regressuary day 7 : LGBTQ themes | link to bingo card & @regressuary
spotted these jorts and was reminded of this jackie outfit and couldn't stop thinking about tmascjackets agere ๐๐๐ this is purely self indulgent i fear ๐ you can find my yellowjackets masterlist here and my upcoming list here ๐
jackie who tearfully comes out first to nat and then to shauna ๐ the weight of his secret is crushing him , each time they call him "she" or girl hitting like a slap to the face ๐ nat who holds him , letting the boy cry , rubbing soothing circles into his back ๐ shauna who shrugs it off as no big deal , casually dropping that in fact he's in a similar position though it had been much easier for shauna , now shaun to accept ๐
jackie (who still wants to be jackie at least for the time being) begins regressing more often in the freedom of nat's cramped room in his trailer , far from the taylor's own sprawling manor ๐ nat , no stranger to jackie's regression is pleased to take on the big brother role , seeing it as euphoric not only for himself but also to be a part of giving jackie his "proper" childhood ๐
with nat and shauna being the only two to know about jackie's being trans , he'll often go to them tearfully when he's feeling dysphoric ๐ dysphoria is one of jackie's biggest triggers to regress , oftentimes leaving nat and shauna with the large task of dealing with a dysphoric toddler ๐
nat is more open to having emotional conversations with jackie regardless of if he's regressed or not ๐ shaun on the other hand isn't great with tears , trying not to cringe and doing his best to coax a more calm jackie out with a toy car or dinosaur ๐
nat calls him "buddy" , "little man" , and "bubba" which always brings a shy smile to jackie's face ๐ shaun has affectionately dubbed him "squirt" and "booger" which he always delivers with a playful toss of jackie's curls ๐
although he's certainly not a baby , jackie's still little enough to sometimes have accidents ๐ he'll be busy roughhousing with shaun who won't stop tickling him and all of a sudden it's too late ๐ his laughter will stop abruptly , tears filling his eyes in embarrassment ๐ as if it's not bad enough to have an accident while playing with your big brother , jackie's quite dysphoric about the situation ๐
shaun will stop teasing him immediately , exchanging a look with nat ๐ jackie's clearly doing his best not to cry , legs crossed and hands covering the crotch of his pants ๐ nat is always able to calm him down though it's a process ๐ "shhh , shhh ๐" he'll soothe ๐ "you're okay , jack ๐ it's just an accident , huh buddy ?" jackie will initially refuse to talk around shaun , worried that he'll bully him ๐ he's a hiccupy mess but after reassurance from shaun that it's okay he'll let nat help him clean up and calm down ๐
nat who saves up his money to buy jackie supplies both for his transition and his regression ๐ he gathers together a box of things for his little brother , giving it to him the next time he's over by himself ๐ nat doesn't have much money and as much as he loves shaun he's worried he'll be jealous or want stuff from him as well ๐ the box is full of items squirreled away by nat : pull ups ( the boys ones ) , nat's old binder , a new package of boxers , a few shirts from goodwill and a mostly new set of army men toys ๐
jackie gets shy at seeing a few of the more intimate items but can't thank nat enough ๐ nat beams at his little brother , tousling his hair and letting him know how proud he is of him ๐
jackie is so fascinated watching nat do his t-shots and shaun expertly put on his trans tape ๐ he's too afraid to try trans tape himself , not wanting his parents or another one of his teammates to find out but he's very curious about it ๐ sometimes he'll get upset hearing nat's deepening voice or just how flat shaun can get his chest to look ๐ he wants to look like a boy too ๐ nat helps him into his old binder , teaching him how to move the tissue of his chest so the binder is more effective ๐ although he can only wear the binder at nat's jackie can't help but sob the first time he feels his flattened chest and sees the effects of the binder in nat's shitty bathroom mirror ๐
jackie's not supposed to wear his binder while regressed yet he often tries to get away with it ๐ shaun doesn't mind as much , just wanting jackie to be comfortable but nat will gently but firmly scold him ๐ when jackie learns that wearing his binder too long can affect him getting top surgery in the future he's really upset ๐ although he's typically well behaved he'll throw tantrums when he's feeling dysphoric not wanting to give up his flat chest even if he's already been wearing his binder for too long ๐
it's not until shaun offers up his most oversized flannel that jackie stops fussing ๐ still he's moody for the rest of the afternoon , hardly wanting to play with his toys or joke around with his brothers ๐
growing up an only child with overprotective parents , jackie was never allowed much freedom as a child , hardly even allowed to play outside ๐ nat and shaun are determined to make up for this , teaching him how to catch frogs and skip rocks ๐ ( nat is a real master at skipping rocks ๐ )
Antler Queen/Final Boss is Tai
I feel like this makes perfect sense and is not talked about at all. Taiโs dark persona taking over is really being hinted at this season and it makes sense that the girls will go for that after Shauna (inevitably) goes off the rails and ruins their chance to go home.
