright!" you insisted before looking at Eri.
"I'm sure Eri wants to...stay out here so...I-I'll be fine," you said, trying to offer him a smile but much like your little sister, you found it somewhat difficult to do. "Heh...bye," you shyly waved before walking away leaving Mirio slightly upset.
He lowered his hand, feeling some regret that he had failed to express his feelings for you. "Mm..." Eri noticed the way he was frowning and placed her hand on his leg. "Hm?" he looked down and knew he couldn't spoil Eri's day even if he wasn't the happiest at the moment.
So he smiled and crouched down. "Heh sorry, we'll have fun now, I promise!" he forced his smile to grow bigger but Eri didn't return the happy expression. Instead, she tilted her head. "Is it my fault she doesn't wanna be outside anymore?" she asked and Mirio immediately shook his head.
"No!" he exclaimed, "Of course not, it's just..." he scratched the side of his cheek. "I was trying to get her to...like me," he admitted and Eri blinked a few times. "But, she does like you," she replied making Mirio chuckle and place his hand on her head.
"I'm glad to hear that," he said, and although he knew that Eri might not understand the way that he wanted you to like him, he'd continue to try. After all, it was only a matter of time before you felt comfortable in your new home but even if you didn't, that wouldn't stop him from telling you how he felt eventually.
I know I'm ovulating when anything smut wise just grabs my soul and fucks it good.
MY HEART
[aoânung x f!metkayina! reader]
sypnosis: from a young age you were already certain that aoânung would be your mate. however, aoânung never really seemed very fond of the idea.
warning: slight neteyam x reader, but ao'nung x reader is endgame sorry to my neteyam girlies, physical violence, threats, explicit language (?), and ao'nung's stubborn jealousy.
a/n: heyyy, nothing to report but i hope you enjoy reading this. i'll try my best to get the second part out either this week or next week.
"hey, ao'nung!"
the ten-year-old boy's smile immediately faded from his face, wincing as he turned away from his friends to look down at your little body. there you stood with a toothy grin looking right at him with your fingers wiggling in a small wave. your purple seaweed skirt blew along your legs as a heavy wind blew past you all.
"what do you want?" ao'nung snapped in annoyance, but the smile on your face only grew as you heard his voice.
"reya told me you were gonna go hunting with your friends, and i just wanted to know if i could go too!" you exclaimed, but his friends behind him burst into laughter.
"you're too weak to come with us!" one of his friends yelled out, causing another fit of laughter to sound.
"yeah, you'll only get yourself killed." another said.
their comments struck a chord in your little ten-year-old heart. it made your smile falter as you now looked like you were about to start crying. ao'nung noticed the way your lip began to tremble and could also see the way your eyes became wide with tears.
shit.
"skxawng, if you make her cry, my parents will never let me out to hunt again!" ao'nung seethed, turning his body abruptly to glare at his friends. they immediately choked back their laughter, noticing the annoyed expression that ao'nung had.
"listen, you can't come with us." ao'nung's eyes made their way to stare down at yours.
"but why? i want to go hunting with you too, you know." you whimpered, about to start crying, and ao'nung's eyes darted around nervously.
you were a ticking time bomb. ao'nung had to be careful about what he said to you or risk making you cry and his parents finding out about it. he'd never be able to hear the end of it from tsireya either.
"because if you get hurt, then i'll be in trouble." ao'nung tried to reason, but it only seemed like you wanted to start crying even more. your expression made him sigh tiredly and shut his eyes.
"okay! i promise i'll pick shells with you tomorrow if you promise just to stay here and not bother us for the rest of the day."
his promise made your eyes widen in excitement, forgetting all about going hunting. this was the first time he'd ever promised to hang out with you and just you two. there's no way you could ever pass this opportunity up.
"really?!" you gasped, your lips forming into the smile you always had on your face when you were in front of ao'nung. "you really promise?"
ao'nung sighed but nodded reluctantly. "yes, i promise."
" don't forget, okay?" you say as you are about to start running off, and he gives you a sarcastic smile. you finally skipped off to tell tsireya and rotxo, leaving ao'nung with his friends.
àš à§
you brushed your wet hair out of your face, flipping it over your shoulders, and glanced at tsireya. tsireya did the same as she approached the water's surface with her ilu. you were about to call out to her when a shadow loomed above you both for a moment, which startled you both. you lifted your head to the sky, ears perking up at the sound of animal-like calls.
"what are those?" you asked, catching a glimpse of large flying animals soaring through the sky. "it looks like they're going to land here! let's go check it out." you raced off toward the shore, leading your ilu to emerge underwater and toward the shore. tsireya was quick to follow after you on her ilu.
as you both were close to the shore, you brought your liu up towards the surface and allowed it to reach the sand. you unlinked your queue, brushing it over your shoulder, and turned to the ilu with a grateful smile.
"thank you!" you beamed, and the ilu let out a joyful squeak. you glanced behind it as tsireya popped her head up from the water. she unlinked her queue and walked up to you on the sandy shore. you nodded your head to the crowd of metkayina that slowly formed around the newcomers who had arrived on the flying animals. you both walked beside each other, making your way over. you and tsireya came up behind ao'nung and rotxo, who were too busy snickering and pointing at two new boys in front of them. it was clear that the family was a lot different from the metkayina. the dark shade of blue, yellow eyes, thin limbs, and a thin tail to match. even the tiger-like markings on their bodies were different.
"enough! rotxo, ao'nung!" tsireya reprimanded them, slapping rotxo on the wrist, and ao'nung just rolled his eyes.
"hey, ao'nung!" you greeted with a grin, and he just huffed, avoiding your eyes. you glanced at tsireya, who sighed in annoyance and smacked ao'nung on the back of his head. her older brother yelped silently and nodded his head at you.
"hey," one of the new boys said, nodding at tsireya. in turn, tsireya giggled bashfully and cast her eyes to the sand.
your lips pursed together into a knowing smile, and as you looked away from your best friend, your eyes met with a pair of golden ones. the older boy smiled at you, nodding his head as a greeting. you beamed back at him and politely shook your head back at him. unbeknownst to you, ao'nung rolled his eyes at the interaction.
"get back, (y/n)." ao'nung grumbled, grabbing your wrist and pulling you behind him. you huffed, but as you peeked around his arm, you noticed that the boy's eyes were still on you. you tilted your head in embarrassment. ao'nung must've seen the exchange because he quickly pushed you back once more.
from what you had confirmed that day, the sully family had come to the clan seeking uturu or a sanctuary. it took a lot of convincing for ronal to allow them in, even saying that the children had demon blood running through their veins. however, after confirming that the family was done with war, tonowari allowed them uturu, which was enough for ronal to trust his decision.
"my son, ao'nung and our daughter, tsireya, will show your children what to do." tonowari gestured to his children with his arm. while tisreya looked ecstatic, ao'nung was visibly displeased at the news.
"father, why do i-" he was cut off quickly by his father's arm.
"it has been decided." came his father's firm order, and you couldn't help but snicker at ao'nung's incredulous expression.
"come, i will show you the village." tsireya said kindly, stepping forward to greet the sully family.
tsireya and you happily helped the family unpack their luggage from the flying animals they arrived on. as you stood before one, you marveled at the beautiful greenish-blue scales that painted the animal. it let out a hiss, and you couldn't help but gasp in amazement. they weren't native to the land, so this was a newfound fascination for you.
"they're ikrans. there's a lot of them back home." you heard from behind you, and you were startled as you jumped at the voice. the boy who greeted you was now beside you, gazing up at his ikran.
"she's gorgeous." you breathed out and watched as he lifted a hand to its snout. he gestured for you to pet the animal as well, and you were more than happy to do so. a breathy laugh left your lips as you felt the skin of its snout.
"if you'd like, i could show you how to ride." the boy offered, and your head snapped up at him in surprise.
"really?!" you gasped with a smile creeping up onto your lips.
"yeah, they only allow one rider, but you can ride with me if you want to feel what it is like to fly." he chuckled. "i promise."
you paused at that for a moment at the last bit. you tilted your head up at him, searching his face for evidence of lies. there wasn't. his golden eyes pierced into yours with sincerity. a sincerity that didn't seem to waver.
