hallelujah, I finally visited the gorgeous, gorgeous grand canyon on the south rim and it is... phenomenal. me and a stranger teared up and it was a real human moment.

the trip back home was just as fun as the trip itself. buying $1 scratch-offs, a pretty big drink, and beef jerky: the best american experience.

• albuquerque, nm

gathering of nations was a surreal experience. I don't think I've been around so many other natives in my life, and that includes northern and aboriginal natives! it is an unforgettable experience. also knowing I was in the same room as northern cree and young spirit makes me fangirl embarrassingly.

• pueblo acoma, nm

on our way to albuquerque, we were able to tour the beautiful sky city in the mesa! acoma natives have lived in the mesa for over 2000 years. I'm still so amazed by that.

• culiacan, sinaloa

we made it after 24+ hours on the road [distant sobbing noises]! I've met family members for the first time, had the best seafood of my life, and had some mexican starbucks (minus the lack of ethics)! if you want to try mexican food, if you like shrimp, and you like spicy stuff, please try aguachile.

I was fighting for my life trying to get a car permit here but we are back on the road and daydreaming about vaqueros!
