In which a rupee is worth staring at for 17 hours.

Basically it's a Twilight Princess speedrun low%, but its Lu and Twilight just stares at a rupee for 17 hours as he slowly gets absorbed by the wall. Enjoy!

Legend groaned as a branch smacked right into his face for the seven-hundredth time that day. Shoving it out of his face he ducked to avoid the next incoming leafy missile.

"Twilight, where are we going that is so off road?" Legend asked as Warriors grumbled behind him. "And also, we've lost the rest of the group." Legend squinted into the trees, his hair tickling his neck as he looked for the others.

"Well, I mean they have Zelda. Plus! I wanted to see something. You see, there is this wall that I've had a particular trouble with... And you always seem to have rupees. I will need a rupee when we get there." Twilight explained, motioning to a big gate with a heavy lock on front. It was three times the size of Time (Legend groaned internally), and clearly sturdy by looking at it.

"See, I was challenged a while back to find a way into here..." Twilight started, crossing his arms and staring at the gate. "Back then, I didn't have anything with me... but now I will get past this gate." Twilight paused, turning towards Legend and Warriors. The later of which was grumbling and pulling leaves out of his hair.

"Continue.." Legend said with the most deadpan expression and voice.

"Without opening the gate." Twilight grinned, revealing sharp canines from his wolf form. "Hey one of you, pass me a rupee. Doesn't matter what kind. This is going to take a while... probably." Twilight smiled as he stood at the gate facing Legend and Warriors.

Warriors threw a blue rupee and stood back, watching as Twilight grabbed it and stared at it.

It went so long that the sun was starting to set and Legend and Warriors had made a campfire, bickering as the time passed.

"Hey Twilight?"

"Yeah?"

"You've been staring at that rupee for seven hours now. I think it knows your the stare master. Or if this is a staring contest your losing. Badly." Legend groaned, watching the unintresting display of Twilight just staring at a rupee.

"Yeah, I did warn you it would take a while."

Fourteen hours in and Twilight was still staring at a rupee. But Legend noticed something... odd.

"I'm sorry, but Twilight? Are you.... merging into the wall??" Warriors beat Legend to the chase, his eyes staring at where Twilight was clearly partly in the wall.

"Yeah, you know that one thing you can do where you phase into walls Legend? This is kind of like that, it just takes a lot of time.." Twilight laughed quietly.

"Oh for the love of hylia. You mean like one of those physic defying things?" Legend laughed. A short, barky sound. It reminded Warriors of a Rabbit.

Warriors sighed, finishing up an apple he was eating. "Well, we should probably sleep in shifts. Since we don't know where the rest of the group is and there could be monsters around."

Legend nodded. "Good place for an ambush. I'll take first and when, and if, Twilight stops staring at a rupee, I'll wake you up."

Warriors nodded and settled down. Laying out his mat, he settled on a comfortable position as Legend observed the surrounding area.

"So Twilight. Have you ever done this before?" Legend asked.

Twilight nodded. "Once. There was this gate I had to get past to fight a boss. However, I couldn't get the key, so I had to sit there staring at a rupee for 20 hours. My friend was so dumbfounded and I would say, it was worth it seeing her face." Twilight laughed quietly, his expression turning sad at the mention of his friend.

Legend groaned. "It took you 20 hours? Oh god. I have a feeling we'll be here for a very long time."

Seventeen hours of nothing, and Legend was done. He had woken Warriors up and sat down on his mat again as Warriors rubbed his eyes.

Warriors glanced at Twilight muttered "He's still at it?"

Legend nodded. "I've been timing him. Its been 17 hours."

"Geez." Warriors groaned. "At least it seems he's halfway into the gate or something."

Suddenly, Twilight jerked. Both Warriors and Legend jumped as Twilight suddenly moved, vanishing behind the gate.

They both stared at the gate, and it suddenly opened. Revealing Twilight with slightly bloodshot eyes.

"I did it! AHA I beat the challenge! I'm... I'm going to sleep." Twilight mumbled, collapsing next to Legend.

"Must of been a very interesting rupee huh?" Legend snickered.