"okay," you say, breaking eye contact to look at his ikran. "i'm (y/n), by the way."
"neteyam." the omaticayan boy responded, and you were about to say something until somebody behind you both cleared their throat. you quickly turned around to find ao'nung with his arms crossed against his chest and a prominent frown on his face.
"don't you have something better to do, (y/n)?" ao'nung snapped, and his condescending tone brought a frown on your face. a frown that mirrored his. "you don't have to be here."
"just wanted to help,â you grumbled, letting your hand fall from the ikranâs snout and glaring at the ground.
âyouâre probably bothering them,â he retorted as he approached you both.
âhey, itâs no problem.â neteyam tried to defend, but aoânung just rolled his eyes and grabbed your wrist. as he pulled you away, you turned your head back to the newcomer to wave him goodbye.
âit was nice meeting you, neteyam!â you shouted, which further angered the male pulling you away.
âyou should stay clear of them.â aoânung grunted as you both made it to the village, and you looked at him in disbelief.
âstay away from them or just him?â you griped, swiping your arm away from his hold, and he looked shocked at your tone and your angry expression.
âthem,â he stated. âtheyâre freaks, (y/n). you heard what my mother said. demon blood.â you gasped loudly enough for some of the villagers to hear, and your lip curled into a nasty growl.
âi canât believe you!â you raised both of your arms to shove him in the chest, making him stagger back a little. âjust because some of them have four fingers does not make them any less naâvi. do you think that ignorantly?â
âlook at them, (y/n)! theyâre-â
âiâve seen them, aoânung, and they are not freaks. theyâre just different.â you sighed, wrapping your arms around your body and switching your gaze down to your feet. âit seems that you are the one who needs to look harder.â you didnât even give him a chance to speak as you just brushed past him and walked toward your marui, leaving the metkayina boy by himself. aoânung didnât even notice the sully family coming up from behind him, along with rotxo and tsireya.
âtrouble in paradise?â aoânung heard rotxo say teasingly from behind him.
âshut up, rotxo.â was his response as the tsireya led the sully family down the passageway and to their new home.
àš à§
aoânung was not happy with the arrangement. it was already bad enough that he had to help them out, but then you came into the picture. suddenly, you were much more concerned with whether the sully kids understood the lessons they were teaching or assisting one of them with something they were struggling with. even after lessons, you'd constantly gush about the sullys, and ao'nung grew more annoyed as you began to ask questions about them.
"do you think we should start with breathing lessons? neteyam seems to have a hard time with those."
"lo'ak has improved on ilu riding, no?"
"kiri is such a natural, don't you think?"
every time you talked about them, ao'nung stormed off in a huff, and you'd be left alone, wondering whether you said something to upset him.
"(y/n)!" the said girl turned around to find neteyam jogging up towards her. "is ao'nung alright? he looked upset." you pursed your lips together as you looked at where ao'nung had stood before he took off toward the village.
"just ao'nung being ao'nung, i guess" you sheepishly shrugged, and neteyam chuckled as he nodded. "did you need something? maybe you need more help?"
"just wanted to know if you were free." neteyam replied, bringing his arm up to rub the back of his neck nervously. "i promised you that i would show you how to fly."
"oh," you breathed out until your eyes widened in surprise. "oh! i didn't think you'd remember that."
neteyam seemed embarrassed now. "oh, it's okay if you change your mind! i won't force you to."
"no, i would love to!" you giggled, placing a hand on his arm to lull his embarrassment. "i think it's only fair that i learn a bit of your home, too, right?"
"yeah." neteyam replied with a smile and led you toward the sand to call his ikran. "i think you'll enjoy flying. "
you nodded as you watched him let out a loud yelp and whistle. it was silent momentarily until you felt a huge gust of wind weigh against your figure. your eyes narrowed as you lifted your arms across your face to avoid the flying sand around you. once the area was clear, you brought your arm to your side and slowly opened your eyes to find neteyam's ikran in front of you. you grinned as neteyam patted his ikran on its snout.
"tam, tam." he cooed at the animal before gesturing for you to come closer to pet it.
you cautiously shuffled over, hesitantly raising your hand toward the snout. you waited for a moment, shutting your eyes as the ikran moved its head closer to you. you finally let out the breath you were holding as you felt the soft flesh of the animal. your eyes slowly opened to find the ikran nudging its snout against your hand.
"you are simply gorgeous!" you exclaimed, and it huffed in response which only caused the grin on your face to stretch across your cheeks, and you snapped your head to neteyam, who stood beside you.
your smile faded as you noticed his gaze on you. his eyes were soft and heated as he stared down at you. it made you feel nervous as you turned your attention back to the ikran, trying to avoid the omaticayan boy's eyes.
"so, how do you ride?" your question seemed to have snapped neteyam out of his trance as he now frantically looked between you and his ikran.
"right," neteyam cleared his throat before pulling his queue over his shoulder and signaling the ikran to crouch down. "first, i make the bond. back home, we must tame an ikran as a test in our rite of passage. once you do, your ikran will only fly with one rider for the rest of its life." he explained, climbing onto the saddle and bringing the ikran's queue towards his own. you watched in fascination as the ikran began to shift anxiously, but neteyam quickly calmed his ikran down.
"one rider?" you tilted your head in confusion, and neteyam nodded before holding his hand out for her to take. you reached for his hand and gasped as he pulled you up the saddle to sit behind him.
"yes, our bond is like your bond with your spirit sister." neteyam said, and you nodded, trying to take in the new information. the forest and the reef people held many differences, but also had many similarities.
"okay, hold on." neteyam instructed, and you expected him to hand you some rope to hold on to, but it only confused you as he didn't give you anything. his sudden laughter rang through your ears as you seemed unsure of what to hold on to. "here." neteyam offered with a chuckle as he reached behind him to grab your arms and wrap them around his midriff. your eyes widened in realization, and as he let go of your hands, you loosened your hold for a moment to lessen the contact.
neteyam let out a yelp, signaling the ikran to take off. you shrieked as the ikran uttered a shrill cry, and neteyam led his ikran off the ground. you gasped as the ground below became less and less. you couldn't help but tighten your arms around neteyam's waist. your stomach began to burst into butterflies at the sudden motion. you pressed your cheek against his back, and your eyes quickly shut.
"are you okay?!" you heard neteyam yell over the wind, and you meekly nodded your head against his shoulder blade. "you should open your eyes! the view is great from up here!"
you did just that, and low and behold, the view was breathtaking from above. the sun was setting at the horizon, and its golden hues cast along the crystal waters. the island of enormous mangrove trees seemed to be the masterpiece of the view. you could make out the little blurbs of people below. the fishermen wrapping up their work, children splashing about in the water, and the women lighting the candles for nighttime to fall. as you slowly breathed in, you relished in the way the wind blew through your hair. being in the sky was a new, exhilarating feeling. it felt so free and wild. you let your head hang back before letting out a laugh. neteyam's ears perked up at your laughter, and he smiled to himself before leading his ikran to free fall.
"neteyam!" you screeched, pressing your cheek against him once more.
was he trying to kill you? was this his plan the whole time? build your trust and then have you meet eywa? it wasn't until the ikran was a foot away from the water that neteyam pulled the reins. the ikran swiftly directed itself to fly an inch above the water, and you sighed in relief. you heard neteyam burst into laughter, and you shook your head with a smile.
"that was not funny!" you snapped teasingly, slapping neteyam's shoulder blade. "i thought i was going to die, skxawng!"
"i was considered the most skilled ikran rider back home." neteyam boasted, leading his ikran to land back safely onto the sand and unlinked his queue from his ikran. he skillfully hopped off the animal before lifting his head to look at you.
"i promise that i would never do anything to put you in danger," he said, and his words made you purse your lips into a thin-lipped smile. it was that word again. "come then, it is almost time for us to head home." neteyam noted the darkening sky and held his hands up to assist you off the ikran's saddle. your hands reached down to meet his until neteyam was shoved into the sand.
