I think maybe people need to remember that the reason people will often assume Asexual also means Aromantic or will Assume people are AroAce if they are one of those identities isn't because AroAces are muddying the narrative of what Aspec is but actually because a lot of society doesn't understand what the hell the split attraction model is.

Most people cannot conceptualize Romance and Sex as two separate things. For most people, Romantic attraction and Sexual attraction are the same or go hand in hand. They hear "I'm not interested in sex" and assume you must also not be interested in romance because to them romance cannot exist without sex. The same can be said for vice versa.

So please, PLEASE, stop framing this issue as something aroaces caused. Please start going after the actual core of the issue, which is societies lack of knowledge and understanding of split attraction. AroAces are not you enemy here. We are not the ones causing you to be mistaken as AroAce. We can work together to solve this if only you would stop shoving us away due to fear of even being associated with us.

Just a psa for fic writers who use the “trauma bond” tag, please make sure you’re using it correctly. A trauma bond is not two people who experience similar trauma and bond over it. It’s a carefully curated, manipulative bond between abuser and victim to keep the victim coming back because of the addictive highs and lows that come with abuse.

If you want to tag two characters bonding over shared trauma, a good substitute tag would be “bonding over shared trauma.” Trauma bonding is, by definition, an abusive relationship and may steer people who have experienced it away from your fic. Please spread the word and happy writing!

The frenzied, desperate hope in James’s voice made the tears fall from Regulus’s eyes, too, and it was all he could do to pull his arm away and turn his back.

“Why, Reg?” James’s voice broke at that, so raw and vulnerable that Regulus almost fell to the floor with the weight of his choice. But he couldn’t go back now.

“I…I’ve always told you. This is who I am. I’m…They…I had to,” Regulus whispered, his back still turned, his hands shaking. The half-truths ate at him just as much as James’s ruined expression. “I…I made my choice.”
