When I started to post my fics for this ship, only 4 works existed for them on Ao3 (and the relationship tag was wrongly named, it took a 2 months fight with the support to correct it), so I never expected I will ever get to see this đŸ„°đŸ„°

When I Started To Post My Fics For This Ship, Only 4 Works Existed For Them On Ao3 (and The Relationship

I am really happy (even if 189 from these are mine, but I will be always ready to shower my ship with love. They are a great and underrated pairing ❀❀ I still have a lot of fic ideas for them, AUs to explore and a longfic in progress)

After letting it sink, I finally decided to write my little, not-so-professional review about the Sherlock & Co. Milverton adaptation. (Yes, this is one of my non-Moriarty the Patriot focused posts - but a Milverton fan gotta do what a Milverton fan's gotta do. Anyway.) SPOILERS!

Milverton here has a news agency and now he blackmails an activist, Evan Brackwell with the photos that his daughter made who took pictures about herself lying naked on a conservative politician's grave in the cemetery. Evan Brackwell ends at Sherlock and asks him to solve the case.

Milverton's character. He was decently played here, I've seen better Milvertons but he did the job here, too. He was slimy enough, but maybe he should have bathed in his own sliminess more. (Tho, when he joked on his "devilishly handsome face" - that's something Moriarty the Patriot Milverton should have said, and I am hella sure I used this in fanfics before) Still, I am only nitpicking here. Milverton was fine. And I really love that he got connected to the media world again, hacking and storing information, even using deepfakes sometimes to create blackmail material. A modern era Milverton is really terrifying.

The negotiation scene. It happens in a bar and ends with a punch in Milverton's face. (Well, John wanted to use the chair in the canon as well, sooo...) I've seen the negotiation scene better too, but my main problem was that it should have been longer. Sherlock already broke in to Milverton's house and Milverton knows about that, he even mentions it. (Idk why, it must be my cursed shippy brain what is rotten since I first thought of a Milverton/Sherlock when I was a child, but talking about that break-in felt like a drunken lovers' quarrel) I love that Milverton is totally fine with the role of the "slithering serpent", he even ends up calling himself like that. And it's also good that Sherlock didn't miss saying the "Do you feel the creeping, shrinking sensation when you stand before the serpents in the zoo..." speech. A Milverton adaptation without it always feel like they miss out something important.

And now we get to the best part - the other break-in. Usually, the negotiation scene is my favourite, but here, it is the break-in. It was mindblowing and hilarious. Everyone wants to rob Milverton on that night. Sherlock and John is disturbed by Milverton and Irene Adler who comes back from the opera. Milverton seems to be actually into Irene Adler (okay, who wouldn't be into Irene Adler?). Milverton has a drive full of information on Moriarty, Irene wants that. She stabs Milverton in the stomach, takes the drive and calls the ambulance out to him while John and Sherlock listens from the wardrobe. I still don't know how to feel about the stabbing, honestly. I don't like when Irene ends up being a criminal (hi, BBC Sherlock), I would have felt better if she just knocks Milverton out. (By the way, this is not the first time Irene and Milverton are somehow connected, see Kabukichou Sherlock.) But thanks to that stab, I got the most hilarious scene I've ever seen in a Milverton adaptation - John insists that he will go and give Milverton medical help and even makes Sherlock help. Here, John really feels like a doctor, not letting anyone to just bleed out, even if that one is Milverton, someone he hates. (And John calling Milverton Charles to somehow calm him down - that made me wanting to ship Milverton/Watson. If a fanfic happens from it, humanity, please, forgive me.) John and Sherlock leaves, Milverton is on his own, waiting for the ambulance and there comes Moriarty to kill him. (I said that everyone wants to break in on that night, they didn't want to throw a Milverton is dead afterparty?) Milverton calls Moriarty James before he dies. So they are on first person terms. That's the second thing I don't know how to feel about. I don't like Milverton and Moriarty getting connected, Milverton is threatening on his own, he doesn't need Moriarty's back up. (And I am that one Sherlock Holmes fan who was never a fan of Professor Moriarty's character in the canon. At least, the one thing I absolutely LOATHE in a Milverton adaptation didn't happen - Sherlock killing Milverton. That is always so lame.)