"ao'nung!" you yelled, watching in horror as the boy now stood above neteyam with his fist clenched by his side. "what are you doing?!" you questioned, carefully sliding off neteyam's ikran and planting your feet into the sand.
"what am i doing? what are you doing?!" ao'nung scoffed, turning his attention to you. he stormed up to you and pointed an accusing finger in your face. "i told you to stay away from them."
"are you crazy?!" you huffed incredulously and walked past him to help neteyam off the ground.
neteyam looked bewildered as he got up from the ground, his gaze switching between you and ao'nung. the boy was visibly angry with his creased brows and curled lip. ao'nung's hateful glare was directed at neteyam, who didn't understand why he was the victim of ao'nung's wrath at the moment.
"you! are you an idiot?!" ao'nung sneered at neteyam, storming up toward him. "you could have killed her up there!"
"well i didn't!" neteyam yelled back. "what's your problem?!"
"ao'nung, just let me-!" you snapped, only to let out a sharp gasp as ao'nung tackled neteyam to the sand.
ao'nung and neteyam wrestled for dominance, rolling over one another to gain the upper hand. neteyam finally straddled ao'nung, pulling back his fist and punching the boy in the jaw. you tried to get between the two boys, grabbing neteyam's shoulders to pull him off ao'nung, but that only left room for ao'nung to shove neteyam off of him. ao'nung was now on top of neteyam, punching him consistently in the face.
you felt helpless trying to pry ao'nung off by his shoulders, but it was no use. he was far stronger than you and it wasn't until you were shoved aside into the sand that you decided to give up and call for help. luckily for you, rotxo, tsireya, and lo'ak were nearby and were startled at your desperate pleas that rang through their ears. they quickly took notice of the brawl that was happening behind you and immediately sprang into action. rotxo wrapped his arms under ao'nung's underarms and loo'ak kneeled beside his brother to put some distance between the two fighting boys.
"stay away from her, you hear me?!" ao'nung shouted, struggling to get out of rotxo's hold. "if i see you near her again, i'll kill you, forest boy!"
"ao'nung!" you and tsireya yelled out in horror, eyes widening at his threat.
neteyam hissed, but lo'ak gripped his wrist and shook his head at him. lo'ak had never seen his brother lose his cool this way and it was highly unusually for him to be the mediator in this situation.
"come on, bro, let's just go." lo'ak urged, quickly standing up and holding his hand out. neteyam glanced back at ao'nung who stared down at him menacingly and then back at his brother before taking lo'ak's hand and pulling himself up. neteyam gave ao'nung one last glare and turned his back
"tsireya, please go check if he needs to be patched up." you instructed the younger girl and she nodded before following after the sully brothers. "rotxo." you firmly called out at the boy and he nodded, releasing his hold on his best friend and made his way after tsireya to leave you and ao'nung alone.
you took a deep breath in before stalking up to the still seething boy and slapping him across the face. ao'nung was visibly shocked, snapping his head to look down at you while his cheek stung a bit from your action. your brows were furrowed and your lips were turned down in a displeased frown.
you were furious.
"why did you do that?" you questioned angrily and he just staared at you, still processing the slap that you had just delivered across his face.
"that idiot could've killed you and you're asking me that?!" came his harsh response which made you scoff immediately.
"well, he didn't." you snapped, holding your arms out to show no injuries on your body. "i'm unharmed as you can see."
"and if you had fallen off, then what?!"
"is this really what this is about?" you asked desperately, titling your head incredulously at his behavior.
"what?" ao'nung furrowed his brows in confusion, not at all understanding what you were talking about now.
"i'm not stupid, ao'nung," you laughed bitterly, sending him a glare that pierced through his core. "ever since the sullys arrived, you've been acting different. your attitude toward them is unbelievable, especially toward neteyam who was just trying to show me a piece of his home."
"its clear that he wants to do more with you." ao'nung sneered and now it was your eyes widened in realization.
ao'nung was jealous.
if ao'nung had shown you his jealous side back as children, you would've felt giddy. however, ao'nung's behavior to the innocent sully boy was not something that you stood for. you knew ao'nung could be brash, but ao'nung's protectiveness and envy was of bad intent and you could see it in the way ao'nung had thrown his punches.
"you do not get to be jealous." you deadpanned and ao'nung was surprised at your statement. "not when you've never shown interest in me at all."
"you're an idiot, (y/n)," ao'nung scoffed. "now that some boy shows you some interest, you all of sudden have feelings for him?"
"I don't feelings for neteyam!" you yelled, absolutely exhausted at the boy's stubbornness. "I have feelings for you, skxawng! I always have and you know this!"
ao'nung stayed quiet at your confession. the confession wasn't new information. he had known since you were kids that you were head over heels for him. from the way you would always greet him as if it was your first time seeing him, follow him around with that stupid smile on your face, and the way your eyes always seemed to look at him like he was the most beautiful person that eywa had ever created.
"you know that i've loved you since we were children," you sighed, feeling your eyes droop tiredly and ao'nung winced at the pained tone in your voice. "but now, i don't even know who you are anymore. you can't expect me to wait for someone who doesn't return my feelings."
"(y/n)-" ao'nung started to say, but you shook your head to stop him from apologizing.
"if i'm an idiot for giving my attention to someone who does have interest in me, then so be it." you said, biting back tears that watered your eyes and ao'nung's chest tightened at the sight of your saddened expression.
"it would be stupid of me to continue giving my attention to someone who has shown no interest in me, despite my obvious affection."
ao'nung's throat felt constricted and his heart started to beat furiously at your statement. you looked tired; defeated even, as you just stared up at him with those big doe eyes of yours. you looked at him as if he were a stranger. as if you two had not grown up together as children. it hurt him to see you like this, but it angered him even more that he was the cause of this expression.
"i have to get home now, my parents are expecting me." you say after a minute of silence between you both. "goodnight, ao'nung. may eywa. be with you."
ao'nung watched with a pained expression as you turned your back toward him and started walking back to the village with your arms wrapped around yourself.
it wasn't until you were inches away from the village that you finally broke down. you crouched down to the sand and slapped a hand on your mouth to stifle the sobs that threatened to escape your lips. you felt so hurt by the harsh words that were exchanged. it hurt you even more to say that you were basically giving up on ao'nung. you had given up on trying to win his affection.
"(y/n), are you alright?" tsireya asked, concerned at the way you were crouched down.
you looked up at her with tears coming down your cheeks and the younger girl's eyes softened in pity. it was clear to her that you and ao'nung had a spat. a really bad spat at that if you were crying over him.
"oh, (y/n)," she whimpered, kneeling down to engulf your body into a hug. "come, let me walk you home, okay?" tsireya cooed, helping you up and circling an arm around your shoulders before leading you off to your marui.
tsireya turned her head back to where you had came from. sure enough, ao'nung still stood with his fists clenched tightly at his side and tsireya sighed, shifting her attention back to leading you back home.
tsireya could only hope that her older brother had finally came to his senses about not only your feelings, but his as well.

"Let me grow old with you and I promise to be wiser," took my whole damn breath away đ« got me melting.
Uh-oh! I think you're holding the heart of mine!
Synopsis ! You should have known better than to love someone so cruel.
