There honestly isn't too much to say about this, like Jersey was a slight scene kid in the early 2000s and basically DIY'ed everything he is wearing, did I make it obvious enough that he is a Devils fan?
The red and green is a heavy call back to the original jerseys the Devils used, which I lovingly call the Christmas Jerseys, and clearly I went VERY heavy with that lol
The other side of the hat has a Rutgers patch instead of the Devils one you can see, this would have been when the Rutgers football team was doing pretty good I think soooo ya know, I felt it was important to mention.

Just imagine, it’s 2am, your just going into the kitchen to grab something to drink before going back to or going to bed. You enter the kitchen and see Jersey and idk Loui maybe, just talking, ‘cept Jersey is straight up speaking tongues and Loui is acting like he understands what is being said (he doesn’t). Just slowly back away without being noticed and decide to never go into the kitchen again at night.
Meanwhile Jersey was just talking about how the strawberry poptart ia aids and the cookies and cream one is the best, looking like absolute death cause of how exhausted he is lol (he is not responsible for whatever he says when tired, it’s nearly started multiple wars at once so when he is tired the states just take whatever he says with a grain of salt smaller than an atom)
Yesyes he loves his babyes and whenever someone even thinks about trying to tell him otherwise…well…they don’t 😊

Jersey: Defense, left-wing
New York: Forward, center
Massachusetts: Forward, right-wing
Connecticut: Defense, right-wing (doesn’t play anymore)
Pennsylvania: Forward, center
Gov: Defense, left-wing (barely has anytime to play but tries to when he can)
Rhode: Defense, right-wing
North Carolina: Forward, left-wing
South Carolina: Defense, right-wing
Alabama: Forward, center (only plays roller hockey, college football offseason)

I feel like most of these are self explanatory, like NY Jersey and other NE states, but others I may have to explain I think...oops?
Okay so, the Carolinas playing isn't really THAT surprising, they have a team (I don't know which state the team belongs too and I am perfectly fine not knowing lol), same with Tennessee, Arizona, Colorado, Minnesota, and Missouri.
Now Alabama on the other hand, football offseason, literally only roller hockey, besides ya know...violence. Hockey can be a very southern sport when you think about it.
Gov plays because once again, North East, but also because I have a feeling he would be very into the Washington Capitals. It isn't like he gets the chance to play often but when it's a slow winter day he can and will go and play on a lake somewhere with the NE states.
Connecticut doesn't play anymore because he is dramatic (RIP the Whalers, you will be missed until Carolina pulls out the jerseys again), and probably because of injuries or something, he's mainly just dramatic.
Anyway won't lie, this list is mainly off of vibes and whether or not they have a team. For example, California has three teams and yet it is impossible for me to see that man play any sport except maybe beach volleyball. Meanwhile Rhodey is on here and yet he doesn't have a team, I can just see him using hockey as a way to remove stress, it's therapy but WAAYYY more expensive.

Listen I ain’t gonna say that pollution is a problem, but I am going to say that we got so FUCKED by the Canadian wild fires, like it was real bad air and stuff. So when in doubt, blame Canada (or the West when that’s all on fire, seriously it allll just comes over here).
Wasn’t alive but 2001 sucked for like everyone duh, the sad thing is that a lot of people who died were from NJ, since a ton of people commute to NY. Obvi a ton more New Yorkens died that day but a shit ton of Jersians did as well….so you know…something something angst.
Also yes the forest one totally counts as angst, the woods aren’t obviously dangerous here since we only have Forest Puppies™️ and like foxes and coyotes, but lemme tell ya, them woods not only definitely haunted but there is probably people doing the big illegals out there. Like moonshiners or…idk cultests probably, that’s also ignoring the actually legal hunting lol.

Idk if this counts as angst, but here’s a random hc: So like- NJ loves plants and nature and all that, so he also knows what herbs and weeds are good and that bring good health and could even help infected wounds. He also found this out from the amount of times he fcked off into the woods all alone and got hurt somehow.

