Opening on December 11th, 2021 at The Valley Gallery in Taos, New Mexico is artist Rae Klein’s solo exhibition, “Waiting in the Field.”

Through painting, Klein explores where the line is when events cross from in to out of one’s control.  Subtle emotions from the realization that one is becoming powerless translate into visual detail.

Midoryia Izuku

- he was fixing the leg on one of the chair in the commons when a kid jumped on him

- he coughed and sat up in alarm

- he almost hit the chair ngl

- “DADDY!! Hi! You’ll never guess what happened today! A kid got her quirk in class and then she lost control and then it hit me! Wait why are you so tiny and small? Did you shrink or something? And why are you so soft?” she poked his cheek a couple times

- he just blinked at her

- she looked about 7?

- he couldn’t help but notice she was a literal carbon copy of him

- well her hair was long and sort of like yours but it was green

- and her eye shape looked like yours

- he blushed a bit at catching himself comparing her to you

- “um hello? Whats your name?” he asked her as he shifted a bit to look at her better

- “d-daddy you don’t know my- my name??” she was about to cry

- he panicked

- his arms were flying around everywhere

- “NO NO I- I know your name!” he lied trying to save her from crying

- she smiled and hopped off him

- honestly he was lucky she had a back pack on her with her name on it or else he never would have figured it out

- he got a bag of fruit snacks out of the pantry and handed it to her

- “so Sakura where does your mom work?” he asked her as she ate

- maybe he could drop her off there

- “come on daddy you know this, she works with you at the deku-(your hero name) agency” she said calmly

- dekus face went red again

- that was his hero name

- he stuttered out words that didn’t make a lot of sense

- the little girl turned to him and grabbed both his hands

- she placed them on her cheeks and squirshed her face in between them

- he gave her a puzzled look

- “well this is what mommy does when you started freaking out, I thought it would work,” she smiled up to him

- he had tears in his eyes on hearing that

- ok 

- so he had his kid from probably the future sitting next to him at the table

- now what

- well the universe had an answer for that

- and the answer was your ass chasing one Denki Kaminari at high speed through the front door

- “DENKI KAMINARI, YOU IDIOT IM GOING TO PUNCH YOU SO HARD YOULL BE STUCK IN THE CEILING FOR A WEEK!” you yelled

- the blonde squeaked before bolting to Midoriya

- “MIDORIYA! You have to help me!” he begged, not seeing the small girl next to him

- “w-what did you do?” he hadnt seen you this mad since Bakugou had blown up your homework on accident

- “I- I might have failed at hitting Kirishima and shocked Y/n with a lot of volts,” it all came out in a rush

- your growled at him and he ran up the stairs before anything else could happen

- you were about to follow before you fully took in your surroundings

- Midoriya was here

- there is a small child next to him

- they just saw you basically growled

- shit

- “umm- heyy~” you smiled a bit and flattened your hair down to look a bit nicer

- “hi y/–”

- “MAMA!! GUESS WHAT HAPPENED TODAY!”

- Sakura bounded up to you

- you reflexively dropped and she jumped to hug you

- you blinked at the floor before looking to Midoriya

- “Izuku whats happening?” you mouthed to him

- he opened his mouth to respond but nothing came out

- he could just stare as your attention got drawn back in my the girl at she adamantly told you her earlier story

- the similarities between him and Sakura were obvious but when she stood next to you it was obvious you two were related some how

- everything subtle about her was you

- honestly he caught on quickly and there was a serge of pride

- all he was thinking was that you both did a good job

- he smiled at you both 

- his heart swelled at you being so motherly

- he gulped though when you gave him a knowing glance

- you were smart

- you had eyes

- so you joined their little snack break, turning to the boy after showing the girl where the waters were

- “Im taking this as a sign”

- “a- a sign for wh- what?”

- “a sign I should ask you out now”

- he stuttered out a yes for almost five minutes

- Sakura had come back in the middle of it and hopped in his lap

- that didnt help

- she ended up going back about an hour later

- almost gave Izuku a heart attack

Shinsou Hitoshi

- so you were the one that this one starts with

- you were coming out of the shower when you found a boy looking to be 15 sitting on your bed

- you verbally yelled

- you were lucky you changed in the bathroom

- “GET OUT WHAT THE FUCK!” you had your math book in your hand and above your head in seconds

- “WAIT DONT SWING HOLD ON MOM!” he yelled and hopped up before thinking

- “WHO ARE YOU CALLING MOM?!”