"Right now, all I can see is blue rupees. Everything is just blue rupees now." Twilight groaned, he rolled over on his back in the grass. "I forgot how boring it is and how painful is it after. I feel so sore, I don't think I will stand for the next ten thousand years."

Warriors snorted. "Would you like some help setting up your mat?"

"Yes please."

Four: What did you guys get for the homework. Specifically number five?

Wild without looking up: Blue.

Twilight: B.

Wind: 138.7 inches squared.

Legend: Abraham Lincoln.

Hyrule: There was a question five?

Warriors: I just drew a picture.

Sky: Wait we got homework???

Four glancing down to his homework where it clearly is a true or false question.

Time clearly face palming in the background.

Alternitvely:

Time the one who gave them different homework pages and smirking at the chaos

Sky frowned, blinking at Wild as he hummed. Unaware of what impact he just said.

"I'm sorry, but you said that a person just, gave you the master sword?" Time asked, blinking slowly at Wild.

He nodded. "Yep. After I gave him 10 restless crickets.

Twilight shrugged. "Whats up with that? I got my master sword by defeating a poe."

Four frowned again, staring at them. "I have a very odd feeling that this is not normal, yet I got the four sword, though it was called the white blade (tempered) at the palace of the winds as well as, for some reason, the earth element." Four frowned, his multicolored eyes flickering with colors.

Wind nodded. "Yeah! I got my wind waker from a chest underneath a house... I don't know how it got there, but I'm not questioning it."

Time shrugged. "I got my Zora mask before I got my deku mask."

"Is that out of order or...?" "Yeah, it very much is."

Hyrule and Legend sat quietly.

"Well I don't know about any of... that, but once I got lost and got the magic boomerang before I got any bombs or swords." Hyrule tilted his head to one side.

"I once found a boss key out in the middle of nowhere. Really no clue how it got there, but Linkle got it." Warriors blinked before he resumed to sharing his sword.

Legend stared at all of them.

"Beetle did once selll me clawshots and digging mitts, as well as a heart container... for some reason. And I did get the Goddess's sword by crashing a chandiler..." Sky shrugged.

Legend blinked, processing what was happening. "All of you are a menace. I'm sorry, but Sky you crashed a chandelier?" a nod. Legend pinched his nose. "I don't exactly think that was the way you were supposed to get those items. I mean, yeah, I understand. My uncle somehow gave me magic cape.."

Epona snorted as all the links contemplated life in silence.

"Yeah, something definitely went wrong."

THIS IS SO GOOD IM CRYING 😭😭❤️❤️❤️❤️😭😭😭

hero's aspect wild still has mipha's grace, right?

i'm rereading the whole fic and i got to the bit where hyrule is sure he would've killed wild if he'd been there when they first saw him. and i thought-

well ok. what if he did. like they kill wild before sky can tell them what's really happening and everyone is horrified and then he. comes back to life. all's well that ends well! except the trauma i guess

OH MAN

Oh no!

(Oh Yes)

Aspects of a Terrible Mistake

They had messed up. They had messed up beyond messing up. ‘Messed up’ wasn’t even an appropriate word for how badly things had gone wrong.

Legend stared silently as Hyrule, sobbing, tried to pour his Life spell into a corpse. Beside him, Sky was paler than ash, his eyes wide and his lower lip trembling. Only a moment ago he had burst through the brush, panting, and shouted for them to stop, that this wasn’t a monster, it was a hero like them.

It was too late. Hyrule had shot true, his arrow going into one of the hero’s eyes and killing him instantly.

This couldn’t be happening. It couldn’t be real. It was a dream, a terrible nightmare, it-

Legend felt like the world was spinning without him. He couldn’t focus. He heard himself saying that he was going to get Time, knew distantly that he was moving through the forest towards their camp, but he was in a daze.

They’d killed a hero.

He didn’t know what he said to Time. He didn’t know what the old man said, just that his eye flew wide and he looked sick. The rest of the heroes - the heroes that hadn’t been part of the group that killed an innocent man - followed him to the river where the corpse was still lying prone and Hyrule was sobbing into his chest.

