Noxus' greatest export isn't war, it's greatest export are women that girl boss too close to the sun until it blows up in their faces.

Doechii's fit at the Schiaparelli Show 2025 was made for Mel Medarda š„
People saying melvika is an out of nowhere pairing because they never met in canon like yeah, sure. however
Both of Mel and Sevikaās season 2 arcs involve them making very nuanced and impassioned appeals to morality. Sevika especially spends act 1 & 2 in this really interesting position of physical weakness; having to rely on verbal argument to bring the undercity together and failing because of it. We see her pleas for unity repeatedly fall on deaf ears despite the obvious experience and thought behind what sheās saying.
Enter: Mel. You know who also spends most of season 2 getting her appeals to morality shut down? Thatās right! <3
Mel is interesting in the sense that she remains the only noncombatant character in the main cast right up until the last two episodes (even as a mage sheās not. a fighter at all - girl keeps passing out). Deescalation is always her first instinct and Sevika is repeatedly shown to be a single warning before a fight type-character.
This means, at minimum, any confrontation they have would be an argument & not a battle. That doesnāt sound like a lot, but in arcane?? Itās a fucking miracle.
Mel can be convinced through verbal debate which is something Sevika just does not encounter during the show; both characters kinda fulfil a specific need the other has narratively. I think a lot about the line in Melās flashback āKino says war is a failure of statecraft.ā -> itās a defining line for Melās character in general, but itās interesting for melvika in the sense that I think Sevika agrees. Sevika uses physical violence as a form of resistance against state violence, but sheās not a soldier. She views citizen violence as a method of showing the stateās failures to itself.
Thereās SO much to be explored thematically about melvika & the nature of physical violence, it makes me a little insane. Mel has only ever encountered it as a hunt; invading armies and conquest. Sevika views it as a form of communication and beyond that - resistance, as the only avenue left to stand against oppression. Mel needs to learn that war isnāt the only thing that hurts people, her upbringing as a Noxian has skewed her perception of violence in general.
It should be a way bigger deal some other party figured out how to construct their own version of shimmer, and by some other party, I mean Noxus.
The only person who had access to new shimmer was Lest, and Lest's people belong to a branch of the vastaya that live within Noxus' territory.
The most worrying aspect of this version of shimmer is that it's been modified to create tattoos on its users.
We've already seen Viktor's own experiments with runes and shimmer in the first season.
And now we know from the Ambessa book that not only are rune tattoos a real thing that mages use to modify their magic in Mel and Rudo's case, but the Black Rose is also actively trying to create their own rune warriors out of mages AND non-mages. In fact Jinxās shimmer altered body shares a lot of similar abilities as the rune warriors in the book, right down to the super speed, enhanced strength, and improved endurance, with side effects more reminiscent of the chemtank soldiers.
This kind of development is such neat twist to the finale, because it all comes back to what Ambessa said, "weapons cannot be unmade and they are always used". Piltover may have forcefully dearmed Zaun from its shimmer and even put it's own hextech on the back burner, but that isn't the end. The arms race is still going on, Piltover's just put itself and Zaun out of commission.
so⦠yeah. Sevika thirst trap that I forgot to post here.

Kinda obsessed with those early concept art of Mel that came out recently, especially that half suit version, so here is my interpretation of it (I kinda mixed that design and elements of her final one). She just looked so gorgeous, I couldn't resist šāāļøāØ

The Black Rose is so much more powerful and influential than I realized. They have control over so many families, have mages, rune soldiers, and demons at their disposal. Good luck to Mel; she's gonna need it.
I also think Mel lovers need to mentally prepare themselves for the tough choices she's gonna have to make and the grim situations she'll find herself in. I know we all want her to be happy, especially after everything that happened, but I don't think she's gonna find that happiness anytime soon. I think she's gonna go through some serious shit.
Her whole family is dead, and her family has fallen from high places; Mel is smart and knows she's gonna need allies, and many would need something from her in exchange. A lot also have secret motives and agenda.
Rell is a sure ally for her, is what I know. But still, it's gonna be hard...
ouu i love her

I think it's kinda interesting how Mel doesn't really fit into the disposable black girlfriend trope and yet a lot of fandom still treats her like she does.
The poor writing with Mel puts her in the independent black woman stereotype (even though she was very much not independent) more than the disposable black girlfriend trope. It doesn't take Jayce loving Mel to have some sort of epiphany about Viktor. It takes him literally having to eat raw lizards with a shattered leg in the depths of a cave, and the epiphany he has isn't even a positive one. He doesn't have to be "freed" from Mel or dispose of her to be with Viktorāthey were torn apart by circumstance and he had a moral obligation to be with Viktor.
Basically what I'm saying is that if you need to discredit and disrespect a character in order to make your ship work you need to do some self reflecting.
But I've participated in ship wars and I'd rather just talk about the whole "independent black woman thing" because it has to do with her as an individual, rather than as a part of a pair or an obstacle.
"Mel is a queen" she's not. She's stunning and an amazing character but she very much is not. Mel is so dependent on other people. She needed the council to work in her favour in order to achieve her personal goals. She needed Jayce and Elora to be vulnerable with. It makes Ambessa's treatment towards her all the more hurtful; she needed her mother, and her mother's approval, and was punished for it. I don't think we actually take the time to comprehend how devastating it would be to be, what, 19-20 years old and be exiled because you were too soft for your mother, only to be told years later that it was actually because your she loved you and she didn't want to (if my mother told me she kicked me out because I weakened her I'd probably instantaneously die of a broken heart). Obviously it was more complex than that, but Mel is the child in this situation; she is not going to see it through Ambessa's eyes nor would she want to.
Mel likely got really good at feigning independence but I doubt that, with the way she grew up and the service she would've been able to afford in Piltover, she even knew how to cook. I'm sure she depended on other people not only for the major aspects of her life but also just to keep her basic needs in order. And she's not strong either; because she was raised in Noxus she can likely fight with knives and swords, but it's not like she was this phenomenal mage when she got her powers.
I hope the Noxus show doesn't pretend that she's some strong and independent person, because that's not what Mel has ever been. She's smart and savvy and shrewd but not independent. I love her so much but I'd rather see a real portrayal of herāprobably struggling not only with her magic but with trying to stand up on her ownāthan the fake solo act it's easy to pretend that she is.
Sevika reminded me of a puppy when she makes that expression, so I ended up drawing her like this

i donāt think we talk about the loss of bodily autonomy that came with black roseās expansion of melās sigils enough
melās experience of getting the tattoo was, sans the secret magic dad and free part, pretty reflective of my ownāthe excitement, the rebelliousness, the satisfaction of seeing your skin marked by something you chose that is beautiful
and then the black rose arrives, and while still beautiful, i canāt emphasize enough that this a huge shiftāthe lines run over her whole body, even her face. theyāre permanent and they were not melās choiceāthat gold she thought of as her jewelry and armor is now an impossible to escape reminder of trauma and death
i donāt know, thereās such a potential for a unique brand of body horror here
WIP of two love birds that I think you guys will LOVE
Itās completely fine to critique Mel for being a councilor and neglecting the undercity, because that is the reality of her character. She believes that the method of gaining power is the problem without realizing that the power disparity itself causes harm. But to say that she is cruel or outright classist when she actively works against these ideologies and is always using her power to do what she believes is best⦠Mel Medarda haters you are NEVER safe here.