- “PUT THE BOOK DOWN IM SORRY!” he panicked

- you looked at him for a second before slowly putting your ‘weapon down’

- “who are you”

- “well um I don’t think you’ll believe me but uhh i’m your son,” he sat down on your bed again

- you gave him a look

- he sighed

- “well I- ok well ya see Chiyo- oh crap I mean my sister- just got her quirk and it’s weird time travel or warps or something like that and I was watching her and Aron- my brother- while you and dad were out on a date and she lost control or something and now I’m here and I don’t know,” he sighed, putting his head in his hands

- you stared at him

- he did look like you 

- like a lot like you

- the only thing that wasn’t you was the small features that made him more defined

- “are the other two here to?” you asked sitting down in your desk chair

- “I- I think so? I don’t know where though and I knew this was your old room so I thought I’d ask you if you’d seen them,” he sighed again “ugh I’m sorry mom”

- you were starting to grasp everything now

- “its alright you didn’t do anything,” you smiled when he looked up at you. “well lets go find the other two… um”

- “koshi”

- “koshi” you repeated

- you were both walking around the campus looking for the other two

- he told you different things that wouldn’t ruin the future

- he said Chiyo was the youngest, almost 6

- Aron was 10

-  you had to stop him a lot from saying to much

- you both had found your way to a training area when all might caught both of your attentions

- “Y/N!” the retired hero yelled over to you

- he had a small girl hold his hands that also looked suspiciously like you

- well minus the eyes they were a bright purple and the violet streak that ran through her hair

- “all might?” Koshi sounded amazing at the sight of him

- you laughed a bit

- Chiyo let go of his hand and sprinted to you

- “ MAMA I WAS SO SCARED! But the mr all might helped me! Oh oh and Koshi! Yay!” he patter her head when you picked her up

- he was still overly amazed by all might

- like midoriya level interested

- all might came to talk to you both

- you dont blame him 

- you bumped koshis arm to get him to ask for an auto graph before walking a little away to give them some space

- then Shinsou and Aizawa came around the corner

- you didnt see at first, to preoccupied with the girl in your arms that acted way to much like you to be healthy

- but shinsou sure as heck noticed you

- he had had a ten year old run straight in the middle of a training session a half an hour ago and almost kicked him in the gut

- and when the basically mini shinsou started going on a rant about now knowing where the heck Chiyo and Koshi were he was left completely confused

- Aizawa was the one who ended up getting the kid to calm down and tell them his name and enough info to find whoever he was talking about

- “alright hold on who did you say your parents were?” aizawa asked while pinching the bridge of his nose

- “Hitoshi and Y/n Shinsou,”

- shinosu spat the water out he was drinking

- aizawa eyes widened

- the kid was clearly to old for that to be right now

- then he told them how he got there and they all went to go find you

- when they found you with a little girl and a boy talking to all might they knew who the kids were right away

- “Oh Shinsou Hey!!” you adjust the girl and waved to him

- he gave you a small wave and came up to you with Aron on his heels

- “mom! thank goodness” the ten year old came up and hugged you “woah is that all might?!” you laughed and nodded before he went and joined his brother

- “so um.. Y/n I have something to tell you,” shinsou rubbed the back of his neck when you smiled at him

- he opened his mouth to talk when Chiyo cut him off

- “whos y/n?” she looked between you two. 

- “well that would be me,” you smiled at her and poked her sides

- she laughed a bit “no, daddy always calls you ‘love’ or ‘kitty’, thats your name mama” she giggled

- shinsou audibly gulped

- you smiled and raised your eyebrows at shinsou

- “you figured it out didnt you”

- you laughed

- “oh what? The fact that our entire family is here?” 