They eventually decided to give him a decent burial. It was the very least they could do. The new hero, whoever he was, was a big guy but Time could just about carry him back to camp.

They laid him out on a bedroll, as if he was only sleeping. It would take a while to dig a grave and they were determined to do this right, to clean the blood from his face and comb his hair before they buried him. They would take some of his jewellery, maybe his sword and that strange device on his hip so that they could give it to his own people if they ever went to his era.

Hyrule was still trembling as he removed the arrow from his eye and washed his face. Legend had no idea how the traveller, the sweet kind traveller, would ever forgive himself for shooting the killing shot. Legend had just been a part of the group that killed him and he felt wretched.

There was nothing he could think of to say.

Legend turned to see how the grave was getting on, and -

A gasp. The sound of someone stumbling backwards, and a whine.

Legend span around and screamed.

The dead man was no longer dead, and now was looking up at him with two wide, very frightened eyes.

What the f-

-

Link awoke with a gasp, his body aching and his head pounding. He had been dead a moment ago. He had been dead, he had been murdered and -

Oh Hylia, the boy who shot him was right beside him. Wild whined and tried to struggle away, but his limbs were heavy and numb after their temporary death. A few feet away someone screamed, a guy with pink hair who looked like he’d just seen a ghost. Which, yeah kinda.

But what the hell was going on?! He’d died in the river, but now he was in a glade, under a blanket. Were-

Were they planning to bury him? The killing boy looked like he’d been crying, what the hell was going on?!

Voices began to ring out as a group of more boys and men began to crowd around him, all looking shellshocked and disbelieving. Some, he recognised from the hunting party, others he did not. The largest of the group, a tattooed man with one eye, pushed his way through the crowd and knelt at link’s side.

“Everyone, give us some space. Sky, stay with me, help me explain.”

Link whined again, looking up at the tattooed man. Despite his intimidating figure he was looking down at him kindly. Link knew that he probably shouldn’t trust him, but he did.

-

Okay so this was all batshit crazy. According to one-eye - Time, his name was Time - they were all heroes from across time, all called link, and all drawn here by mysterious portals. Sounded like a lot of woo-woo bullshit to Link, but then Time’s friend, Sky, had let him hold his sword. The Master Sword.

Hylia, it was all true.

Call him crazy, but Link - Wild, he was now - didn’t hold a grudge. He’d died before, including by accident or at the hands of people who hadn’t realised it was him and not a monster. It was fine.

Well, it wasn’t fine, but Wild was forgiving and wanted to move on. Wanted to get to know his brothers.

It took a while. Weeks, really. He couldn’t communicate properly, couldn’t explain himself to them. Little by little, though, he broke down barriers between himself and the chain. The ones who hadn’t been in the hunt first, then one by one, the others.

Four. Warriors. Legend. Sky.

And then Hyrule. Much as Wild wanted to move on, it was hard to build a bridge with Hyrule.

He knew why the traveller had done what he did, probably would have done the same in his situation. Honestly, he was even pretty impressed by his shot!

But his subconscious was another matter. He got nervous around the traveller without any real reason, and Hyrule’s guilt was clearly affecting him too.

Then, one day on a hike the traveller had pulled out a bow as he turned to listen for monsters and Wild had jerked away on instinct. The look of shock and guilt and grief he then got from the traveller after that was horrible, and that night he found Hyrule’s bow snapped in half in a ditch.

In the end it was food that united them. Wild had seen Hyrule by the campfire and steeled himself, walking over and plopping down beside him.

Hyrule immediately made to move, to give wild space, but wild stopped him, putting a hand on his wrist. He rumbled softly, and offered his slate.

It took a while to get his meaning across, but eventually Hyrule understood that he was asking for food suggestions. The traveller would never be a great chef, but he could follow instructions and was genuinely excited to help.

It was the first time they had ever actually done something together and… it felt nice. Right. When they were done they had a damn good meal for the chain, and Wild ruffled Hyrule’s hair fondly. The traveller smiled shyly back up at him.

By the time they first made it to Wild’s world, the time Wild had be killed by Hyrule felt like a bad dream.