Content and warning: Ao'nung x Reader! Ao'nung is a mean IDIOT, his friends too. BULLIES >:[ he comes around tho (2.6k words of angst to comfort hahah)
Youâve been in love with Aoânung since you were little kids, always trailing behind like a second shadow and mimicking even the smallest gestures. To you, he was the sun; so bright and achingly alluring, but like the sun, he was cruelâ oh so cruel. Heâd burn you every chance he gets and youâd take it willingly, grateful for even the slightest touch of warmth.Â
You never took it to heart. Never. This was a challenge that youâve accepted with great pride thinking that you could crack his mean demeanor; you were convinced that the reason he had this seemingly tough exterior was because he was future clan leaderâ of course he needed to be strong. It would be bad for his image to falter, let alone to a girl who held no title whatsoever. You were nobody.Â
Tsireya would say otherwise. though. She was your number one supporter; always urging you to do better and to continue with your cute antics towards his brother. She knows youâd be great for himâ heck, you were the only one she deemed suitable for Aoânung. How could she not think so? You were a great hunter, always quick on your feet and vigilant. On top of that, you were resilient. You never knew when to give up.Â
You were believed to have been loved, regardless of his very actions. You remember crying to Tsireya one afternoon, showing her the graze on your forearm. The sight of it alarmed herâ anything bloodied, even in the smallest of form would worry any kid so she rushed you to her mother.Â
Ronal cooed while she tended to your wound and you unconsciously poured your heart out about how Aoânung had pushed you harshly down the sand, scraping your skin on scattered rocks in the process. His friends had laughed at you, pointing their fingers to your fragile form, cowering.Â
âMaybe heâs being aggressive because he likes you back!â Tsireya reasons, oblivious to what really was the caseâ but you were only kids, rough housing and games like these were normal so you didnât know any better either. You wiped your runny nose and took a deep breath.Â
âYou really think so?â and still you were hopeful.Â
Tsireya nodded enthusiastically, taking your hands near her chest. Ronal softly smiled, rubbing your back in soothing circles. âIâm sorry about Aoânung, ma __. Iâll be sure to give him a good scolding later when he gets home.â
âAnd who knows, maybe he does like you. Boys just donât like to talk about their feelings.â What Ronal said only burned your hopes higherâ encouraging your heart to push for a longer run.
It wasnât always like this. You and him were best of friends, inseparable and kind. You were a trio along with Tsireya and you absolutely loved spending time with them; swimming, exploring the oceanâ being kids. Ever since, you knew he was the one, almost like it was the great motherâs own will. The feelings blossomed every spent time with him and you cherished it wholeheartedly.Â
âYou should eat plenty so that you grow up to be strong, Aoânung!â Youâd force bits of fish near his lips, urging him to open up. He was throwing a tantrum after being scolded by Ronal, arms tightly crossed and refusing to eat anything. âI donât want a lanky mate!â
And of course it had been a joke. Youâd love him regardless of what he looked like and you knew it, but it was so forward of you and it would always catch him off guard. His cheeks would burn bright red and heâd turn into a stuttering mess.Â
âMate?â He asked incredulously which you returned with an eager nod. âThatâs grown up talk! Donât say things like that until weâre older.âÂ
âYouâre gonna have so many pretty children!â Tsireya would comment and you both would squeal, oblivious to the frantic young boy.Â
After he had started to train, Aoânung was naturally introduced to other warriors. He fit in perfectly. As much as you were happy for him, that was also when things took a turn and before you know it, it was only you and Tsireya left.Â
Aoânung thought that what you had for him would be harmlessâ a silly crush your young heart couldnât comprehend yet, but you had now grown into a fine woman and the said love had developed just as much. The people werenât blind to see how youâve matured so beautifullyâ but the men your age knew better than to even try to talk to you. Everyone knew you had eyes for Aoânung and him only, and the way he grew himself had women dote for him.Â
It drove him crazy; the sly comments, the lingering touch, the giftsâ your very presence. He didnât know how to handle it, so when his heart beat turned frantic everytime, heâd call it frustration. How his face would burn, how his chest would tighten. Aoânung was conflicted and his mother was rightâ boys donât like to talk about their feelings and he never will.Â
Heâd push you away harshly. Snapping the countless bracelets youâve carefully crafted for him, embarrassing you regardless of eyes watching, and belittled you any chance he gets. Every woman would cry there and then, immediately running off in embarrassmentâ but you stayed everytime and it infuriated him. Aoânung couldnât shake you off, even if you werenât around. You were everywhere he went, even in dreams.Â
You sat with him as he sharpened his fishing spear, not even sparing a glance at your presence. âOel ngati kameie, Aoânung.âÂ
The silence didnât falter you. In fact, it was inviting you to continue. You were surprised he hadnât even got up to leave so you gratefully took the opportunity and handed him a present wrapped in leaves. He dropped his weapon and begrudgingly took it, opening it in one go.Â
It was a pretty tie with various beads along the strings. His hair was sometimes unruly and he disliked braiding it, so you figured youâd make him something to wear. For a minute, he stared, admiring itâ but the way your smile grew every second had embarrassed him. Aoânung snickered, throwing it carelessly on the ground and you immediately scrambled to look for it.
âIâm not interested.â He emphasized every word as if he tried to make you understand, harshly kicking the sand towards your kneeling body. Aoânung left and you could only stare with a sigh. Â
So maybe this time, you were to blame. After all the years heâd push you away, embarrass you in front of his friends, you were still the same stupid shell of a girl who thought he had finally changedâ he had finally cracked and you were confident. It was afternoon when they approached you, asking for your presence while they hunted further the reefs. Aoânung had asked youâ Aoânung.
Nothing else mattered, not even the obvious snickers from the background. You nodded enthusiastically, tripping on your heels as you hurriedly ran back home to get ready. They had already mounted their Ilu when you returned and without a word, you followed them.Â
So maybe this time, you were to blame. You shouldâve known better than to be so trustingâ so gullible and naive. Night was approaching quickly and Aoânung or any of his friends were nowhere to be seen. The thrashing waves would unmercifully shove your small body on the very rock that helped you keep afloat, its harsh and sharp edges scratching your skin. The ocean was reprimanding you, youâve concluded after trying to hold on for hoursâ the blame was yours and yours only. Stupid, stupid girl.
They had left you and this time, you knew well enough it had been their intention.Â
They were laughing back at shore, applauding themselves for a successful prank. You were to return later all disheartened and the sight would be the cherry on top, but Aoânung grew restless every minute. This was wrong and he knew that well.Â
His friends had already bid their goodbyes but he stood there, waiting. He started to walk in circles while fidgeting his fingersâ something was wrong. Perhaps it was a sibling thing for Tsireya to start feeling uneasy as well, so she excused herself from her mother and seeked for his brother. It wasnât hard to find him and when she did, her panic only worsened as she approached him.Â
âWhatâs wrong, brother?â Tsireya asked, eyebrows knitted together.Â
â__â He immediately answered, â__ is outside the reef.â
Tonowari and a few warriors immediately ventured out to search for you. Tsireya couldn't even be enraged at his brother as she was busy worrying herselfâ but Ronal was a different case. She had been biting his ear off the very moment he told her what happened but Aoânung easily tuned her out, only hearing his rapid heartbeat.Â
It felt like forever, but the moment his father had returned, he ran towards him straight away. There you were, a warrior propping you up gently as you limped. You were bloodied and out of breathâ he winced at the cuts coating your skin. Before he could even approach you, you had flinched.Â
The look you gave him made him shudder. It was so unlike you to look at him differently, so empty and void of any admiration. Suddenly, his throat was awfully parched and he was entirely unmovingâ all the apologies that were begging to be spat out from the tip of his tongue, gone. You stood there, staring with your teary doe eyes.Â
His presence made you nauseous and you wouldâve cowered in instinct, if not for the warriorâs hold on your shoulders. You couldâve diedâ you almost did; you were already slipping and numb.
Your parents had immediately ran to you, crying as they held you near. They rushed your weary body to Ronal in a heartbeat. The clan spoke in whispers as Tonowari dispersed the growing crowd.Â
Aoânung could only watch at your retreating figure. He visibly gulped. This was it, he thought, this was what he wished for.Â
And it had only hurt him terribly.
He stayed near the hut regardless and heard how you whimperedâ how youâd sniffle and cry. The paste burned against your skin and you couldnât help but squirm. You felt so ugly, so humiliated and little.Â
Ronal finally walks out, the sound of the flap waking Aoânungâs drowsy state. âMother, how is she?â He receives only a scornful glare as she walks past him.Â
âMother, please.âÂ
âI am deeply disappointed in you, Aoânungâ She said, clearly holding back. The tsahik sighed, âbut for her sake, I will save you from any more scolding. It is what she asks for.âÂ
And it was so like you to think of him before yourself. It applied more pressure on his already beaten heart and he could only drop his head in shame. This was his fault and he had to face the consequences he so begged for all these yearsâ so where did this sickening desire to hold you close come from? It was bittersweet on his tongue and no water could get rid of the taste.Â
âI know that look, brother.â Tsireya didnât have to glance to see his troubled state. Itâs been daysâ no, weeks. He couldnât get to you; skilfully blending in with your surroundings and out his sight, scurrying quickly towards another directionâ it was clear you wanted nothing to do with him.Â
It pained himâ absolutely shattered him to pieces.Â
âI canât reach her, Tsireya.â His frown deepens as he frustratingly tugged on his hair.Â
âAnd you will never again!â Aoânung flinched. As much as Tsireya enjoyed the torment of his brother, she still rooted for the both of youâ still standing firm with the fact that youâd do good for him, but she thought of you and knew you also deserved better. With a dejected sigh, she whispers, âIf.. you donât hurry.âÂ
âHer hideout. Now. Go make things right.â Tsireya hoped she was doing the right thing.