Itโs even hinted at in the final image of the title sequence plus the wilderness is always giving her stuff (Van getting better, Tai is the most successful of all the girls to come home). I feel like the creepy man she sees everywhere is this dark persona that takes over her and the show is building up to her finally giving in to it.
yellowjacketsblr what the fuck is this exactly
idk if this is spoilers iโll spoiler it just incase
my friend sent this to me and is refusing to explain the context and i can only assume this is someone being sacrificed by lottie or some shit cuz like sheโs a cult leader right
โShaunaโs character was butchered (haha) this season.โ โSheโs cartoonishly evil.โ โHer actions make no sense.โ โNo depthโ
LOUD AND WRONG PEOPLE !!!
This is all Iโve been seeing on TikTok about season 3 and letโs be honest, TikTok yj fans are the worst but this is plain wrong.
Now, not saying you have to โdefendโ Shauna in this season (no one asked u to, babe) but there was still depth to her character in season 3.
I was thrilled to see Shaunas character arc taking a different direction. Season 2 was all tragic and more or less reasonable but this is over now. Shauna is hurt, traumatized and all this hurt turned to anger. She shut herself of from the group but then she still wants power over them, some kind of thing she can be in control of. Because thatโs a whole thing for her especially in the adult-timeline. When she gets that little bit of power with Melissa she thrives on it and gets greedy.
When for some reason the other girls donโt really try to stand up to her she lets the power get to her. Thatโs a classic trope. Starting with something small and getting away with it, to being in charge of the whole group. Not random pretty reasonable timeline.
Grief -> Anger -> Control and Power as an outlet for Anger -> Euphoria ->(Hybris)
Thatโs where we get the (for me world changing) line about Shauna having fun in the wilderness.
I definitely donโt think this is unreasonable and I strongly dislike people claiming this was bad writing.
โ Traci Brimhall, Dear Eros
To me the crux of the story in Yellowjackets will always be a reflection of how modern major societies continuously and systematically fail the most vulnerable.
Every character in this show is a victim one way or another.
Lottie was born into a privileged life but was othered by her own mental illness and constantly failed by a world that continuously silenced and isolated her rather than guiding or dealing with the issues she didn't understand how to address.
Natalie started with nothing. She is the reflection of many children in America who are born into families that do not have the physical, economic, or emotional resources to care for them.
Travis very clearly has some sort of anxiety disorder and has been shown to have a history of being bullied and even ridiculed by his own father. God forbid a young boy have any type of sensitivity. Beyond that, his character is a very deliberate example of a survivor of sexual assault- an issue that is never really addressed by the perpetrators.
Taissa was born into a middle-class privileged family and a great deal of pride and ambition that was likely learned or reinforced in some way. She also was a teenage, mixed race, lesbian in the 90's. She had every instinct and drive to succeed despite a world that was structured so that she couldn't.
