Jason Grace Deserved Better
*This is just my opinion. I don’t care if you like TOA
Like most fans, I at first didn’t like Jason too much. Compared to most of the main characters, Jason seemed pretty bland. However, after rereading the books and analyzing Jason’s character, I realized how interesting he is. All his life, Jason has always been the “golden boy” leader type without really exploring himself. After the HOO series though, Jason started exploring more of himself beyond people’s expectations. When I learned about him appearing in the TOA series, I was expecting more exploration and growth for Jason, but it was ignored and he was killed off. This made me very upset.
Jason had a mission to commemorate every god (Greek or Roman) and live his own life. It would’ve been great representation for people who have trouble with their identity. If Rick wanted to add something tragic to Jason’s story then he could’ve done something else. Or he could’ve prolonged his death after doing at least a bit of Jason’s development.
With his relationship with Piper, I didn’t care much for the romance in HOO but felt it was getting better when they both agreed to restart their relationship in BOO. When I read that they broke up, I was upset because the reasoning contradicted what happened in BOO, and Rick didn’t show us (the readers) why it didn’t work out during that time skip. And Piper moving on so fast after Jason’s death left a bad taste in my mouth. It was shown before Jason’s death that the two still had feelings for each other after the breakup. The timeline from Jason’s death to the end of the TOA series was around 2-3 months, which seems a bit short for someone to move on after their first love died. Maybe Piper’s girlfriend is a rebound but I’m still meh with Piper moving on at that time. Also note that I’m not upset about Piper having a girlfriend. I’m a part of the community and am all in for representation.
Jason not reuniting with Leo was so bad. He deserved to see him again as much as Piper. Coach Hedge assuming Jason broke up with Piper and being mad at him was so disrespectful. A big part of Hedge is him caring about the Lost Hero trio and it was disregarded because of drama. I consider TOA worse than HOO and non-canon. Honestly, the series made me not care about the new releases for the series. I’m only interested in the Nico story because he’s at least well-written and justice for Bob.
I’m thinking of writing an essay on how I would rewrite Jason’s character and development but it would take a while and I don’t have the time.
My least favorite member is Piper. She’s just kind of bland to me and TOA didn’t really put her into my good graces. My opinion on her was a rollercoaster. I liked her at first, then it went down, went up around the Mark of Athena, and then went really down in TOA. I am going to write a reason why Piper is my least favorite soon.
Jason used to be my least favorite, but the last two books of the HOO series and the third book of TOA made me adore him.
My Order of Most to Least Favorite:
1. Percy
2. Annabeth
3. Leo
4. Hazel
5. Jason
6. Frank
7. Piper
Comment your order.

Connor and Travis would totally run a company like this.
I read a post about Alex a few months ago that basically said Riordan's portrayal of genderfluid people was problematic because of the way Alex explained being genderfluid to Magnus. I beleive they said it was unnatural and that no one would explain it that way.
I think they may be forgetting that Magnus Chase is for young kids who probably have never heard of the term before. Alex explains genderfluidity in a similar way other characters explain mythology. The characters aren't just explaining the subjects to each other, but also the audience. Who are meant to be children.
Of course you may think that its a rather patronizing way of explaining it to kids, which is fair.
That being said, Riordan definitely made many mistakes in portraying his minority characters accurately/respectfully, and he didn't respond to criticism well, but I don't think this particular criticism is fair. If anything it should be a criticism of his writing style.
Of course this is just my opinion, and I couldn't find the original post so I may have misinterpreted it (apologies if I did, feel free to set me straight💙)
Okay, I was scrolling through tik tok and found something really interesting (the user is @.xqzcvi)
The post got me thinking of the Di Angelo’s.
‘I can’t love you any more’
(Nico Di Angelo, the younger brother who finally understands all his sister’s sacrifices and how much she has helped him)
‘I can’t love you anymore’
(Bianca Di Angelo, the older sister who after years spent dedicating herself to her little brother wants to live her life and think about herself)
And this makes so much sense to me. Many people judge Bianca’s decision for leaving Nico, and even though it was half wrong, she was just a kid. A kid that was tired of being the big sister, the adult, the older one, the responsible. She was a kid, and maybe she didn’t want to be just a sister.