Aoânung darted in a heartbeatâ disrupting the busy clan and accidentally bumping into them. He couldnât waste any time anymore, he had to get to you or else heâd forever hold his peace. Every step he took was an image of you with someone else; someone else willing to make you happy, someone else to be your mate.Â
And he hated that. It only fueled him to go faster, eventually reaching a pond surrounded by trees. The place was hidden and only the three of you knew where it was locatedâ it was your safe place.
There you were, relaxed and unknowing. It was cruel like this; for Eywa to strikingly illustrate you in a different lightâ in a different point of view, or perhaps it had never changed and he just chose to never look at you the way heâs staring now. You were absolutely beautiful, basking in the glow of the dusk. The water swayed you gently and the calm on your face was inviting.Â
This was his only chance.Â
Aoânung approached you, allowing the water to swallow him near you. He called out your name in a whisper and you immediately turned to him in surprise. Before he could even get another word out, you tried to hoist yourself up to escape, but he was quick to grab your wrist.Â
You hissed in return, his touch burning the healing cuts on your skin. âYou donât get to be sorry.âÂ
You had turned your back on him and only then did he see the same tie that you tried to give him around your hair. It was gut-wrenchingâ the taste of his own medicine.Â
âI knew you wanted me off your skin, but I didnât realize you wanted me gone.â And he knew what you meant, immediately wincing at the thought.
âIâm sorry, __â The apology came out almost in a desperate manner. Aoânung was aching to touch youâ to hug you close. He was willing to apologize forever, if it meant that youâd finally turn around and look at him, but when you did, his body went rigid and he wanted to swallow his words. âFuck, Iâm so sorry.â
You were crying and you looked everywhere but him. He took a step forward and when you didnât retreat, he took the chance to hold your cheek, caressing it with his thumb. You absolutely hated itâ hated him. Even after everything, he was warm. âYou donât get to be sorry.â
âHow could you be so,â You hit his chest harshly, the water splashing along your movements, âHow could you be so mean?â
âI am young, __â Aoânung softly said, his eyes on you unmoving. âYoung and absolutely stupid.âÂ
âDamn right you are.â
He let out a breathy chuckle. âI never had anyone love me the way you do. Anyone who paid me any mind wanted me for my statusâ they only wanted the olo'eyktanâs son.âÂ
You turned your head with a click of a tongue, only for him to grab your chin to look at him again. Of course you never wanted him because of his or his parentâs titleâ you loved him genuinely and he was a coward to not see that. His expression was nothing but sincere and you hated it.
âI am young and stupid, __, so please.â He takes another step forward and you were sure the small gap between your bodies had cut your inability to breathe. The water had gone cold and you couldnât move. You stayed there, looking up at him. âLet me grow old with you and I promise to be wiser.âÂ
âI see you, __.â

âCatch me if you can!â A little Aonung laughs, followed by your cousin, Rotxo who adds âWe can run faster than your little legs!â
âNo, you canât!â Little you said, catching speed towards them.
Your parents alongside Tonowari and Ronal watched. âLook at them.â Your mother cooed to Ronal, her best friend as you finally caught up to Aonung and Rotxo a little too harsh, sending the three of you stumbling onto the sand.
Both mothers laughed at their children. Your father and Tonowari looked at each other with a content look on their faces.
As the years progressed, all of you grew into fine hunters, particularly you and Aonung had gotten close.
Your parents could tell there was this unspoken bond between the two of you, not long after his parents began noticing it too. Not long enough, they therefore decided that the two of you were fated together.
That Aoânung in the future would be the oloâekytan, with you by his side as tsahik. A mated pair before Eywa and their people.
But that was still a long time coming, as the two had accomplished their rite of passage, the two has yet to decide when they would be mates.
It still baffled you that you and Aonung would become a mated pair in the future, and now Ronal had taken you under her wing to be a tsakarem just like Tsireya.
âNow this way.â Ronal was teaching the two of you. You and Tsireya looked at each other before following her.
You were glad that you and Tsireya were able to become close due to always spending the time together learning.
After finishing your lesson for the day, you and Tsireya bid goodbye to Ronal with a smile on your faces.
âWeâre just going out, mother.â Tsireya laughs.
Ronal gives the two of you her rare smiles, she could very well remember your mother and her being like that in the past. âGo, keep safe.â
Leaving the Marui, you were greeted with the afternoon sky. You gave a stretch and a yawn. Tsireya breathes in the air. âI still canât believe youâre going to be my sister-in-law soon!â She gushed, making you snap your mouth shut and blush.
âTsireyaaaaâŠâ You whine, you hated when she always teased you about her brother, not in a negative way, it was more like a stop-teasing-because-I-will-literally-combust-into-butterflies way.
âYou better not be messing with her, sister.â
âAnd speaking of.â Tsireya said, looking up to meet his brother. â- And no, I am not! Iâm just telling how happy weâll be ifââ You covered her mouth, not facing Aonung, who was standing behind you.
He raises an eyebrow at you and smirks. âHappy if?â
âHappy if- uh...â You thought. Tsireya then takes your hand off her mouth and spoke.
âHappy if youâd finally make her a part of the family!â
You scrunch your face, closing your eyes shut as heat seeped through your cheeks, turning a shade darker.
Instantly, you felt Aonungâs hand snake to your arm, going to your shoulder, gently turning you around to meet him.
You open your eyes and the first thing you see is that stupid smirk on his face that you fell in love with.
âSeems like they canât wait, can they?â He teased.
âTsireya I told y-â You turned to face her, Aonungâs hand still on your shoulder but Tsireya was already skipping away from the two of you.
You sigh rather loudly, facing him.
âYou not happy to see me anymore?â Aoânung tilts his head, looking down at you. Your pout turns into a playful smile as you playfully shoved his chest.
Aonung laughs, pulling you close as he wraps an arm around your waist as the two of you started walking side by side.
âIt feels like everyoneâs expecting us to be mated already.â You started the conversation. Aonung turns his head to you, before he looks out the horizon.
âMother has been asking about it too.â He replied. You turn to him, studying his features as he looked in front of him.
You blink.
âYou should hear my mother instead, asking me if you had already asked me, considering the number of gifts youâve given me.â You could feel Aonung chuckle as you leaned onto his side.
His arms gave a comforting squeeze. âYou know Iâll always wait for you.â Aonung wasnât one to push, he knew youâll give him your answer when you were ready.
For now, the two of you were just enjoying being young, being together.
But you felt guilty, sure you had all the time in the world, but you could not keep him waiting even if he constantly reassures you. You were lucky to have someone as patient and loyal as him.
âBesides, itâs not like you could do anything about it, youâre stuck with me.â Aonung jokes with a smirk, his arm now going to wrap around your shoulder as he gives a subtle feather-light kiss on the side of your temple.
You blush with a laugh. âBeing stuck with the oloâeyktanâs finest hunter⊠who wouldâve thought?â
âHmm, I guess little you did.â He responds. âBut little me thinks heâs luckier having this beautiful girl beside him, the girl who captured his heart and trapped it with hers.â
âOh, you can be quite the dramatic.â You say as the two of you walked along the shore.
âNot dramatic if it is true.â
There you go again, blushing for the nth time within minutes of being with him. It instantly made your day better.
But both of your fun had to end as eclipse set. Aonung was now walking you towards your marui.