With all the nitpicking I have, I really loved this adaptation. I think the Sherlock & Co. one is my favourite from the Adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton re-tellings (the less faithful adaptations, like BBC Sherlock, Elementary, Moriarty the Patriot, Kabukichou Sherlock etc). I will definitely listen it again in the future.

I re-read White Knight (again. That's the one arc I always re-read) and I was always a bit sad that we didn't see Whiteley grieving Marcus longer. Like, I get that the biggest tragedy was his brother's death, but Whiteley and Marcus also had a special bond. I loved their interactions and really, I wished if we could get a little more time for Whiteley staying with Marcus in the end.

also: real question genuine question did anyone else have the childhood experience of being convinced you had to be romantically attracted to a boy not for "fitting in"/"being normal" etc reasons but because that was how all the stories went for girls and you thought you were a girl, and therefore developed an almost compulsive habit of trying to slot every interaction with a boy into Good Romance/Bad Romance and overanalyzing everything you felt and everything they did, which ended up in thoughts like "oh wow he's wearing a blue necklace today and i have a blue bracelet somewhere in my possession we must be soulmates and have a happily ever after" (referring to someone you were not attracted to whatsoever), making mundane existence into a frantic scramble for True Love in every single corner of life, or was it literally just me and misa amane

Death Note — Interpreting the Foot Scene

So, since I’ve never actually seen an in-depth meta on the foot scene, I thought this needs to happen. :) [read on ao3]

The Foot Scene

[Watch here] L and Light come inside from the rain, and Light sits on the stairs, his shoes sitting next to him on the ground. L stands to the side, with a towel on his head.

L: (walking over) Well, that was certainly an unpleasant outing. Light: (drying off his hair) It’s your own fault. I mean, what did you expect? L: (offscreen) You’re right. I’m sorry. (L takes the towel off of his head and walks closer. Light is still drying his hair and face, but then startles. You then see that L has crouched by Light’s feet and is holding one of Light’s feet in his hand.) Light: What are you doing? L: (looking up at him) I thought I might help you out. You were busy wiping yourself off anyway. Light: Look, it—it’s fine, you don’t have to do that. L: I can give you a massage as well. (Light looks startled) L: (offscreen, continued) It’s the least I can do to atone for my sins. I’m actually pretty good at this. (Light glances away, looking resigned) Light: Fine, do what you want. L: (offscreen, in tones of someone getting down to business) All right. (Now you see L, looking pensive. He brings his hand, holding the towel, up to Light’s foot. Light makes a pained noise and the scene cuts to a wide shot.) Light: Hey! L: You’ll get used to it. (Light, in a close-up, looks utterly thrown, but makes a small noise of assent. The shot changes to L, where all you can see, with his head down, is the mess of his hair. A drop of water drips from the end of his hair, the sound clearly distinct in the otherwise silent scene [there’s been no music or anything]. The shot then changes to Light’s foot, and you hear as well as see the droplets from L’s hair landing on Light’s foot. The shot changes to Light, watching L who is now offscreen. He reaches over to grab his own towel and brings it over to L’s face. The shot is now on L in profile.) Light: (drying L’s hair) Here. You’re still soaked. (As Light’s hand retreats, L looks up, and then back down.) L: (quietly) I’m sorry. (soft piano music now begins. L starts drying off Light’s foot again. When the shot goes back to Light, he looks pensive too. There’s silence for some time, barring the music, as the shot changes back to L in profile, looking somewhat distressed. Then back to a wide shot in profile that rises toward the ceiling and the windows letting in natural light. After that, the view changes to the ceiling and its cross-shaped walkways with blue lighting above it, and then back to a wide shot of L and Light, this time facing the stairs.) L: (thoughtful, quiet) It’ll be lonely, won’t it. Light: Hm? (L looks up at Light pointedly and determined. With the shot head on, he says) L: You and I will be parting ways soon. (Light seems thoughtfully startled by this point, and looks perhaps like he’s considering something or is struck by the situation and stuck in the moment. The phone then rings, pulling them out of it, L stands up and answers the phone.) L: Yes? (Now the shot shows L in the foreground, with Light giving him a dark look in the background). L: I understand. I’m on my way. Light: (still glaring at L, baffled) Huh? (Now the shot is a wide shot again, and both their bodies are cut off since the shot is from behind them on the stairs). L: Come on. Let’s go, Light. (Closer in on L, with his back to the viewer) It seems like it’s all worked out. (He walks away.) (The shot changes back to Light’s baffled and angry face as he too stands up). Light: huh?

