When I say lacrosse one of two different sports must pop into your head. And I do mean two DIFFERENT sports.
Men's Lacrosse (implies exclusive to men)
Or
Women's Lacrosse (implies exclusive to women)
Although they look similar - wait, they don't even look similar - they are quite different.
The rules are different, the sticks are different, and the protective equipment are different. The rules alone being different is enough to determine that these are two separate types of games.
This would be perfectly fine and all if the names didn't automatic segregate by sex.
When a girl says, "I play lacrosse," you picture a complete different thing than when a guy says the same thing.
If a girl plays lacrosse it will always be implied she's playing women's lacrosse.
If a boy says he's playing lacrosse it will always be implied he's playing men's lacrosse.
Sure, there are those rare exceptions, such as a girl who plays on a men's lacrosse team or vice versa, but it shouldn't have to be that way. It shouldn't have to be considered an exception.
Girls and guys are discouraged from playing "the other gender's" lacrosse just because of the name.
No other sport does this (at least not to such a drastic extent (think ice hockey)).
If a girl says she's playing football, she's playing football.
If a boy says he's playing softball, he's playing softball.
For softball and football, society is who determines wether it is a "men's sport" or a "women's sport," not the fucking name. Even then, at least women are still welcomed to play on a women's league and guys are welcomed to play softball on a men's league.
The same cannot be said about lacrosse.
Don't get me wrong, I think both men's and women's lacrosse are great sports. I'm not saying we should get rid of one or the other. All I want to propose is a name change. That single change could solve this whole problem despite how challenging it may seem.
Call the sports different names because that is what they deserve.
Finally, not to be cliche, but it's 2018 (almost 2019!) so doesn't this whole men's/women's thing seem a bit old fashioned? Plus what if you're non-binary? Then are you welcomed to choose? Or are you just not welcomed to any?
Sports are fun and should never be limited to any single group of people as long as there is a means to play.
If you have any input or comment whether pro or against my opinion feel free to add to the discussion!

Since the first airplane took flight over 100 years ago, virtually every aircraft in the sky has flown with the help of moving parts such as propellers, turbine blades, and fans, which are powered by the combustion of fossil fuels or by battery packs that produce a persistent, whining buzz.
Now MIT engineers have built and flown the first-ever plane with no moving parts. Instead of propellers or turbines, the light aircraft is powered by an “ionic wind” – a silent but mighty flow of ions that is produced aboard the plane, and that generates enough thrust to propel the plane over a sustained, steady flight.
Unlike turbine-powered planes, the aircraft does not depend on fossil fuels to fly. And unlike propeller-driven drones, the new design is completely silent.
“This is the first-ever sustained flight of a plane with no moving parts in the propulsion system,” says Steven Barrett, associate professor of aeronautics and astronautics at MIT. “This has potentially opened new and unexplored possibilities for aircraft which are quieter, mechanically simpler, and do not emit combustion emissions.”
He expects that in the near-term, such ion wind propulsion systems could be used to fly less noisy drones. Further out, he envisions ion propulsion paired with more conventional combustion systems to create more fuel-efficient, hybrid passenger planes and other large aircraft.
Barrett and his team at MIT have published their results in the journal Nature.

I'm kinda sad to be going off to college, but I keep reminding my self that if Zach and Cody were capable of moving way from home at 14, then I should definitely be able to do that at 18.