Reaching the destination and entering, you were greeted by your mother and father. But your mother looked like she was happier to see Aonung.
âAonung, my son! How are you?â Your mother greeted him and Aonung smiles.
âI am good ma, I just thought Iâd walk (Y/N) back here, to make sure she gets home safe.â
Your mother instantly cooes, thanking him. Your father seemed to be also pleased by Aonungâs presence as he gives him a nod to which Aonung bowed to.
âMom, Aonung has to go home now, look how dark it is outside.â You say, placing a hand on your mother as you looked out.
âOh, imagine it, soon the two of you will be finally sharing your own marui, youâd no longer have to worry about each other going home separately.â
The thought sent you and Aonung looking at each other as Aonung sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck.
âMom!â You say.
Finally, your mother gives in an bids goodbye to Aonung as she returned to her spot.
âIâll see you tomorrow?â He asked.
âOf course, goodnight.â You smiled.
ïŒ*âąÌ©Ì©Íâ©âąÌ©Ì©Í*Ë àȘàŹË*âąÌ©Ì©Íâ©âąÌ©Ì©Í*ËïŒ
The following weeks ran smoothly.
However, today was something youâd never expect to happen.
You were on your ilu, carrying your bag filled with freshly plucked shellfish on your way to the shore when screeching sounded.
You had commanded your ilu to stop when you looked up.
Knitting your brows, you find a couple of mountain banshees approaching. It had you thinking, there wasnât any news from the Omatikaya clan that they would be coming today?
And weirdly enough, why would they need five of them if they were only to send a message?
You watched as they circled around, more people noticing as they yelped at them. Soon, everyone was gathering around the shore.
Instantly you saw Tsireya on her ilu as well. Deciding to approach her, she notices you and speaks. âWhat do you think theyâre doing here?â
âI donât knowâŠâ You respond.
Then they landed.
You and Tsireya looked at each other. âCome, letâs see!â Tsireya says curiously, already had her ilu moving. You followed.
As the crowd formed around them, you and Tsireya had reached the shore, dismounting and walking towards them curiously.
To your surprise, you already see Aonung and Rotxo, who was having too much fun in making fun of their tails.
You walked behind Tsireya as she slaps Rotxo on the arm, making you chuckle. âDo not. Rotxo, Aonung.â
Finally looking to see your visitors, it had taken you by surprise. They were blue, their arms where thin and long, and their tails was⊠small compared to yours. They had striking eyes that had a mix of yellow and green in them.
âHey.â You hear one of them speak beside the other teenage boy, you could see him looking at Tsireya, making the two of you giggle.
Though you also feel the other boyâs eyes on you as you looked to confirm your suspicions. He was, indeed, looking at you.
He flashes you a friendly smile and you smiled back at him.
Little did you know Aonung watched the interaction, sending him glaring daggers at the back of the poor boyâs head as he tapped Rotxo on the side, muttering things under his breath.
As the oloâeyktan and tsahik arrived, Aonung and Tsireya walked to get beside their parents while you followed behind them with your cousin, Rotxo.
You watched the whole scene play out as Ronal circled them, pointing out their appearance, to when Tonowari granted them to stay.
âMy son Aonung and our daughter Tsireya will show your children what to do.â Tonowari spoke.
Instantly, your eyes shift to Aonung who stepped forward to speak out to his father.
âFather, whyââ
âIt has been decided.â
Tsireya offers them a gentle smile, before looking back at you and pulling onto your hand to drag you with her.
Aonung notices this of course, and he has a sour look on his face as he watches the two of you.
âCome! We will show you our village.â
The crowd dispersed as Toruk Maktoâs family had gathered their belongings. You were standing beside Tsireya. Honestly, curiosity was gnawing at you, and you were thankful Tsireya had dragged you with her.
You watched them as they carried their stuff, and you already feel the same pair of eyes looking at you as you talked with Tsireya. You gripped on your bag a little tightly as you looked at them.
âWeâll help you with that.â Tsireya says, grabbing a few bags off of Neytiri as she thanked her, while you had chosen to help the boy from earlier, seeing that he has a lot to hold on to.
âI can take it, here.â You approach him, grabbing a few bags and a roll of mat off him before he had a chance to refuse.
âThank you.â Was the only thing he said to you.
Now making your way to their newly assigned marui, the boy had introduced himself to you.
âHi, thank you again for carrying our stuff⊠you didnât have to.â He says from behind you, you slow your footsteps to have him walk beside you. âItâs the least we could do, this is going to be your new home after all.â
He pauses, his mouth opening and closing as he walked with you. âI am Neteyam.â
Neteyam? Hmm.
â(Y/N). It is nice to meet you, Neteyam.â You reply.
â(Y/N)⊠nice.â
âHm?â You look at him. âI mean it is nice to meet you.â He clears his words.
Aonung and Rotxo watched behind all of you, specifically, Aonungâs eyes were targeted on the boy beside you as he strikes up a conversation.
âJust up here.â Tsireya announces.
Reaching the newly made marui, you had left the boy to walk besides Tsireya, placing their bags down.
âThis is for you, your new home.â She spoke.
âThis is nice, right?â Jake Sully had said, in turn, you flinch as the noise of the mat being carried by Neytiri had dropped as everyone turned to look at her.
âWe will leave you guys to get settled.â You say, placing your hands together with a small smile.
âWe will teach you starting tomorrow, but for now I hope you all get some rest.â Tsireya announced.
Walking away, you smirked and nudged Tsireya on the side âThat boy couldnât take his eyes off you.â You teased her. Tsireya giggles, rolling her eyes. âYou had that one boy staring at you too.â
Now it was your turn to roll your eyes, you and Tsireya walking side by side laughing to yourselves.
Rotxo and Aonung watched from the side as the two of you laughed and giggled like little kids. It struck his nerves, what were the two of you laughing about? He sighs, patting Rotxo on the side to go and do their own pending tasks.
ïŒ*âąÌ©Ì©Íâ©âąÌ©Ì©Í*Ë àȘàŹË*âąÌ©Ì©Íâ©âąÌ©Ì©Í*ËïŒ
The day started bright and early, it just had been about every other day before, but this time you had begun to teach Jake Sullyâs kids.
Already diving in the water, you felt the cool water envelop you as you swam, your tail swishing to propel you further. You swam around coral reefs and among the fishes, Aonung following close by.
You stop and looked behind you to see the siblings on the surface. They glanced down and you could see Tsireya signing them to come swim with you.
Aonung stopped as well, looking at you to find you looking at them, while Rotxo, from beside him, looked at them too.
As they dove back down, you smile and continue swimming around. But they had to come up for air again as the four of you saw them reaching to the surface.
All of you looked at each other.
âWhatâs wrong with them?â Aonung signed.
âThey are bad diversâ Rotxo replied to him.
âStop thatâ you signed back. âTheyâre learningâ Tsireya added.
Aonung rolled his eyes but watched as Rotxo and Tsireya swam up.
You swim towards him, tilting your head. âGive them a chanceâ you signed. âCome on letâs go upâ You added.
Both of you swam to the surface beside one another.
You were about to talk when Aonung began âYou are not good divers, maybe good at swimming through treesââ
Turning towards him, you give him a light smack on the shoulder, making his smirk drop as he looks at you with a âWhat was that for?â look.
âCome on, bro.â The other sibling, who you learned was Loâak, said.
âWe donât speak this⊠finger talk you guys. We donât know what youâre saying.â Neteyam said.
âWe will teach you.â You say, Aonung looks at you before looking back at them.
ïŒ*âąÌ©Ì©Íâ©âąÌ©Ì©Í*Ë àȘàŹË*âąÌ©Ì©Íâ©âąÌ©Ì©Í*ËïŒ
After a few weeks, Aonung could notice the way Neteyam was always on you. And it was getting on his nerves. You, however, seemed clueless about it.
There were times when all of you were teaching them sign language, and when he failed to get it right, youâd assist him by having your hands on his. And with the way that the forest boy blushed had Aonung feeling annoyed.
He wanted to send a sign that you were already taken, that you were his. But at the same time, he didnât want to cause trouble if it included you.