Basically, L is thoughtful, sad, and a bit smug, while Light is just: ?????

L telling yo mama jokes about Kira’s mom while silently daring Light to come to the defense of a woman he doesn’t even know, I mean it’s Kira’s mother, anyone who raised such a horrible murderer must be the worst parent in the world. I bet she’s ugly too. I bet she was lying when she told Kira how proud she was about his test scores

Light Yagami's fingers twitch around his coffee cup.

"I'm sorry," L says, "does this upset you?"

"Of course it doesn't upset me," Light says, smiling brightly. His eyes crease shut when he smiles. Windows of the soul: closed for today, come back tomorrow. "I'm just not sure what this has to do with catching Kira."

"Well, we are trying to profile Kira," L says. "Which includes his relationships with his parents. You called him an affluent child, yes?"

"Yeah."

"It would make sense for Kira's mother to be neglectful," L muses. "He has all of Mommy's money and none of her love. That would give anyone a chip on their shoulder."

"What, you think Kira has an inferiority complex? Why would he? You said it yourself, he thinks what he's doing is justice."

"An attempt to discipline the world," L says. "Perhaps as a reflection of a lack of his mother's gentle guidance?"

"Or his father's," Light says.

"
Go on."

Light's knuckles whiten. L very carefully does not smile. "I'm just saying, I don't know why you're focusing on his mom all of a sudden. It's not like it's the fault of parents when their children choose to become delinquent. Besides, there are thousands, maybe tens of thousands of neglectful parents just in Tokyo. It won't narrow down our suspect pool—"

Ah, another trademark Light Yagami monologue. L decides to take the time to eat his cake.

"—and don't you think that it's unfair to say such things about a woman, even if she did raise a murderer?" Light crosses his arms. "Calling her ugly, really, Ryuga? That's kind of sexist."

L tucks his knees tighter to his chest in an attempt to increase his willpower enough to stop himself from cackling. "You think I'm sexist."

"It's not a personal attack," Light says. "But it's always good to reexamine your unconscious biases."

Well, he's wrong. L's biases are very conscious. For example, Light Yagami is absolutely Kira. "Thank you, Yagami-kun, I'll keep that in mind."

"You're welcome," Light says, heroically.

"I suppose that I should feel sorry for her, then."

"Sorry?"

"This poor, overworked woman who has her hands full taking care of such a spoiled child."

"Just because he's affluent doesn't mean he's spoiled," Light snaps.

"I can't imagine how heartbroken she would be to know her son was a murderer," L barrels on mournfully. "You're right, Yagami-kun. I should have empathized with her position. This must be very hard for her."

"I'm glad you're more in touch with women's struggles now, Ryuga." Light takes a sip of his coffee. His face is blank when he puts it down. "So about the profile for the actual murderer—"

"I still think she lied about the test scores, though," L says, and that's what gets Light to start screaming at him.

A random Milverton x Reader because I was in that mood. It's a humourous little one-shot where Milverton is rather amused and less of a snake (but with him, who can tell for sure? :))

****

You work at the Heim News Agency. You finally get your awaited promotion and this makes you so excited that you accidentally run into a white-haired man in the corridor. You have no idea who he is but you try to explain the situation.

THE MAN YOU RUN INTO IN THE CORRIDOR

A Random Milverton X Reader Because I Was In That Mood. It's A Humourous Little One-shot Where Milverton

Finally, the awaited promotion!