Anyway, I had an original design for this type of look on the Ipad, ended up not looking at it once since I apparently have memory. Kinda glad I didn't since I could go just by memory and figure it out as I went along ya know. (ps, for those who don't normally read tags just like, please do, i put so many lil things in there lolz)
Okay SO, I have this lil headcanon, nothin big, that Jersey didn't used to wear shorts until like 2000 or something, maybe a bit before then. This is because he has some scars on his legs, just from over the years, and wearing shorts not only shows those but also make it easier for him to get scrapes and such.
He was fine wearing shorts around NY, Del, and Rhode, occasionally Mass as well if he happened to be around at the time. He couldn't wear them around anyone else for a long time, some scars had Memories(tm) attached to them, some good most bad, so he just never wore shorts.
He's gotten a lot more comfortable wearing them around the other states over the years, mainly because of Covid where Mass unfortunately wouldn't let him keep wearing the same two pairs of pants. So he's fine now, if still a lil uncomfortable around some states (the west mainly), you just won't see him wearing them until it's the first day over 60 in state.
Anyway I love NJ but this isn't surprising, I live here. I am NOT a simp for this bitch, he's my state, I have to like him, 'sides who else would I attach to? Pennsylvania? Florida? Or god forbid NEW YORK!? Absolutely not, that's sacrilegious that is.

This idea came to me while I was listening to the Annapantsu cover and I just knew, I had too. Also I'm pretty sure this is the first time those of the tumblr space are seeing my Kentucky and Tennessee designs, I've drawn them twice now but nothing actually posted here lol.
Anyway I HC that Tucky and Jersey hang out a lot, originally only talking with each other because of their shared occupation horses but then they actually started to talk about other things and found that they actually got along. It's no secret to anyone that Jersey's lil demon guy loves Tucky, plus it is just adorable so I had to draw it again.
Tucky and Tenn are technically related but it's kinda hard to see here, maybe one day I'll post the headshots for them. Also I love Tucky's design, I need to draw him more, I made him so cute gosh darn it!!
Also also, if it's hard to tell they are listen to music on the same ear buds connected to an Ipod, don't question whos Ipod it is because they have no idea at this point XD

I can absolutely see him sobbing if one of his favorite plants die, like there isn't perfect weather to revive it, like he isn't the garden state where literally anything is possible. He will sob and he will do it in front of the other states, he doesn't care if it's "not manly" or "weak" of him, that was his baby damn it!!
The thing with the smell is that it's only the turnpike and really only centered around the Newark area, it honestly isn't noticeable at all once your literally anywhere else (except the swamps going down the shore specifically to WildWood, then it's sorta bad cause it's a fishin area)
Listen he may be very smart (NJ has basically the best educational system in the country) but that doesn't mean he is when it involves him, why keep dirt on himself when he can focus that on others. It does have the downside where he kinda just...forgets certain things, like he is way stronger than he should be and that no it isn't normal to be that obsessed with diners.
(Must say in some weird way this has made me feel better, maybe it's the fact I live here idk lolz)

…..imagine if NJ coughs up flower petals and blood sometimes and has a few other issues due to the pollution being so bad there.