Jackie was born into a privileged, suburban, white family- but she was still a teenage girl in the 90s with perceptions of who she was forced onto her.
Shauna was the stereotypical poster child of teen angst in modern America, but she also had a deep set insecurity and maladaptive issues that were never looked at or acknowledged.
All of these children undergo a tremendous amount of stress, loss, grief, pain, and both physical and emotional trauma that changes them forever. But then they return to a world that is indifferent to all of that. Their pain is spectacle. Something to be publicly agreed upon as a tragedy. But they don't ever receive the care they need from it. They are shuffled back into a world they no longer fit into and expected to return to their roles as proper, civilized, demure young women and gentleman.
The tragedy of Yellowjackets was never about the horrors of survival in the wilderness- the tragedy has always been that this is a very clear depiction of how society's indifference and persistent marginalization of those considered "other" can push people to the brink of destruction or their own humanity.
I can't even argue with this tbh
People who don't watch the show should try to guess what she's smiling about here
@yourlocalsluttymanenjoyer @ohwowhereiam
Do it do it
People who don't watch the show should try to guess what she's smiling about here
I can't decide whether it's funnier to think Travis was just taking a shot in the dark and hit the target with the sleepover make outs or if Jackie's genuinely whispering in his ear like "yeah. I mean I knew she was gay because we used to kiss like... all the time. Like, with tongue and everything. Can't believe she went for Melissa, though. Nat's right there. Oh, shit. Sorry Travis."
Feel like a lot of people somehow missed the fact Melissa, Gen and Akilah were all collectively trying to isolate and kill Shauna, Tai and Lottie, its just none of them managed to actually go through with it. Van interrupts before Gen can even try, Akilah picks up a rock but can't make herself strike Lottie with it, Melissa gets the furthest but looking in Shauna's eyes as she struggles to breathe she just cant quite finish the job. Effectively the three of them and Mari orcestrated the hunt because they thought the chaos of it would be the best way to isolate and kill the people they see as causing the violence and stopping them from going home. The irony being that this means they instigated the violence this time, and, to be clear, this is all without even knowing about Nat, Van, and Misty's plan with the satellite phone. So they can try to say this was all Shauna and Lottie's doing but it wasn't, not when the others deliberately used what they knew of Shauna and Lottie's tendencies to try and benefit themselves, and isnt that what they've done all along really? Used Shauna and Lottie to assuage their own guilt and complicity in the violence.
some people are dodging the point so hard. like yes shaunas the "bad guy", shes the one who wants people dead (and maybe lottie too ig) but this story has always been about why its even possible for that to matter. shes literally just one person so why dont they all just refuse to participate? nat does, repeatedly, but no one stands with her so lottie and shauna get what they want. we saw that shauna literally backed down when tai stood up to her, she isnt some unstoppable force.
this is and has always been about passive violence. how being silent in the face of violence, not actively standing up and saying "No" is complicity. tai and van rigging the cards so it will be the "outsider" who gets hunted is complicity. it is commentary on how we allow "fringe" members of our communities to be cast out, othered, hunted, because we're too afraid for ourselves to stand in solidarity with them. but then in the end when the violence comes for you or your friend or your family theres no one left to stand with you because you abandoned those "others" who could have stood with you. shauna and lottie only have the power that the girls give them by being passively complicit in a similar way to how shauna was complicit in tai's plan for allie in the pilot. and so it goes again and again. they all ostracised jackie, watched javi drown, let shauna intimidate and lottie lead them to vote against ben. this show is literally inspired by twin peaks, a story in which an entire town is found to be complict in the murder of a girl they all snubbed every possible opportunity to save. the point is not that shauna is the villian but rather that she is only able to hurt people because the others have created an environment that indulges her worst impulses.
