GIGGLING AND KICKING MY FEET
I GOT MY DDVAU STUFF FROM @kitsuneisi & @xmaruu11
He looks like Flambo from Adventure Time!!
That one frame from the newest Double Hearted (DDVAU) part has me in a chokehold and now I can't stop saying "Like a kettle!! :D" and drawing the little Tango doodle guy.
Cute little design and incredible story by @kitsuneisi and @xmaruu11 so go check them out!
So I've done it again.
My obsession with this damn comic has completely taken over. So here's my favourite innocent, little, evil creature.
Little sad Hero Forge doesn't yet have broken, almost featherless wings like Mother Spore in the comic. I've been wanting that kind of broken wings for a while. But oh well, this'll do!
All in all, I'm so happy with how this turned out. All the small, detailed tweaking really paid off.
:D
(In case people aren't clicking the link; this is from ddvau by @kitsuneisi and @xmaruu11)
hello hello ddvau fans if you do not know me i do edits for ddvau and i have Known about this chapter for weeks and have been sitting on my rage at HG the whole time. and now it is released i need the people to see he is a bitch ass mf
anyway. starting off here. the very first thing HG says to Grian when talking about what happened is a threat
"i'm here to help you. i'm the best option you got, no one else will"
when i was editing for Doody, this line was just "i'm here to help." but Doody wanted it to come across somewhere in this chapter that HG has all the power in this situation and that HG wants Grian to know that. it was decided that the best spot to include that was right here, right off the bat. HG is Grian's only option and that is as much a promise as it is a threat. no one else will help Grian, and that includes saving him from HG if he doesn't tell HG what he wants to know
and then there's this page. when Grian isnt super forthcoming w info, HG pulls out Jimmy. HG knows better than anyone that Jimmy is completely innocent and that he had nothing to do w the attack--he's a victim here, and HG knows that better than anyone. he also knows, from being Grian and Jimmy's friend as a civilian for years, that Grian cares a lot about Jimmy, and is using that against Grian
he also knows from being a civilian and Jimmy's friend that Jimmy's pro-mutant stance isnt popular, and Jimmy could be framed if HG said something bad about him. HG is trying blatantly to use anti-mutant sentiments against Grian and Jimmy so that Grian will talk, in a moment Grian is already convinced he's going to be arrested for hiding his status as a mutant
(which: note that HG says he heard "rumors" about Jimmy's stance about mutants and his protests against the university's policies--it isn't rumors, HG knows this from being Jimmy's friend and coworker as Scar)
and then here, HG is the only one who was conscious and who was fully present for and remembers what happened during the MS attack. yeah, Tango was also there, but Tango is a known mutant, adn we've already seen people do not trust Tango and think Tango is dangerous--he's certainly not as trustworthy as HG, Superhero, Emerald Soldier, face of the military. he's the one people will trust most. what he says happened is what happened
HG says that yes, Grian’s secret is safe, but only because HG is choosing to keep it. Grian is safe because HG is allowing him to be. HG told everyone that Grian gained wings from the attack, and so HG won't arrest Grian. in this narrative which HG made up, Grian did not lie to the government and he was not always a mutant. HG said it, so it's true, even if he's lying. all HG has to do is change his mind and say that Grian was always a mutant who lied and hid his status from the government, and then Grian will be arrested. HG could change his mind at any time if Grian doesn't cooperate with him. he's very blatantly blackmailing Grian
fun fact! the original version of this line didn't have the "for now," but it was added in editing when Doody said they wanted it to be explicitly clear HG is threatening Grian
what HG says here is the truth. he isn't just representing the law--HG is above the law, and he isn't shy about making sure Grian knows that. he's willing to use anything in his disposal to get the information he wants, and he's willing to use anything available to him to make sure Grian complies with him. disguising it in friendly attitude and cookies and a phone number does not hide the fact HG was incredibly ruthlessly manipulative here
anyway. incredibly fun chapter. one of my favorites. i need DDVAU HG exploded
silly mother spore vevvverryy messy
go read ddvau! double hearted comic i love! au by @kitsuneisi and @xmaruu11
Cute Guy flew past building after building, scanning the streets below for danger. He swerved around office buildings, glancing through the glass windows occasionally.
It was another Saturday, school was out for the weekdays and the professor had a small mountain and assignments to grade. After staring at one too many essays, Grian finally called it quits and flew out the window in the only way he could. Illegally.
Wind whipped through his feathers as he pumped his wings, soaring higher and higher.
Just as he reached the top, a mix of black, orange and blue caught his eye.
Without hesitation, Cute Guy zipped right in front of the man, grinning at the surprised gasps (gasp) he heard.
“Wha- oh hi.” Hot Guy steps back a few steps to give space for CuteGuy to land. “Fancy seeing you here.”
Cute Guy raised an eyebrow to the soldier. “Not going to try to arrest me or find my identity today?”
Hot Guy was mildly offended by that comment. “I don’t do that every time I see you.” He waved his hand around. “I was just about to go find you.” He opened his fisted palm.
This piqued the vigilante’s curiosity. Cute Guy looked at the hero’s hand. In it, he saw… himself.
More specifically, it was a mini version of him, chibified and turned into a plushie. “I… didn’t licence this.” The larger, unchibified and unplushified Cute Guy, grinned wryly. “Where did you get it from?”
