"You've changed." The hero said, carefully. It had been years since they last saw the villain. They had disappeared after their last fight without a trace. The hero, despite themself, had tried to track them down, find out about their whereabouts. But, in the end, they had come up with nothing. It was like the villain never existed.
The villain chuckled. "Yes, I have better ways to annoy you now." The hero's brows knitted together.
"You're no longer causing trouble." The hero continues, ignoring the villain's comment.
The villain glanced away, their expression turning serious.
"Why?" The hero asks, taking a tentative step forward.
"I got bored. Besides, it's not fun anymore. We fight, one of us wins, we fight again. The whole routine." They gesture in the air dismissively.
The hero didn't quite believe them. "You got bored of fighting?" They asked, a little in disbelief. The villain loved to fight, they loved the thrill. Both of them did. So, it didn't make sense when they said it wasn't fun anymore.
"Yes, hero." The villain responded, staring into their eyes.
"I don't believe you."
"It's the truth."
"Then look me in the eyes when you say it."
The villain clenched their jaw, tensing up. The hero knew them so well. But they couldn't just tell them that it was because of the hero, that the hero had somewhere along the way convinced the villain that there was more to life than fighting and empty battles. That they could let go of the hatred and not resist life anymore.
The hero took a step closer, filling the gap between them. "Villain." They whispered.
The villain gulped, their eyes flickering with uncertainty. "What?"
"You can say it." The hero coaxed, their voice quiet, expression gentle.
The villain didn't want to. They wanted to resist, hold on to the last bit of what they were before the hero entered their life. However, it was all in vain. "Fine. It's because of you."
The hero smiled faintly, their fingers intertwining with the villain's. "I'm glad you're back."

“So…you lost the bet.” The villain mused, smirking what seemed to be tremendous amount of satisfaction.
The hero frowned. They didn’t even know what the villain was talking about. “What bet?” They asked.
“The bet that said that neither of us would ever fight each other again. But here we are.” The villain explained, nodding.
“Well, then you’ve lost the bet too. You’re here, aren’t you.”
“Oh, no no no. I’m just here to inform you that you’ve lost the bet.” The villain said hurriedly.
The hero stood puzzled for a moment. And then they smiled. “In that case, I’m also here to inform you that you’ve lost the bet.”
The villain pouted. Adorable, the hero thought. “You can’t use my reasoning against me.”
The hero tittered, almost fondly. They took a step forward, the hand raising to stroke the villain’s cheek.
“You’re adorable.” They said. The villain blushed, glaring at them half-heartedly.
“I still won the bet.” The villain insisted.
“Mhmm you did.” The hero responded.
When the hero later asked the villain-their head lying on hero’s lap- what was the prize for winning the bet, the villain realized they had forgotten to decide on the prize.
"So, what do you say we run away together?" The villain suggested to the hero with a grin, that was way too wide. The hero sighed. The villain had asked the same question every time they fought together. It was getting tiring. But with the way the villain was now pouting while looking at him expectantly, made it harder to say no. He was too cute.
"I-" The hero started. However, he couldn't say anything else before the villain interrupted him.
"Don't object this time. Listen, I have a plan. A. Foolproof. Plan." The villain emphasized, confidence. He crossed his arms in front of his chest, and then strolled to where the hero was standing.
"And, what plan would that be? The last time we were planning, you got too distracted and we ended up doing something entirely different. But, go ahead. Tell me." The hero muttered as the villain came face to face with him.
"How about we fake our death?" The villain whispered, his hand moving to trace along the jaw of the hero's. The hero raised his eyebrows.
"You said you had a foolproof plan. This is your plan?" The villain's fingers went down and down until they were resting on the hero's shoulders.
The villain nodded. "Yeah. We get to fool people about our deaths, so fool-proof, get it?" He chuckled at his own joke. The hero just kept his straight face. This wasn't something to joke about, honestly, what was the villain thinking? He'd never know. "And anyway, it would be pretty believable. Think about it, we could plan a fight and act like we both died during it. And then poof! we disappear. We could go to another country and get different identities. Sounds very good to me."
The hero gaped at him. Was the villain serious?! This was below believable. If anything, the hero's agency would seek him out from the depths of hell. And if they did hide their identities, it was only a matter of time before someone recognized them. It would be too dangerous and too disastrous. He was not ready to take that risk. So, he shook his head, letting himself get away from the warmth of the villain's hand, and shuffling to the window on the left.