He’s kinda insecure about the fact that he doesn’t really have a pleasant smell (I’ve been in Jersey once and it wasn’t too bad actually lmao) due to the state itself not really having a pleasant smell
I feel like he gets really really sad whenever a plant dies, especially if he put a lot of effort into trying to help it survive.
He often forgets his own strength and the fact that he’s absolutely jacked and ends up accidentally hurting the other states pretty often.
This was just a random idea I had. In my brain Central Jersey is the Jersey that shows the most, problem is is since CJ is so...let's go with disconnected, with the rest of the country he gets overwhelmed, and sure North could just switch in and South could do the same if they all wanted to scare the others with a southern accent that has the slang of the California coast, but watching a place that doesn't exist (it totally does btw) is way funnier.
Besides, by now all the other states that aren't the OG13 think that New Jersey has brown-looks red in certain light-eyes and it would scare the devil out of 'em if they see the red eyes that North actually has (and considering it's HIS body, it is far to tempting).
Also is it obvious that I love the idea that it's the Jersey's and not just Jersey, like I live here, if it's one singular state then I'm from Pennsylvania (I may have been born there but I sure as heaven ain't from there). Jersey would be three different states if we wanted to be associated with the rest of the country more than we already are, that and we may not agree on things but we don't HATE each other, we leave that for the rest of the country (plus let's be real, central wouldn't exist and then what would north and south argue about?)
Anyway as a proud Centralian looking at the news of the rest of the country is overwhelming, I just want to go skating, to the arcade, and continue lovin our favorite Devil, and down the shore when it's nice (and no, down don't mean literally down, though normally we are going down).
Look at him!!! THIS IS MY BOY!!!!! I am a PROUD Centralian and I would be DAMNED if I didn't draw him with animals. You would be surprised at how many of these I have actually seen or heard about being near by.
(Also yes that is a Gator, we don't natively have them but there was one here for like 2 weeks, still surprised he was in central and not the swamps down south because...actually I feel like that's obvious)

Hiii, I am so sorry that this is so late, I really wanted to answer it earlier but I had to sleep to go skating and then I couldn't really think of headcanons for the ships that I think are cute.
BUT I do sorta have ships, like ColoVada is really cute and I can get behind it, same with CaliYork, it's real cute and I will read stuff for it. I also like JerseyVada mainly because of the casino/gambling rivalry that existed back in the day.
Unfortunately I don't really have any headcanons which was the main reason this took so long like I said, I didn't want this ask to just float in the void for a long time. So really sorry :/

As a guy with curly hair most times, humidity is such a bitch and happens whenever it feels like here in Jersey, no consistency. So this hit close to home lol.
Hot and Humid (The Worst Combo)
Every door in the state house was open, along with the windows. The Southern States were out barbecuing and the Northern States were suffering, except New Jersey.
It’s not like Jersey liked the heat, it was a pain in the ass, but it did mean he could go swimming and get good southern food, so he can’t complain too much. The problem was the humidity, it was ungodly humid out. Jersey knew humid intimately but this was ridiculous.
Almost every state was either in the pool or on the side relaxing or barbecuing. Almost. The only state that wasn’t with everyone was Louisiana, which Jersey would understand if it wasn’t for the fact that this is weather Loui would absolutely be in.
Jersey was about to go inside to find him when his name was called. Standing in the doorway was Loui, his hair frizzy and messy, looking just as miserable as most of the NE states felt.
Louisiana only had to say one word and Jersey would be at his beck and call. “Help”.
Jersey dragged Loui to his(Jersey's) room, looking at what products he had that could work, he realized he was severely lacking and would need to get more stuff again. He gave Loui a juice box and the tv remote and got to work.
Hair was hard, especially curly hair, it’s hard and annoying at the best of times and at the worst it’s near impossible. Jersey was basically an expert in all things hair but he was definitely wishing that Loui had come to him in the early morning before the humidity got too bad.
It took two hours but Jersey was able to put Loui’s hair into cornrows, that way if he wanted he could go swimming with the others. By the time the two got back outside some of the food was ready and it somehow got hotter and more humid, but at least now Loui’s hair wasn’t a mess.
(And if there was some magic involved to make sure his hair didn’t get affected by the humidity again, then that was between him and the demon he calls his friend).

NJ is strangely really good with hair. And that goes for literally every hair type. Unruly and ruined by bleach like Florida’s? Easy. Wavy and incredibly messy like Texas’s? No problem. Louisiana on the verge of tears cuz his curly ass mess of hair got tangled in the humidity of the summertime and he’s only hurting himself more by trying to brush it? No problemo, NJ will gently and delicately Dutch braid it.