Maybe she just wanted to be Bianca Di Angelo.
Her decision of joining the hunters was to finally live her own life, and not taking care of Nico all the time. She trusted the camp, and trusted Percy over all to care for Nico, as she knew he would be in capable hands.
Bianca loved Nico. But he isn’t everything to her. And that isn’t bad.
Its Canon. I've decided it's Canon so therefore it is. /j
headcanon that grover and percy are just completely incapable of arguing. might as well be canon too, cause like everytime in the books there's some conflict, it just goes like this:
percy: *narrating* i am so annoyed at grover. i am literally shaking with anger right now. I don't wanna talk to him 😠
grover: *sad brown eyes* sorry, percy 🥺
percy: .....
percy: what are you SAYING, it's all MY fault for getting mad 🥺 what is WRONG with me i'm so stupid please give me a hug 😭 you did nothing wrong ❤️
pls pls pls I need a Jercy political marriage pls
Fandom: The Kane Chronicles - Rick Riordan
Rating: General Audiences
Major Character Death
No Pairings or Relationships
Summary: “A short fic about a tragic event in my Kane Chronicles OC Manon Fournier’s backstory.”
I am aware this is the first post on my new account, but. This is just a random post, I just finished the book. The sun is a star, and I have some things to say. I did like it but I feel like it wasn’t as good as it could’ve been you could tell two people wrote it, and while it was refreshing to have a different writing style inside of a rick riorden book with the same characters, I do feel like it was kind of not the best or at least what it could’ve been. The concept was good, but I feel like the storyline didn’t really flow all that well, although that is partly my fault because I read the first part of it in bulk a while ago, and recently have been reading every once in a while, and just a couple minutes ago, finish it but even with that I feel like it doesn’t flow that well. And yes, Will and Nico are very cute in the book. I feel like they should have expanded more on Nico’s past and maybe they could’ve had a big fight about it and it all comes out and it could’ve been way more dramatic, and way more convincing. also, I feel like they could’ve done more with Hades and Nico’s, mom and sister in the book and at the very end where they rescue Bob from Nxy they felt very rushed. Overall, it is very good book and I did enjoy reading it but I feel like it could’ve done more.
Ok, ok.
So. I've had this theory floating around in my head for years but i've never actually talked about it.
The First Great Prophecy of the original Percy Jackson books is worded like this:
1. A half-blood of the eldest gods
2. Shall reach sixteen against all odds
3. And see the world in endless sleep
4. The hero's soul, cursed blade shall reap
5. A single choice shall end his days
6. Olympus to preserve or raze
Now, in Heroes of Olympus, Piper Mclean makes an interesting comment about the nature of the oldest olympian:
Now, the reason for one of the Big Three's children being prophesized is simply, that "gods often refer to the male ones."
When you put this into context, this seems, odd, doesn't it? Prophecies are intentionally misleading, and according to the wiki, "Regardless of how a prophecy is received, they all have one thing in common: they are cryptic. A prophecy will never say exactly what will happen,"
So why are the Big Three assumed to be the eldest gods, and why does everyone just go along with this explanation, the easiest one to believe?
(Ok, so what am I yapping about? what does this mean?)
Aphrodite is the eldest Olympian. Her daughter, Silena (oh, no.)
could be the (my) hero of the Great prophecy.
Let me explain each line first, then go through the entire theory.
First of all,
2. "shall reach 16 against all odds."
Silena was around 16 at the time of her death. The "odds" she's faced, apparently to make her decision (which I'll talk about later) are most likely just one "odd": Beckendorf's death. Unlike Percy, who's (assumed to be) our hero in the original story, she does not go through multiple quests to try and stop Luke/Kronos. This might make someone feel this argument is less compelling. However, Beckendorf's death and Clarisse's support rock Silena's foundations to the core, because she operated with Luke only under the belief that he would keep Beckendorf safe.
So yes, Silena made it to her current age against all odds.
" 'Against all odds' is an idiom that means something was achieved despite the odds being stacked against it." So absolutely, Silena made it against all odds.