So, he settled on subtle ways.
Heâd always make sure he was a little too close to you. He would then randomly talk to you, leaning his face closer to yours whenever they were around.
And he would be sure to often grab your arm or hand a few times to grab your attention from them.
But you werenât noticing these things he was doing. It made you blush and smile, sure, but you didnât know their true intentions. It made him look jealous, because he was. You were his, why canât he see that?
Even though when you both had free time you were always being pulled away from him by the Sullyâs, even Tsireya for Eywaâs sake! What has gotten into you two?
Even more, his actions didnât even seem to stop Neteyam from staring at you and taking the chance to talk with you when he wasnât around.
âThese are ilu. If you want to live here, you have to ride.â Aonung says, introducing the iluâs to the Sully kids.
You were there, standing, watching Aonung with love in your eyes, with the way he was acting the past few weeks had you feeling fuzzy.
Although you missed hanging out with him, considering you were always being pulled aside by Neteyam or even both you and Tsireya were being pulled aside by both Neteyam and Loâak.
At first it was asking for advice, then they started asking questions about yourselves and so on. You hadnât really given it much thought until Tsireya bought it up one afternoon.
After finishing the lesson, you and Tsireya were walking back to the village. â(Y/N), have you noticed the way Neteyam has been giving you heart eyes this whole time?â
You stopped, looking at her. âWait- What?â
âMy Eywa, you havenât noticed?â Tsireya gasps, looking at you. âNo- what? I thought he was just wanting to make friends.â
âMore than friends.â Tsireya corrected, laughing. You thought back, and it did seem so.
âAnd!â Tsireya says, grabbing onto your arm. âYou should see the look on Aonungâs face everytime he comes across Neteyam⊠or Loâak too for that matterâŠâ Tsireya concluded. âIt looks like he really hates them.â
Then you connected the dots. Maybe thatâs why Aonung was being clingy than before. He was jealous. He was almost subtly marking you as his, that you were taken.
Helping them get on their iluâs you watched Loâak speed off with his ilu, before letting go, sending him tumbling onto the water.
Aonung laughed beside you as you chuckled yourself. You then watched Neteyam carefully guiding his ilu around, with a smile on his face.
You feel an arm snake around your waist, looking up, you still see Aonung teasing Loâak. You smile to yourself at Aonungâs actions.
ïŒ*âąÌ©Ì©Íâ©âąÌ©Ì©Í*Ë àȘàŹË*âąÌ©Ì©Íâ©âąÌ©Ì©Í*ËïŒ
Then Aonung had enough.
âBack off. Now.â Neteyam pointed at Aonungâs chest as Aonung had decided to pick on his sister, Kiri, for being a freak.
Aonung still hadnât settled on accepting the Sully family as their own, he was being stubborn, and now this is where it got him.
Aonung only smirked at him, walking forward as Neteyamâs finger pressed even further on his chest.
âThen why wonât you back off my mate, huh?â He taunted. Although you werenât mates yet, he just had to do something to make Neteyam stop his moves on you.
Neteyam looked confused as he dropped the accusatory finger from his chest. âWhat do you mean?â
âSkxawng, Iâm talking about (Y/N). She doesnât want anything to do with you.â He shoved his chest back, making Neteyam stumble as Loâak intervened.
âWe didnât know, broââ
âMaybe this will let you know.â Aonung said, shoving Neteyam strongly this time. But Neteyam didnât back down as a fight began to break out between Neteyam, Loâak, and Aonungâs gang.
Tsireya and you were just walking when you began to hear a commotion.
âThe forest people and Aonung are fighting!â You heard one say.
Forest people⊠Aonung?
Quickly looking at each other, you and Tsireya broke off into a sprint to head towards them.
âAonung!â You said as the scene of Neteyam, Loâak, and Aonung and his friends were fighting welcomed your eyes.
The other people pulled Neteyam and Loâak out while Rotxo held Aonung back.
âWhatâs happening?â Tsireya asked.
âStay away.â Aonung said, pointing at Neteyam.
Your eyes widen, seeing a large bruise already forming on Aonungâs cheek as his bottom lip was busted open. You rushed towards him, cupping his cheek.
âEywa give me strengthâŠ. What did you do?â You say frantically.
You looked towards Neteyam and Loâak, then back at Aonung.
Neteyam saw how your face formed in worry as you rushed to Aonungâs aid. What Aonung said was true. You were with him and he was too dumb to see that. It made his chest ache, but he knew he was in the wrong. You were only helping him out.
And thatâs when the Sully brothers heard the voice of their father.
ïŒ*âąÌ©Ì©Íâ©âąÌ©Ì©Í*Ë àȘàŹË*âąÌ©Ì©Íâ©âąÌ©Ì©Í*ËïŒ
After that, the tension had died down. Neteyam and Aonung were able to set their differences, they became friends as well as with Loâak and their siblings.
Now you and Aonung were sat a rocky shore as you recalled what happened.
âSo, you really said I was your mate already?â You laugh.
âI- kinda⊠yeah.â Aonung sighs in defeat, and in embarrassment. âI figured saying that might finally knock some sense into him.â
âMhm even though weâre not mates.â
âI know, Iâm sorry forââ
âBut I guess we can change that, can we?â You smile up at him.
Aonung then snaps his gaze back to you, confusion etched all over him.
âWhat do you mean?â
Pulling him to peck his lips, you held his cheeks.
âAonung, I am more than happy to become your mate.â
And the wide smile that crossed his lips was truly a sight to see.
My family is all in those mountains of East TN. I got married in those mountains in East TN. I've driven those back roads and ran through fields in the summer heat chasing fireflies. I've watched the sun rise and set over the vast peaks in the distance and I've smelled the thunderstorms that roll in the late afternoon sky. The fear, the unknowing. I'm thankful my family made it out alive, but the families that didn't don't deserve the hate for "not being prepared" or because of their state color is stupid and barbaric because how do you prepare for something like flooding in the mountains, the land slides, the no warning. Children ripped from their parents, grandparents who were raised on that land just like their parents before them and suddenly it's all gone under mud, rubble and fast moving water. People need help, people are missing and currently dying but hey, when you're nustled in your cozy bed with warm water and all the food you could eat, why bother to see the other side.
Iâm from the south and I have family who live in Appalachia. While my family out there wasnât within the zone of the damage caused by hurricane helene, their homes were decimated by another natural disaster a couple of years ago.
The response to their suffering then is the same as it is now, to the victims of Helene. That somehow, they deserved it, because they live in an area that votes red, or maybe vote red themselves.
This is elitist and classist bullshit and itâs fucking disgusting. Any person who claims to want a world in which we establish self-sustaining communities who, in the same breath, condemns people to death is not the progressive they tout themselves to be. They are vile and cruel.
You do not get to speak on Appalachiaâs voting patterns if you do not understand the history and context that created it. You do not get to wish death upon hundreds or thousands of children or disabled persons or any marginalized community simply because they happened to be born in an area youâve written off as irredeemable. You do not get to cower behind the generalizations you make about an entire region simply because its poverty and disenfranchisement make you uncomfortable.
I am so, so sick of coastal liberals speaking on the South/Appalachia when they have neither the interest nor desire to help the people here. Who seek only to condescend and then have the gall to act confused why they wonât side with the very people who tell them they deserve to lose their homes, their families, their lives, because they donât vote for certain candidates. If you canât be fucked to learn the first thing about the area, keep its people out of your mouth.
Clouds of Rain
Neteyam X F!Reader
Part 3 of Clouds Series
Summary: Everyday you and Neteyam get closer, but now he's seen a side you want to hide
Warning: Toxic parents, a little angst, fluff moments between Neteyam and Reader, Neteyam and Reader are eyeing eachother đâ€ïž
When the day had started, distant sounds of thunder echoed around the forest. Shadows crept across the moss covered floor as a storm rolled in. Many Na'vi relished in the rain, the prosperity it brought to the food and animals almost seemed mystical, but to you it brought a sorrow.
You weren't allowed out of your families tent on stormy days, even though you were seen as a grown adult, you were unmated, uncourted, so therefore, still a child in your parents eyes.