Just wanna point out how if anyone else tried to even attempt what Melissa did to Shauna, Shauna wouldโve literally skinned them chin to anus without a second thought. Like Melissa rocked Shaunaโs shit with that tree branch, continued to overpower her, and then tried to choke her to death. You canโt tell me that shauna doesnโt have some feeling for her cause she really just let all that slide. Weโre talking about bisexual satan, oshauna bin laden, shaudam Hussein, wilderness jigsaw, ect ect
I feel like I need to say this for some reason but idk if anyone agrees but me personally, I LOVE Shauna, as a character. Her story is amazing to me as someone who loves fucked up characters. However in NO WAY am I going to defend her bro. Like I'm actively rooting against her all while loving her, in contrast to Lottie. Who I do root for, prmarily because unlike Shauna she genuinely believes what she's doing is helping (it's not). That's where I draw the line and I understand hating Shauna, but like can we stop hating people who love her? Please? Cause I'm on ur side of oh I CANNOT wait for her to get what's coming for her all the while appreciating her as a story, as a fictional character, as someone who could've been so different.
Mari to Shauna as soon as she dies and gets to the Afterlife:
One thing about Shauna and her beef with Mari is that she wants to be respected and worshipped and if she can't have that she want people to fear her. And Mari never did either. Mari never worshipped her nor felt like she had to walk around eggshells around Shauna like everyone else did. She didn't pity her. And she wasn't scared of her. Which is kind of stupid at times, but also really telling. The others saw Shauna as if she was the Terminator, but Mari always saw her as a pathetic teenage girl with a lot of insecurities. Which is how Shauna feels deep down and it drove her mad, having someone whose very presence reminded her of those insecurities. And she becomes leader and and Mari still wasn't afraid of her! She becomes Nat's biggest supporter instead! Nope, she never showed her fear toward Shauna. Not even when she was hunted. She was afraid of dying. Not of Shauna. Mari didn't even give Shauna the pleasure of looking her in the eye when she put the necklace on her. Shauna never had the treat of seeing fear in Mari's eyes. Instead Mari tried to take her out with a knife and then told Shauna off one last time, telling her she deserves everything (bad) that's gonna happen to her.
No respect. No fear. Ever. The only time Shauna could have any control over Mari was after Mari was dead. Which says a lot about Mari as a person.
I was going to write a meta on why Jackieโs reciprocated feelings for Shauna are so blatant when you read between the lines of her scenes, but just letting the show speak for itself in video form makes it even clearer. I love how much their relationship is layered in subtext and double meaning, and the further into the show we get the more this is all cemented as totally intentional.
Nat with Lottie in ep8: Sweetheart, angel, baby letโs go please okay? Everything will be good my love <3
Nat with Shauna in ep8: GIRL WTF JUST WALK U DUMBASS MOTHERFUCKER
AND THATS YELLOWJACKETS FOR YA!!!
Okay.. so I kinda just said fuck it to the original concept and did all of them (my bad Misty)
The one plot hole I'll never accept in Yellowjackets is that Shauna was allegedly a normal stay at home mom for 15 years and only started acting out in season 1 there is no way that gremlin (affectionate) survived for 15 years on the joys of motherhood and the occasional butchered rabbit alone I'm gonna need a record of every suspicious death in New Jersey for the past two decades I'm 100% convinced she was a serial killer on the side
I can't with people being like "oh, I can't stand the Yellowjackets after this", "How do people still like Lottie after she killed a man like that?" Like why are you acting like this show didn't start with a terrified girl/woman dying after falling into a pit when she was running for her life because she was being hunted down by people with masks that were shown to take her body, butcher her, cook her and eat her in some sort of ritual and those same people were confirmed to be the girls. Oh wow they're doing fucked up shit. Well no shit didn't you see the show? This is the Fucked Up Womanโข factory, they're all terrible and yet still complex and still likeable that's why I like the show. "Oh man she killed a dude. Oh man this other one convinced the others to kill a dude!" And they looked good doing it! What are you protestant
i beg let's make this cannon it'll be so fucking funny
im shocked that i havent seen shipping of these 2 because the potential๐ญ