3. And see the world in endless sleep
This section is pretty self-explanatory. In the Last Olympian,
So yes, as easily as this section applies to Percy, it easily applies to Silena. What's even more interesting is that in this specific scene, Silena is given a role.
Keep in mind up until this point Silena has basically been treated barely as a character, an accessory for Rick to use as an Aphrodite child Percy is semi-familiar with. Rick even regularly forgets the makeup of her physical features.
So yes, she does fit the third line of the prophecy.
Now you may think. "There's absolutely no way she can fit the last three lines of the prophecy into Silena's story. No. Absolute. Way."
But, dear reader, you misunderstand me. This is merely an alternate interpretation of the Great Prophecy that I honestly like better than the original one. Because it subverts expectations. Because it changes the way people see things, and prophecies seldom turn out exactly the way they are described. Percy at some point is just assumed to be the hero of the prophecy. I like this theory because it is exactly what a prophecy should be: it will never say exactly what will happen, in the way that you expect it to happen.
Let's move on to Line #4.
4. The hero's soul, cursed blade shall reap
Silena is established as the spy for Kronos in Book 5, The Last Olympian, Kronos begins taunting Percy with a bracelet that has a scythe charm on it: the method of communication he and his spy use. This scythe charm could very well be the "cursed blade" as Silena gives up her soul to be reaped by Kronos' cursed blade. Silena sells her soul in the hope of saving Beckendorf, and she loses her soul/life in the process of losing that blade. The cursed blade reaps, or kills, her.
If not for her association with Kronos and her later guilt that leads her to die for Clarisse, Silena would never have died. She wouldn't have been reaped. It's not as literal of a connection but it's a poetic one that still works quite well, especially in the tone of this side-arc mirroring the poem of Achilles and Patroclus.
5. A single choice shall end his days
("WAIT!!", you're saying. "IT SAYS HIS DAYS, NOT HER DAYS!!1!!!1 THEORY DISPROVED, AND YOU'RE A LIAR!")
Do you hear people say "humankind" very often? In many older texts, and partially in the current day, "him" was just the singular, default version of "they". Femininity had to be specified. This is why Thalia was considered a viable candidate for the prophecy.
Now, Silena's single choice was obvious: going out with Clarisse's helmet on. She sacrificed her life to lead the Ares cabin, which by the way was a major problem as they had the majority of the weapons and heavy fighters but refused to be moved out UNTIL Silena decided to step up and lead them.
#6. and More Explanation will be out in a part #2 I will write soon!!!
the entire camp half blood is literally just fucking lucky nico has a problem with sacrificing himself for the people he loves because if he was actually vengeful and grunge holder as rr claimed him to be, they all would not have lasted a fucking day in the battle of manhattan after he had decided to join luke
Fans when we get a pjo show: 🥰🥰🥰🥰😘
Fans when we get a Harry Potter show:
I’m calling it now Poseidon is gonna be fucking Ryan Reynalds
Edit: well this aged like milk
Babe wake up, new Percy Jackson just dropped
Hot Take : The Heroes of Olympus might be Rick Riordan's worst written series, with the most interesting characters.
Compare this series with PJo. Though it was written in the first person, both the story and characters were three dimensional. I usually have a visual representation running in my head when I read books, and this series became my favorite because I was able to feel the emotions and plot like it was personal.
On the other hand, HoO was much more two dimensional when it came to the plot. Half of the time, most of my re-reads were just skipping to parts I liked.
The characters were the most interesting part in the story for me, and they too could have been much better.
I understand why Leo is a big favorite. The way Leo was written was top tier, and he would have been my favorite if I didn't get distracted by Piper Mclean, and Jason Grace.
Both characters have so much potential, and its that reason that drew me to them.
Piper Mclean was so much more to me, because she was strong and smart, and reliable, and someone the rest went to for comfort or strength. But she was also beautiful, the daughter of a goddess who usually sat in the sidelines watching the drama (that she usually started) unfold around her.
Piper Mclean wanted to take a stand.
Jason Grace was the golden child, the one who was handed the baton, and was told to be the child he should be, and he took it with no questions asked. He was hardworking, resilient, loyal, and he loved his friends so much that he died for them.