You hold the paper in your hand and you can't believe what you see. The hard work paid off - you were afraid that you would never get rewarded because you come from the lower class, but it seems, no one cares about this at the Heim News Agency. Which means that you can aim even higher, but you are already overjoyed due to what you got now. With the paper, you excitedly, maybe even too excitedly run over the corridor. It is careless and childish, but you cannot hold yourself back.

Well, you probably should have paid more attention.

At the corner, a figure appears out of a sudden and you are unable to stop anymore. You run straight into the man’s arms and you both fell to the ground from the strong hit. You are a little afraid to peek at your victim, after all, it wouldn't be good for your promising career if you run into your boss, but the man who sits in front of you is someone you never saw before. He has white curly hair despite that he doesn't seem to be old at all and he is quite handsome. With his unique golden eyes, he stares at you in confusion. You are the one who first gathers yourself, so you quickly jump up and reach for the man's direction.

"I am terribly sorry for hitting you!" You apologize innocently. "I finally got the promotion I dreamed of. I was working hard to get it so I became quite overjoyed and forgot about my manners."

The man watches you for a moment and you cannot tell if he is angry or not. He has a calculating look in his gaze, like he tries to determine what type of person you are. Then a smile appears at the corner of his mouth and accepting your hand, he lets you help him up. His touch is warm and soft, the warmest and softest hand you ever had a chance to hold.

"Congratulations on your promotion." He says while he picks up the paper what you dropped and after giving a glance on it, he hands it over to you. "It is good when someone is enthusiastic when it comes to their work. It is only worth doing something if you enjoy it and enthusiastic workers are necessary for a company to thrive."

He talks like he owns the building, but it is definitely not the case, you think - he seems too approachable to be one of the higher-ups. But you have the feeling that despite the man's weirdness, you like him - one can't really complain about weirdness if they have a tendency to rush on corridors.

"But" the man, after quickly ordering his suit, adds, "be careful how much you will get overjoyed in your workplace. Not everyone is so forgiving like me when someone hits them."

"Of course, of course!" You agree with a chuckle. "I am sure it could have been much worse if I hit someone else. I could have ran into the company president and that must have been a terrifying experience."

"You think so?" The man tilts his head and looks at you with amusement.

"Yes. I would definitely get fired if I happen to run into President Milverton. Just imagine the commotion it would cause.”

The man's golden eyes strangely sparkle up.

"Indeed, what a commotion it would be." He seems to have fun with the conversation. He leans closer and whispers with a playful smile. "Well, I admit that it is also my bad trait to get overly excited when I hear pleasant news related to my hobbies and when that happens, I also can't stay still. My se...my friend can tell some stories regarding that. Maybe it's better for both of us if we don’t meet the company president." He lets out a little laugh and you can feel his breath at your ear. You wonder what his hobbies are, you want to know more about him. You can already see that you get along well.

"Then you can understand how hard it is to act calm in a situation like this. I am relieved that you are not angry at me." You reply and you feel that your cheeks are blushing. "Do you also work here?"

His smile becomes wider.

"Yes. I am the one who inspects the articles before they get published. I find working in the world of the media interesting and profitable." He adds. "And you?"

"I always wanted to become a journalist." You nod. "This is why I am so happy for my promotion." You like the man more and more ever since you collided, so you shyly ask. "Would you like to go out with me for a coffee? I would be really interested to hear more about your hobbies and I can also compensate you for ending up on the floor."

You hope that you were not too direct after such a short time of being acquaintances but the man doesn't seem to mind your invitation. He takes his watch out of his pocket and checks it.

"It would be a pleasure to continue the discussion, but unfortunately, I still have a task I need to fulfill today." He declines, to your greatest sorrow. "But next time you run into me, you need to pay me a piece of strawberry cake in the confectionery. Strawberries are my favourite."

“Next time, I will buy you an entire strawberry cake.” You promise cheerfully and you already decide to make sure to run into him in the near future. You know that you wish to meet this man again. It is quite fateful that you hit him of all people.

With that, you say goodbye to each other and the man continues his way in the opposite direction. You walk away, this time, in a normal tempo, which is hard because your talk cheered you up even more.

You suddenly realize that you forgot to ask the man’s name.