"It's not as easy as it sounds. We can't do that. There is too much of a possibility of our lives being endangered. I can't let us get hurt. See, no one knows about this, about our secret relationship. So, how about we keep it that way for now? I'm going to retire in a few years either way." The hero said, turning around and searching for the villain's eyes who was still frowning. He went to him and put their foreheads together. "I want you to be safe, my love. I can't afford to lose you. Ever. Do you understand me?"
The villain grimaced, followed by a groan. He buried his face in the hero's neck. "But I-I can't do this anymore. It's so intolerable when the whole world is wanting to marry you and I can't tell them that you're mine. That we belong to each other and no one else. That, I love you." He confessed, kissing the hero who kissed him right back.
"I know, I know. But you don't have to worry, because I love you too. And, I would never leave you for anyone else. I would never even think about it." The hero mumbled in between the kisses. The villain brought him closer by his waist, and kissed him again, deeply.
Perhaps, someday the hero and the villain will be able to tell the world just how much they love each other. How they belong together with each other, like pieces of a puzzle.
"Dismissed, you are." The villain told his sidekick, swirling a glass stone in his hand. He thought about his previous meeting with the hero. How both of them had gotten so close to each other that they could basically smell one another's perfume. He sighed. For some reason, it was stuck on a loop since that day. What's funny is, it's almost been a week and he can't get it out of his head. Neither does he want to. It feels wrong to just…just forget about it as if it never happened.
So, the next time he found himself fighting the hero, he made sure to be as far away from the hero as possible. He tried his utmost not to get into close combat or anywhere near 4 feet of distance between them. Unfortunately, though, the hero noticed his strange behavior. The hero stopped him in mid-battle and frowned.
“What’s wrong with you, today? You’re not fighting properly, your stance is extremely wrong and you don’t seem to be paying enough attention to your attacks. You okay?” The hero breathing heavily marched toward him. His face, somewhat concerned, but bemused, shone under the high sun. The villain stepped back, still refusing- and reminding himself- not to get too close to the hero.
“Stop! Don’t come too close.” The villain groaned, his head throbbing with the heat around him. The hero’s brows knitted together, not convinced, he continued to move his feet and stopped when he was about a foot away from touching the villain.
“What?” The hero asked, licking his lips. The villain, despite himself, followed the movement of the other’s tongue. Entranced. He sighed, glancing away, not wanting to look into the hero’s eyes.
“Nothing. I’m f-fine. Just want some space.” The villain murmured, his feet shifting away from the hero, but before he could, the hero’s hand was on his wrist, restricting him.
“Are you sure you’re okay? Your face is red.” The hero said, tugging at the villain’s wrist. His lips pressed in a straight line, jaw tightened. The villain attempted to ignore him, but to his vail, the hero merely tugged him close. His body flushed against the hero’s, whilst he stared at the ground, his heart racing. “Look at me.” The villain shook his head.
The hero brought his hand up, put it under the villain my chin, and forced him to turn his head. “Did I do something wrong?”, the hero swallowed. And the villain wanted to say something because the way the hero’s voice was so gentle, made him feel wobbly.
"No, you didn't do anything wrong. Now, let go of my hand, will you?" The villain muttered, putting his hand on the hero's. The hero didn't even flinch a little, studying the villain with his big doe eyes. The villain huffed.
"Then why?" The hero asked.
"Because, I…I get this feeling when you get too close during our fights."
"Huh?”
“I like you, you idiot!” The villain exclaimed, going red in the face. His heart beating so fast, he feared it was going to stop without warning. “I’m not supposed to, goddamn it. But, I do.” The hero stood stunned, his grip loosening around the villain’s hand.
“Oh.” The hero let out. His face was set in concentration mode. “I didn’t-didn’t know.” The villain waited patiently. The hero looked him in the eyes.
"I'm sorry. I'm sure you don't like me back." The villain whispered when the hero didn't say anything. "This isn't your problem."
"What if I said I like you too?" The hero suggested, his voice calm and collected. The villain stopped.
"What?"
"I like you, too. I have liked you for like months now, but I was afraid you wouldn't like me back. And, I know we're not supposed to be romantically involved, but we can't help who we like or love, can we?" The villain smiled a little.
"Yeah."
"Yeah. Wait, can I kiss you?"
"Thought you'd never ask." The villain laughed, as he pulled the hero close and kissed him softly. The hero, hesitantly so, kissed him back. And, it was perfect. They were perfect. This was perfect. They would deal with the world around them later.