He was a hero, and it wasn't because of his father.
All the characters are so beautifully intricate and human, but the writing doesn't allow us to see it.
I don't know about you, but I'm going to love messing with the new fans the Percy Jackson show will bring.
Seeing as Magicians can live so long, how long do you think Carter and Sadie are going to live?
As much as I'm excited for a solo book on solangelo, I really wanted a book focusing on Piper and Jason after the war. I wanted to see them trying to find Leo, trying not to give up, the breaking point where Piper realized this entire relationship wasn't real, the break up, them still being friends and having to remind themselves that they were never dating, and it was all just a fever dream.
I wanted to see them going into that parking lot and being separated, that fear of losing another friend, I wanted to see Jason learning that one of them wasn't going to be around that long, his mindset, him deciding that he wouldn't let Piper die, them fighting outside, Piper knowing Jason was going to do something reckless, and them going their separate ways, because Piper can't bare another friend keeping a secret from her, because she still feels guilty over Leo, and inside she still feels as if the reason Leo didn't tell them the plan was because he didn't trust her, didn't trust them.
The story doesn't have a happy ending. Its a prequel, its everything that lead up to Jason's sacrifice. Piper and Jason were always a tragedy, and I feel like Rick could have expanded on that.
Rick : *yeets Solangelo Solo Book at Us
I have reached the point where every fictional character is bisexual until proved otherwise.
So I was hoping to re read the Percy Jackson books before the series came out .. ... and everyone got to them before me, so Im kinda in the know, but knot in the know... you know?? 😭 and it freaking sucks!!! Cause i have forgotten a lot!
My favourite thing ever is the fact that the Trials of Apollo chapter names are all Haikus
I'm not talking 'what if Sadie was the elder sibling' or 'what if Carter stayed with the Fausts' (which would be impossible, as explained later). I'm saying, what if Carter looked like Ruby, their mom, and Sadie looked like Julius, their dad? Imagine Carter Kane before the first book, our nerdy, obedient, geek of a boy dressed in a button down shirt and slacks, always following up with a suitcase in one hand and NBA stats on the tip of his tongue...with the curliest blonde hair you've ever seen and light skin and eyes blue enough to rival the sky? Imagine Sadie Kane before the first book, our rebellious, confident girl with combat boots and attitude ready for absolutely anything...with red streaks in brown hair and dark brown skin and warm brown eyes that are always filled with fire?
It's always specified in the books that Carter was discriminated against and his dad always told him to dress properly to never give anyone an excuse to be racist. Even if Carter wasn't dark anymore, I'm pretty sure Julius would still want his son dressed impeccably. And the fact that people always got confused when Sadie, Carter and their dad went out (is heartbreaking) doesn't change. It just becomes more frequent, seeing as Carter, who looks like his mum, is with his dad permanently. Everyone they met, at dig sites, museums, ceremonies, hotels, would be confused for a split second. And Carter, honestly, would go through what Sadie describes in the Red Pyramid. An African-American who doesn't look African. And for Sadie, well, that's another story altogether. It's specified rather clearly in the books that the Fausts never liked Carter because he resembled his dad. Can you imagine them getting Sadie, who is only one gamete short of being a carbon copy of her dad? I'm not saying they'd hate her. I trust them enough (I hope think) to still love Sadie because she has her mother's spirit and Ruby is really reflected in our little Kane girl. But I can imagine them flinching every time they see Sadie and her dad standing together, because damn, they look similar. They wouldn't hate her, but a part of them would never truly accept her. And she'd still be as rebellious as ever. Blue streaks in the midst of chocolate coloured hair? She's up for it. But then, instead of Carter, she'd go through the racism that Rick's described. (I am purely quoting the Red Pyramid here, because I personally have no experience of racism and don't want to comment much on something I don't know much about). But she would have to face it.
In summary, the idea just seems really cool to me, and yes, I believe that the House of Life would still influence the court case and give Carter to Julius, since he's the elder one, regardless of any skin tone. It would just be cool to see Sadie vibing with their mom while looking like her dad and Carter and their dad travelling the world, proving stereotypes wrong and being an amazing biracial father son duo.