Hot Guy raised his hand so he could look at the plush. “There was a booth stall thing in a mall I went to the other day. They sold these in a set.”
“Set?”
Magically, Hot Guy conjured up another plushie, this time it was a smaller, chibified version of him. (They didn’t change the size of his sci- sorry) “Mini me. Isn’t he adorable.”
“Absolutely.” Cute Guy deadpanned. “I’d love to have him.”
The soldier ignored the vigilante's sarcasm, instead giving the latter that mini Hot Guy.
Cute Guy took it without a word. “I might just throw it away.”
It was impossible to see behind his glasses but there was a hint of sadness in Hot Guy’s eyes. “I don’t mind.” He wasn’t being honest, but what else was he supposed to say?
Just as Hot Guy was about to say something else, Cub called, reminding him of his duty. So together, the duo took down yet another threat to the city.
~🦆~
Later at home, Grian picked up the plushie from when he dropped it onto his balcony. He took one more look at the mini hero.
Grian might have actually thrown it aside, maybe not into the bin, when he first looked at it. But now with a closer look, it really was quite cute. It couldn’t hurt to just leave it on the shelf as decoration.
So that’s where it's sat, beside a few of Ariana Griande’s music albums, presently the only Hot Guy to know Cute Guy’s civilian identity.
Mumbo walked to the door, peering through the eyehole. The ring of the doorbell still echoed in the air, causing his concern to increase.
There at the door was Grian, head down. Mumbo could see that he had flown here in a tizzy, hair messed up by harsh winds. His wings were visible, twitching weirdly and some feathers looked like they were melting into purple goop.
“Grian! What happened?” Mumbo hurriedly threw the door open to shake his friend.
Grian didn’t look down when he heard Mumbo’s voice but he was not looking at him either. “The creatu-“ Grian interrupted himself with a yelp of pain. “They didn’t get rid of it! Mumbo-“ Another groan of pain. “help.”
Mumbo didn’t know what to do. Seeing Grian in pain hurt but what could Mumbo do? He didn’t know what stopped the ‘creature’ when it happened that Halloween.
“How did they stop it last time?” Mumbo helped Grian onto the couch for more comfort.
Grian’s eyes slightly glazed over for a moment before they snapped back into focus. “Call Tango- he’ll know what to do- I think.”
The moment Grian finished his sentence, his eyes glazed over and an unearthly scream ripped from his throat. The voice was off, sounding more like feedback from a microphone.
His whole body shook in panicked fear but Mumbo managed to get Tango on the phone.
“Mumbo? What’s u-“
“Come to my house quickly! The thing from Halloween is back and Grian’s in pain!”
There was silence on the other side before Tango replied.
“On my way.” And the call ended.
The time between the end of that call and Tango’s hurried arrival was hell for the two friends. Mumbo kept his distance from Grian’s sweeping wings that kept flapping haphazardly, loose feathers and purple goop that flew around. Grian was having a significantly harder time. Fighting Motherspore for control was taking a toll on Grian’s mental capabilities.
So when Tango arrived, he was greeted with a smaller reenactment of Halloween, with the unfortunate lack of an Emerald Soldier.
“Mumbo! Are you okay?”
A thumbs-up could be seen from behind the fallen table. “I’ll be fine. How do we stop… this?”
Tango cast around the room desperately for a solution. His gaze landed on a chair near Mumbo. “Mumbo! Could you try to use the chair and trap Grian under it? Just keep him in one place for me to burn the thing off him.”
At the word burn, Mumbo kinda froze. “Will Grian get hurt?”
Tango shook his head in response. Then with his fingers, the countdown started.
Mumbo hefted the chair over his head, yelling and running towards ‘Grian’. The latter turned to look at him, eyes flashing between clarity and a chalky fog. “Sorry!” Mumbo brought the chair down, trapping ‘Grian’s’ arms and wings between the chair legs.
‘Grian’ struggled, kicking his legs, swinging his arms and flapping his wings. It was all to no avail.
Tango didn’t miss his chance. The creature possessing Grian noticed his presence. Knowing its possible downfall was arriving, ‘Grian’ struggled harder but Tango was faster.
In the next few moments, Grian was limp on the floor, the purple goop glued onto his wings losing its stickiness and sliding off.
Tango leaned against the wall, overcome from the effort. He locked eyes with Mumbo, who looked pale as a sheet.
That was certainly going to be a long day.
Motherspore walked in their forest, admiring every plant and fungus that grew under the shade of the trees. It was perfect beyond anything they wished.
“Choosing this human…” They said, reaching for a beef steak fungus (yes that’s a thing, search it up yourself). “Was a wise decision indeed.” The creature yanked the mushroom from the tree it grew on and took a bite.
They smiled to themselves. In all honesty, the vessel had been a pure coincidence. The human had been all alone in the room, unaware of his surroundings. Motherspore had just taken the opportunity, taking over. Additionally, Motherspore found the clothes the vessel wore to be very fitting.
The forest haven was only found after the vessel temporarily gained back control, hidden in the deepest recesses of his headspace. Now, the entity (Motherspore) had returned, venturing deeper into the unknown.
Motherspore took in their surroundings once more and smirked. Maybe, they would leave the vessel alone for just a while.