Hi, so I'm sure you have heard by now that Venezuela is in an uncomfortable position. There have been and immense amount of stories in the new of children starving to death and people getting killed due to their corrupt government. Many companies are leaving and people are fleeing to surrounding countries to find better living conditions.
I've recently spent the past week on the boarder of Colombia and Venezuela on vacation and saw first hand some of the lengths Venezuelans are going to just to get supplies they need to live.
Port towns all along the Colombian side of the Orinoco River are crowded with Venezuelans, purses full of what ever cash they can get their hands on desperate to buy what they can't get back home. Big lines of people carrying diapers, tires, baby formula, food, medicine, cleaning supplies, etc. form to get on boat to cross the river. Makeshift stands where people can exchange bolivares and pesos line the side walks.
Guys, these people litterally have to go to a different country just to buy DIAPERS.
Boat carrying people from Venezuela to Colombia
Venezuelans waiting inline with supplies to get on a boat back to Venezuela.
Let me get something out of the way, I'm am by no means an expert on what is going on in Venezuela. All I know is that things could be better and people need help. If you know better or have any stories you want to share please do so.
Some dude asked to help me carry some bags and I told him, "No, I'm fine, thanks." He kept asking so I was about to hand him a bag, but then he went on to say, "Men need to help Women." Nope! He lost his chance. I don't need a MAN to help me with something I can do myself. Especially not because I am a WOMAN. My grandma (who I was with at the time) tried to excuse his statement by saying the male person was just trying to use manners, but I won't stand for it. Saying it's "manners" just prevents us from acknowledging that statements like that make it okay to make women sound/feel inferior.
No need to be passive aggressive and secretly hate each other. Just pure open mutual hate which makes everyone around us take sides or feel uncomfortable.
Mom: what do you on your phone all day???
What I say: uhhh, movies, YouTube, New York Time Crosswords...? Yeaaah, that.
What I mean: Fanfiction.
I hate how everyone seems to have such high expectations for me, but the second I want something a little out of the ordinary for my life they act like I've lost my mind....
Sigh.

^^^^ I didn't know this!
BUY JANSPORT BACKPACKS.
OR USE YOUR JANSPORT BACKPACK IF YOU HAVE ONE ALREADY.
Why?
Because once that backpack falls apart (i.e. a zipper breaks), you can just mail it to Jansport and they will send you a brand new one. No proof of purchase needed, and it’s free. You can use one Jansport backpack to get you through your whole freaking life.
They ain’t even paying me to say this. I was just so impressed with their customer service and exchange policy that I had to share.
If peanut oil is from peanuts,
canola oil is from canolas,
And olive oil is from olives,
Where does baby oil come from?
I had been staring at this pigeon on my balcony for ten minutes trying to determine whether pigeons are dumb or secretly the wisest animals on our planet.
Then it turned its head 180°, looked me straight in the eyes, and wispered (wispered!) in the most clearest Australian accent I've ever heard, "Zoo wee mama." At that moment I knew.
Remember, if you keep pulling, today you have the best hair you will ever have.
I just saw a bull get stabbed to death for entertainment and I am traumatized.
Me: what does "dress like a girl" even mean?
Also Me: Hey [ma shopping pal], I think the women's clothes are on that side of the store.
Just a thought 🤷
- The constant worrying that you'll make yourself go bald.
- Confused why you starting pulling your hair out in the first place.
- Being in public (or even just by yourself) and resisting the urge to put your hands on your scalp.
- That awkward moment when someone catches you pulling.
- Stratigically planning hairstyles to hide possible bald spots.
- Wanting to go to the hair salon but having the constant fear that the person working with your hair will notice.
- Not pulling for a long period of time, and you realize you haven't pulled which makes you think of pulling and you suddenly do it with out thinking and you hate yourself.
- Intense feeling of guilt and hatred after pulling.
- Finally getting the courage to tell a doctor but them telling you they can't do anything about it.
- Sitting in class and fearing that the person behind you might be looking at your hair and knows.
- Not seeing/feeling any bald spots in a certain location, so subconsciously letting that be a reason why it will be okay if you pull more there.
- Getting ingrown hairs on your scalp
- Wanting nothing more some moments than to just yank all your hair out.
- Wanting to stop pulling, but remembering that you've been doing it since elementary school so maybe there is no hope?
- Writing that you have trich online and getting the feeling they'll assume you're some grotesque bald creature when you're not. You're just another sensational human with the tendency to pull your hair out.
- Hair is everywhere on the floor of your room and it is gross
- Disgusting yourself.
- Keeping it a secret from everyone.
- Feeling embarrassed at just the thought of it.
- Dreaming about life without it.
- Nobody seems to understand.
- 'Why can't I stop??????'
- 'I hate my hair.'
- Seeing photos of bad trich cases online and fear that that will be you someday.
- Family or friends (who know) tell you to stop and you dont know how to respond because you've been telling yourself to stop ever since you've started and it's not that easy.
- Wanting someone to talk to about it but also not wanting to talk about it.
-Not knowing how to stop.
I mean, it could be worse. At least we're alive.
