In 2011, I made a glorious queen-size quilt for my first apartment with my then-fiance. It was a big project for a first-time quilter, but it worked out and has made me very happy. And I made a small #lapquilt for my grandmother for Christmas two years ago. I have been promising my mum a handmade quilt for YEARS now, but life kept interrupting, so I put this big project on the back-burner five years ago. I had bought most the fabric I thought I would need to make a simple block quilt with red, white, and blue square repeating pattern, but it ended up in boxes as I moved. Flash forward to two weeks ago. I was rifling through my craft hoard *ahem* stash and found the bag that contained all the fabric!😄 I realized that just simple squares wasn't going to do my work justice or her justice, so I made a plan and decided to sew my first #piecedquilt for her. She served in the Army and was a Field Artillery Officer, back when very few women had any major roles in combat positions. I am proud of her service and wanted to make a "patriotic" quilt for her. So, using the red, white, and blue fabric, I've come up with this! The quilt will initially be sewn on my sewing machine, then #handquilted by me. It'll be perfect as a throw blanket and fits a twin-size bed. I have the first row finished for the #quiltblocks and have 5 more rows to sew. I'm at my local #wafflehouse again for #coffee and breakfast! I'm meeting the contractor we hired to re-fix our bathroom (and other stuff as time/money allows) at #homedepot soon, but wanted to share some #coffeelove with @wafflehouseofficial this morning😘 and share some #hugs&love with all of you, too!🦊❤ I added some more goodies to make my #bulletjournal more functional for me. I sewed an elastic tie-around to my #bujo to help hold my essential pens and pencil! I would like to announce the arrival of the beautiful Addy to our home! Over the past two days, I got a yearning to go shopping and ended up finding some AWESOME sales, clearance, and #dollyfunfinds Yesterday, I went to target and a buttload of dolls were on clearance, as well as some accessory sets and clothes! I didn't get any dolls, but I did buy some accessory sets. I didn't take a pic of all of them 'cause they're gifts for some people😘 #spoilers After my #targetrun where I drooled in the aisles waaay too much, we hit a Goodwill store and picked up the Our Generation foal for $1.99!🦊❤🐎 Leocadia has an OG Thoroughbred horse that her G.G. gave her for her 3rd birthday. She named the *new* mama horse and foal after one of her current favorite tv shows: Vampirina. We now have Oxana and Vee. Adding to the fun, I found a bunch of tiny doll things, a #barbie fold-up house, and.... *Drum roll* .... An #americangirlbrand hammock for $1.99!!!🤓 I never get lucky at Goodwill, so these were super exciting finds for me! Throwback to January 1st when I had tonnes of fun with my BFF @lza_plays and Leocadia at the American Girl Bistro in MA. I had insomnia again last night, so I stayed up till 3 am and did some work. Needless to say, I didn't get up in time to take Leocadia to daycare. 😪🛏⏰😖☠ But here's the good news: The dollhouse Kitchen is finished!😄❤🦊 The rolling door works, there's plenty of room for the Leocadia and the dolls to play, and I am putting all other projects on hold until after the holiday season. I'll post more pics of the finished room soon. Right now, Leocadia is stocking it with all our doll kitchen stuff and food. I've made a *little* progress on the kitchen. I have the casing for the shelving up and all the raw edges and seams covered in paper. Admittedly, I still need to finish the windows, but I got the idea to make more shelving and a sliding door, so...here I am. 😄 Next up, making and covering the shelves in patterned paper, designing the railing and trolley system for the sliding door, making the door, and finally finishing the windows. You know, just a short list of things to do. Hopefully I won't get distrac-- Oh, look! It's finally starting act like autumn in Tennessee. It's raining. Yesterday was a balmy 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Today is around 50 and soggy. So I have a good reason to stay inside, drink more coffee and hot cocoa, and work on the dollhouse 😄 Incidentally, I decided around midnight, last night, to add onto the kitchen. It will now have shelving and a rolling style barn door. I'm working on the dollhouse kitchen today. Countertops and cupboards are now under construction. ✏📏📐✂🛠 You know what's awesome about being a creative, being a maker? That a person can do anything, make anything, fix what needs to be fixed. And have the empowerment to solve problems or puzzles, even when they require another person's help or expertise. I have friends that can create amazing things with the mediums they have chosen to express themselves with. Be that expression come through painting, needle arts, coding, building, paperarts, whatever it is, we are makers, artists, doers, and crafters. There really isn't a distinction. When it comes to self-expression, we are all part of a larger community that should embrace all of our differences. We can't afford to be elitists and exclusionary because its those innovators and dreamers that can and will push us and help us to become the best we can be. The Laundry Room is finished (for now 😉) and I am now in the process of planning and designing my next project! This one took me a little longer than I expected because I had to paint the curtain rod by hand, since I ran out of metallic silver spray paint (which would have sped up the process). The curtains are made from a handkerchief and the towels are cut up from old wash cloths that I was going to throw out. The washer and dryer are from @ogdolls and were purchased @target The small accessories are from OG and MLA sets. They are the OG Car Wash set, the OG Laundry Day set, and the MLA Cleaning Caddy set from @walmart I made the dryer sheet box, and dryer sheets, from an actual dryer sheet box. The lamp is a flow-in-the-dark lamp from @dollartree Marble paper is Recollections Scrapbook Paper is from @michaelsstores and the wood plank and brick paper is @americancrafts scrapbook paper from @joann_stores The blue paper and white floral paper is from @hobbylobby from over 10 years ago.