- shinsou sighed and nodded

- the boys came running back over to you two, both with papers in hand and incredibly big smiles while all might went over to aizawa to ask what the heck was happening

- “oh dad! Hi! you were a lot smaller when you were my age,” Koshi snorted at that last part while Aron started showing of his autograph to you

- “hey im not that small ya brat”

- “lot smaller than you are when we’re around,” Koshi shot back

- definitely has shinsous attitude

- “hey mommy, why IS daddy so tiny?” the girl in your arms asked

- you and the boys both busted out laughing at that one

- shinsou took the girls from your arms and started poking her sides quickly as she laughed

- “why you little” he said as she laughed

- you all ended up having a family day

- they ended up running into midoriya and all of them rushed him yelling about Uncle deku

- oh so i get stuffed on being small but not him” shinisou muttered next to you

- you snorted at that one

- they ended up all disappearing and going back around 9 that night

- and Shinsou finally had a good opening to ask you out

Shoji Mezo

- we all know that there is nothing in this boys room except his desk and bed right

- so when he was chilling on the balcony and heard a soft thud he knew nothing had fallen and was like

- huh now?

- so he turn around

- and finds a little girl?

- she looks like 5? maybe?

- shes looking around her from her spor on the floor

- she looks super calm too like

- whats going on

- Shoji just walks into his room slowly so he doesn’t scar her

- he pulled up his mask before heading in and kneeling down

- “hello?” he just sits in front of her a little distance away

- he really doesn’t want to freak her out

- she whips around to him and her smile is so freaking big

- she jumps on him

- “PAPA!!” shes so happy right now

- he doesn’t know what to do

- papa?? hes not a dad? maybe he looks like her dad, ya thats it

- “I- um how did you get in here?” he asked as he put a hand on his back

- she let go of his neck and and plops herself down in his lap and starts ranting about this annoying kid in her class

- his name is Kano and he always over does his actions

- shojis impressed with how she talks ngl

- kinda sounds like him as a kid

- she gets to the part on when he pointed his hand at her and some light happened and she ended up here

- “anyways papa wheres mommy?” she stands u on his knee and smiled at him

- “uhhh,” he doesn’t exactly know what to do for a second

- then she started talking again

- she seemed to talk a lot

- it kind of reminded him of how you for into your rants 

- “wait why are you wearing your mask?”

- he froze

- what? does she wan him to take it off? why? 

- “you don’t normally wear your mask with me? are you uncomfortable with me now?”

- once again he was impressed by how she talked for a five year old

- he couldn’t really dwell on it to long cause she was getting teary eyed and her lip in wobbling

- he panics a bit

- he doesn’t have to much experience with kids or how to stop crying

- then the light of his life and savior came through the door

- now you two had already been dating

- so you just coming into his dorm was completely normal

- “Hey babe! I brought some snacks and my dvd play– oh are you…. busy?” you entered and looked up

- you blinked at the girl that was almost crying in his lap

- at least until she physically brightening

- she kicked of of the large boy and ran into you

- “MOMMY!!” she basically screamed before latching onto your leg

- you were very confused honestly

- mommy who now?

- shoji was suspiciously red in the corner

- he had noticed how she had looked like you

- minus the hair color and eyes

- you bent down a bit and picked her up on reflex

- “uh shoji? whats happening?”

- “I dont know”

- both of you agreed that you need to go tell mr aizawa

- so you walked there, the little girl messing with your hair

- “by the way, what your name tiny?” you asked, bumping you hip to readjust her a bit

- “mama you know my name,” she giggled 

- you thought for a second

- “but do you?”

- “of course I do mommy!! It’s Aniko!!” she huffed and crossed her arms

- shoji watched you both from his spot next to him

- he never would have come up with something that fast to figure out her name

- when aizawa saw the kid in your arms he looked between you two before sighing

- after shoki said what happened he said that they would figure it out in the morning and just have her stay with one of you tonight

- she was already falling asleep on your shoulder anyways

- so you both just walked back to your dorm setting her in your bed before shoji and you stepped out for a minute

- “I am so sorry about this,” he sighed

- yo just laughed

- “oh dont worry hun. Shes funny. Not to mention Im pretty perfect if I do say myself,” you smiled up to your boyfriend

- he smiled at your little display of pride

- so you both went in the room, he kissed your daughters forehead, then kissed you and left for his room

- you noticed the girl slightly fading as you tucked her in and had a feeling she would be gone by morning

- shoji freaking a bit when he opened your door and found no child but caught on fairly fast lol