You longed for the sunshine and blue skies, but Eywa seemed to want a day of rest and restoring water to the cycle of life. "(Y/N)! Come here at once!" Your mother's voice cut through your day dream as you stared out into the vast mist of rain in the distance.
You stood from your position and walked with small steps to your mother. Your youngest sibling, a boy the age of three, sat in her lap fast asleep. You wished you could curl up like that, remembering the days she would coo at you and kiss you sweetly, that changed when more siblings came along and suddenly you couldn't do anything right in her eyes.
Kneeling in front of her, she spoke,"You are to go get us some fruit from the gathering circle, be quick, you are to come straight back, do you understand," her tone left no answer needed, it was a demand.
You nodded, going to stand but her hand tightly grapsed your wrist, pulling you back around to face her, her dull yellow eyes hard. "Answer me girl!" "Yes mama," you quietly spoke, eyes meeting her face but not her eyes, she hated when you looked at her in the eyes.
Releasing you, she waved you off and you quickly turned and hurried out. It wasn't usual for Na'vi to be abusive to their children, yet it wasn't unheard of. Your parents just happened to check every mark there was, verbal, emotional, mental, and physical. It just depended on their mood of the day to determine how your day would end.
Reaching the gathering circle, you picked the nicest looking fruit that you hoped would appease her rath, you began to walk back with it bundled in your arms, only to run smack into another person.
The fruit got squashed between both bodies, the juice sticking to your arms, chest and stomach, your mouth slightly open in shock. That was unexpected, but then again you were rushing with your head down.
"Oh Great Mother, I'm sorry!" Neteyams voice made you jolt up to meet his eyes, his face worried as he realized he ran into you. Just another foolish episode it seemed.
"(Y/n)! I'm so sorry, let me help you," Neteyam reached down to grab the fruit, but it unsavable at that point. You covered your mouth with a soft laugh, not wanting to upset the man in his rush to help you.
"Its alright Neteyam, no harm done," you assured, a smile gracing your lips. Neteyam was a light in your gray world, he could do no wrong in your eyes. The thought of the fruit left your mind, now focused solely on spending time with Neteyam.
"Come," you helped him up, his words stumbling over each other as he tried to figure out how to help, "B-but your fruit? Let me, let me help," you shook your head, waving it off, "There will be more fruit, but let's go get washed up," he let you drag him away, the fruit left forgotten on the floor.
Mother would not be happy later.
~.~
Laughing as you two walked up the edge of the village where vases of water sat, you let go and approached the water. Cupping your hands together, bringing the cool water to your face and neck, you breathed in a sigh of relief and shut your eyes, the water doing good to help rid the sticky fruit and seeds that stuck to your skin.
Neteyam allowed his eyes to trace over each water droplet that ran down your soft skin, going where only his eyes could imagine and where he wished he could touch too. Oh to be envious of water.
"Aren't you going to wash up?" Your soft voice broke his concentration, eyes looking to your face and seeing your glowing green eyes staring at him with your eyelids lowered, a look you weren't trying to give him but his thoughts quickly wondered and this caused him to rush forward, almost dunking his head into the water to cool himself off.
You giggled, having noticed his look from before and allowed your own eyes to slowly rake over his flushed body. His years of training doing wonders for him, the muscle and strength he held made your tail flick a few times before you willed it to stop and wrap around your leg.
"I am sorry, for ruining your fruit," Neteyam wiped his face of water, looking down at you though you smiled.
That pretty smile made him weak.
"Its alright, there will be more fruit later," you looked up at him, "let me make it up to you," he offered, though you grew confused. How would he make it up to you? Why did he feel the need? It was only a few pieces of fruit, surely you could replace it on your own.
"Oh? How?" You asked, arms crossing and staring at him intrigued, your hip jutting out a little causing him to gulp, trying to focus back on you as a whole.
"That's for me to worry about, now, let's go grab you some more fruit," he placed a small kiss to your head as he walked by, your face flushing as you trailed after him.
It was true you had kissed him before, a few weeks ago before he took you flying on his Ikran, but since then it had only been longing stares and a few light touches. A whisper here and there in the others ear, both of you too scared to ruin what you had going on. Scared that your realities would be crushed by the world if the true feelings were spoken out into the air.
~.~
Arriving back at the gathering circle, Neteyam grabbed new fruit to replace the ones he messed up, placing only one in your arms and he carried the rest.
"Oh no, Neteyam I can carry It really," you begged, not wanting him to follow you home. Not to the horrors that may await you. "Nonsense, allow me to help you, it was my fault," he grinned, not picking up on your worried tone.
It seemed he didn't have to, for your father's voice cut throught the air like a knife. "(Y/n)!" His deep, growl like voice caused you to freeze, Neteyam frowning when he saw the fear plaster on your now pale face. His eyes glanced behind you where two figures were appearing.
"Papa," you greeted, turning where the tall, brooding Na'vi man stood. He was one of the best hunters in the clan, your younger brother, only three years younger than you, trailing behind him with a small, smug look.
Your brother quite enjoyed when you got in trouble, but that's only because he himself didn't have to bare your father and mother's disapproving gaze.
"What are you doing? Your mother has been waiting and here you are, goofing off and laying around like you always do," Your fathers eyes made you shrink, head down into your shoulders hoping to disappear.
Neteyam placed himself between you both, chest puffing up to match your father. He didn't like how dull your eyes got, he hated how you tried to shrink instead of stand tall. "The fault is mine, sir, take it up with me. Leave your daughter out of this," Neteyam hissed, his tail lashing at the thought of what this man would say or do to you, his own child.
Your Father seemed to realize who he now faced, eyes narrowing suspiciously as they darted between Toruk Maktos oldest son, the future leader of the clan and his own child, his only daughter and oldest child.
The way the young man stood in front of you, challenging him to dare say another word had your father ask,"Who are you to tell me how to talk to my daughter? Have you courted her, mated with her," he knew the answer, but your father wanted to prove a point.
"No sir, but the fault is mine. I caused her to drop fruit and helped to clean her up, so any qualms you have you can deal them with me right now," Neteyam promised, knowing that the fact you two really weren't together stung, but he would defend you no matter what. He loved you that much.
It seemed as though Eywa had a saving grace, his own father, Jake Sully, appeared. "What's going on here?" Jake looked narrow eyed to the hunter in front of him, he knew (F/N) well, the man was very strict and harsh, but one of the best hunters to the clan.
You rushed forward, tired of all the arguing and not wanting a whole fight to break out. "Neteyam was helping me with fruit, I was clumsy and dropped it," you spazzed through your words, not turning to meet either Sully mens eyes behind you, focusing on your father instead, scared of what he would say more or do.
"I'm sorry Papa, I will be more careful from now on," Your father didn't want to cause a bigger scene infront of his Olo'eyktan, so he called for your brother to take the fruit who glared at you as if you had asked him instead of your father. "We will speak at home," your father leaned down close and threatened, eyes of green, though darker than your own, stared right through you. His words a silent threat that more than talking will be done at home.
"Yes Papa," you submitted, ears pulled back in fear and humiliation. Fear of what your father would do. Humiliation that Neteyam had to witness you like this.
Your Father and brother stomped away, your shoulders tense as you turned to see both men staring at you sadly.
"Thank you for helping me Neteyam, I'll see you around," you hurried out, words like mush as you trailed off into the direction your family had gone to.
"(Y/n)-" Neteyam reached out, but his father's hand on his shoulder stopped him, a huff of defeat in his lips as you disappeared from view.
"Give her some space, (F/n) is not one to mess with, getting her in more trouble may not be a wise case," Jake instructed, Neteyam clicking his tongue in annoyance and anger.
"(Y/n) shouldn't be suffering with them! It was my fault that the fruit fell, she shouldn't have to pay for that," he felt himself become hostile every second that passed, now beginning to pace in front of his father.
"(Y/n) deserves to be free! She is a grown woman, not a pet or a child!" He cried, Neteyam turning his body, eyes gazing after your invisible figure one last time.
"She so gentle, I want to watch her float on the clouds, not be tied down," Neteyam whispered.
