when u grow up
he’s nervous
in the latest cyber-news: the internet archive has lost their case against 4 major publishing houses (verge article). they’re going to appeal, but this is still a bad outcome. the fate of the internet is currently hanging in the balance because 4 multibillionare publishing groups missed out on like $15 of combined revenue during the pandemic because of the archive’s online library service. it’s so fucking stupid.
for those who don’t know what the internet archive is, it’s a virtual library full of media. books, magazines, recordings, visuals, flash games, websites - a lot of these things either don’t exist anymore or cannot be found & bought. heard of the wayback machine? that’s part of the internet archive. it is the most important website to exist, and i don’t say that lightly. if the internet archive goes down, the cultural loss will be immeasurable.
so how can you help?
boycott the publishing companies involved in this. they’re absolute ghouls, frankly, and don’t deserve a penny. the companies involved are harpercollins (imprints), wiley (imprints), penguin random house llc (imprints), and hachette book group (imprints). make sure the websites are set to your location as it may differ worldwide.
learn to torrent. download a torrent client (i recommend transmission), a vpn (i recommend protonvpn - sign up and choose the area that’s closest to your continent/country), and hit up /r/piracy on reddit for websites. with torrenting, you can get (almost) any media you want for free in high quality, with add-ons such as subtitles, and with no risks of loss. i would also recommend getting into the habit of watching stuff online for free. the less you can pay to a giant corporation, the better.
get into the habit of downloading and archiving materials. find a TB external hard drive, ideally the higher the better. it’ll probably cost around $60 for 1TB and continue to go up, but they’re so so useful. if you can’t afford a drive, look for any GB harddrives or memory sticks you have lying around and just fill them up. videos, pdfs, magazines, songs, movies, games - anything you can rip and download and fit on there, do it, because nothing is permanent.
donate to the internet archive. this is the most important option on the list. the IA relies entirely on funding, and it’s going to need more to fight this case. whatever you can donate, do it. i promise it’s helpful.
and finally…
I love her sm 😣 yall don't understand
Consumed with thoughts about how Rip is fully capable of turning his power off but still wears an eyepatch and keeps his eye injury because it's a reminder of his failure to save Layla and how it's quite literally a wound he refuses to let heal
Okay, I wanted to share this story with you because you've brought up this manga few times and are probably one of the reasons that I finally decided to read it after all this time...!! 😆:
So back in either late 2020 or in early 2021, my brother had a great idea to read a bunch of first chapters of some manga with me and our best friend. I believe the reason for this was because he wanted to expand the amount of stories that we could possibly get into, besides the ones that we were already currently reading at the time (like My Hero Academia and Fire Force to be exact...!!) One of the manga he picked was Undead Unluck, but we didn't continue past the first chapter, though I was still quite interested in reading it...
Fast forward to 2023 and I see you mention the series a few times as well as finding out that an anime of the series is coming out this year, and that made me even more interested in reading Undead Unluck...! Shoot, I even started getting videos recommended to me about why you should read Undead Unluck on YouTube...!! 😅
And then, last week on Thursday, I finally decided to read it... AND NOW I'M A FAN!! 😆 I absolutely adore this series now and part of me wishes that I continued reading it back when me, my brother and best friend read the first chapter... But honestly, I'm just glad that I finally decided to read Undead Unluck after all this time!! 😁
I'm currently on chapter 68, but I'll probably end up reading passed that point later today...!! 😄
(I'm glad you liked it lol, it is an amazing series, it never stops surprising with the creativity put in the action)
nothing fills you with greater false confidence than managing to wake up early once
You can only reblog this today.
There is a castle in the woods, where one can get lost in the fog. Once you enter, you can get lost in the chaos. The rooms can be modern or ancient, clear or cluttered, but it is tailored to the person that inhabits it. The halls are twisty and long, with the only through-line being your way back to your room.
When you wander through the castle, you will meet spirits and see paintings that seem like they could have been made hundreds of years ago, or yesterday, you can’t really tell. One of the spirits is telling you about the history of bread, you like it. Others are interjecting with facts about pastries and sweets, but you just want to hear about bread.
You can leave, yes, but you want to go back, you want to keep exploring the castle. There are areas where you meet people with similar interests and engage in their communities. You all have different perspectives, but it doesn’t seem to bother you. You engage in debates, some important, some inane. You are walking and you fall through the floor and enter a new community. You enjoy it.
The grounds have different plants, both beautiful and odd. You are looking for a specific tree you once saw, you follow the same path but it’s not there. You ask others and they say they’ve seen it, but can’t remember where it is. You ask another friend, you describe it down to its smallest detail, but your friend says that they’ve never seen it and that it probably doesn’t exist, you give up. Later you find yourself wandering, enjoying the wildlife when you see a tree, and there it is! The tree! You found it on accident and now take a picture so you can remember it, and then you leave.
Today is chaotic and the castle has music of all different styles echoing throughout the halls. It sounds nice, and you dance along with the others. You’re all dancing in different patterns and speeds, but it’s fun. You like it. It’s a nice escape from the unhappy chaos and strife of the world.
There is news from the outside today, something happened in one of the communities, then another, and another and another and another until the entire day full of news and questions and earthshattering reveals. In the next few days, you think about what happened, you think about the chain reactions and reverent irreverence that everyone treated it with. It was fun, you realize, and you want something like it to happen at least once a year.
Another castle has news in the next few months. You are aware of the other castles, as those castles are, in fact, more commonly used amongst the world. This castle, the one you are in, is one of the older ones and is seemingly ignored. You don’t know why they ignore it, the castle and the people are fun. The other castles seem to always be upset or seem too boring to engage in.
The other castle’s patron has kicked someone out. You didn’t know the patrons could do that. Strange, the person seems to have been doing bad things for a while, why only now? Furthermore, why let similar people stay if they really want those people out. You’re confused now.
The community is excited. You’re all waiting for the bad person to come here, so you may torment them and make them leave as they did with another bad person. Your patrons have a hands-off approach to the castle, letting you sort yourselves out and only stepping in when absolutely necessary. It is how it has always been.
You’re glad you came to the castle. It’s strange and chaotic and noisy, but it’s also open and accepting. You found a place to rest from the world’s troubles. It’s nice here. You wouldn’t trade it for the world.
YES
rb if you’re in the weird zone of gen-z where you’re too young to remember old disney, but too old to know new disney, so instead you just remember shows like good luck charlie, phineas and ferb, shake it up, a.n.t. farm, jessie, austin and ally, and dog with a blog.
