I’m going to post a new series where my friends and I write a story together! To be safe I’m going to hide there names under usernames, and I’d like to ask others not to post in the tags so others can find the stories easy. Thank you guys for all the follows, likes, and reblogs so far, I can’t wait to see how far this series goes! (Clearly to the point where I’m painfully trying to hold the story together with my black pen.)

Yes you may have heard of the back rooms, and maybe even listened to “tales” of other liminal spaces. However the fact that has been discerned by the public that to “get in” you have to glitch through the Earth? That certainly is not true. Instead, you’re brought by 連れ去られた者, or “Tsuresara.” They pick and choose who to bring to there maze of winding corridors randomly. Maybe it’s because they want some entertainment, or to see a little game of theirs play out, eh?
Now you certainly aren’t the lucky one, getting dragged down through several layers of the Earth as soon as the Tsuresara see you. You had just been walking home from school, and it wasn’t possible for you to know that it had been so lonely and boring for so long that the Tsuresara just wanted a new plaything!
After all, the Bacteria, as you humans call it, only gets the privilege of company when the Tsuresara brings someone. Us entity’s down here call him 避けられない, or Sakerarenai, but if we were to give him a name it would likely be a word shortened from the term, Sake. Only 7 letters short from the whole name, but very far from humans… alcoholic sake.
And me? Just call me Wisp, the recorder of those beyond our reach.
Which is funny because you are now in the arms of a “monster” quite close to our reach. And he isn’t how he’s portrayed in your “video games” you play of his home. Well… at least his attitude is different towards you. Let me explain.
TW: Kidnapped? Stalking, a room eating corpses, stealing? Murderous, and let me know if I missed anything else through asks!
Yan! Sake who is glad to see someone after so long! How long has it been… 7 weeks? 47 months? 8 years? It doesn’t matter! Sake’s been so people deprived, whether it was supposed to be a torture method from the Tsuresara, or that they have been waiting for the right person to confine to the space they call home, makes him appreciate your company A LOT more. Now he finally has someone to bounce his energy and thoughts off of! You make the empty space feel a lot warmer with just your presence. Oh boy are the Tsuresara going to enjoy watching this game play out.
Yan! Sake who doesn’t understand why you start running as soon as you lay those beautiful irises on his form. They shine like jewels, and he wished he got to look at them more before you turned around and sprinted in the opposite direction. Instinctively he followed you, captivated by your appearance and how different it was compared to everything here.
You see, it wasn’t that he had been so isolated that he forgot what humans looked like, no. He would never forget his sources of entertainment! It was just that he’s been so used to seeing the bodies of other entity’s and himself that he’s just gotten used to it. But if you don’t like it, he’ll change! Anything for you…
Yan! Sake who gives up his relentless pursuit of you after he sees that this chase is going nowhere. Instead, he’ll have to play a classic game of cat and mouse with you. It isn’t what he wants to do since it seems like he just witnessed Aphrodite appear in front of him, but he’ll bide his time and wait… And oh boy did he find good opportunity’s. Whenever you aren’t looking around in your unfamiliar surroundings, or you’re scavenging for sustenance, he’s there whether you know it or not. Always watching from a distance… wondering how you’re so effortlessly cute.
Yan! Sake may not be a man of many words, but apparently he’s a man of romantic advances. Who would’ve guessed? He hasn’t been THIS attached to a human in his entire life. But unlike how a humans heart is tethered to their body, something like a gold necklace or a silver ring is easily separable, which is something Sake knows. So when he sees you’re resting for a while, he slips away to go visit an entity the humans don’t know called 嘆き, or Nageki.
Nageki doesn’t speak, but instead it’s the floor in a specific room that is this “entity.” The floor is… alive, one might say as sometimes the floor dips or bulges slightly when the entity breaths quietly. You’d have to put your ear to the floor to hear its breathing but don’t stay there for too long, because the longer you stay, the more you decay.
Though Sake isn’t here to put his ear to the floor, he’s here for the corpses. Ever wonder why you don’t see dead bodies in the back rooms but you may see random items?
It’s because Nageki eats their flesh and spits out everything else.
Whether it be clothes or jewelry, it spits it out because Nageki is fed by human flesh, and when it isn’t fed, you can hear it breathing louder and see the dips and swells of the floor a lot clearer.
But its eating habits are exactly why Sake is here.
Being immune to the effects of decay, Sake steps into the middle of the room as life silently pulses through its walls and floors. Reaching downward to the floor, its able to hook a cold gold chain through its mutated hay bacillus “fingers” and lift them up to see a gold outline in the shape of a diamond, with an actual diamond. They both glint in the light, but he doesn’t stop to admire it. Not only does it not interest him (because he’s seen something gorgeous, you), but because he doesn’t know when you’ll move.
So sneaking back like before, he finds you just starting to get up from your resting place to continue your relentless exploration.
What you don’t know though is that when you fully stand up, Sake has already placed the necklace near you silently. And when you start taking random directions and turns in this place of winding corridors, you somehow stumble upon it. You look around to make sure Sake isn’t near (but you don’t see him behind you), then bend down and much to Sake’s delight, pick up the necklace.
Even though you stuff it in your pocket to sell later when you get out of this place, Sake doesn’t care. He knows you’ll wear it one day… And he can’t wait when that day comes and he can see his goddess dressed in the spoils that others don’t deserve… And if you don’t like it? That’s ok! He’ll carve up anyone until you find a piece of jewelry you like! (Even though you may never wear them because who trusts anything from this place?)
Yan! Sake who actually happens to be very uneducated. Any of the words you see is either Sake finding something to draw with, or the effect of a human passing by that luckily had something to write with. Why does Sake draw you ask? It’s because he’s trying to communicate with you silly! Sure he doesn’t have that expanse of a vocabulary, only writing the words he hears the Tsuresara’s victims say without a giant understanding of it, which can turn out as well as you imagine. But if it makes you happy, he’ll learn every word he can so he can spell out his love for you in big red letters!
Surprisingly, without being attended to by humans, or having visible air conditioners or heaters, the famous liminal space known as “the backrooms” had a normal temperature. Of course you wouldn’t have known since there was only two survivors, but the more important fact was that they were both dead.
But no, not you. You wouldn’t end up the same like them.
You continued speed walking around the place to conserve your energy, feeling suspicious due to the lack of monsters. Sure, the normal person who would get dragged into the backrooms would feel very happy and relieved unlike you, but the very fact that entity’s weren’t breathing down your neck made every hair on your body stand on end with unease.
In such a hostile space, the absence of enemies usually only meant one thing. That they were planning an ambush. Now you didn’t know if they were smart enough to make a cohesive plan like that, but you didn’t doubt their strong will. After all, as soon as you entered their space, you were chased down by The Bacteria like you were a lottery ticket with winning numbers blowing in the breeze.
With a sigh you brush a stray hair back behind your ear and try to calm your mind. There was nothing you could do about it now, and you had to make the best of the situation while you still could. After all, you don’t know how long you had been in this maze. Days? Months? Years? You did know though that you couldn’t stay for long. The sparse amounts of food and water located around this space wouldn’t stay constant forever, so you preferred to escape sooner rather than later.
You continued to walk along a wall you’ve been following, sliding your hand along the long tan wall, desperate for some texture to keep you mentally grounded. It had been a cycle of walking ever since you started what was pretty much a prison sentence here. You continued walking, listening to the silence surrounding you until you stopped in shock.
The wall you were walking along dipped to make a square indent, but it wasn’t the indent that made you barely believe your eyes. It was that a firm steel door was in the wall, with green exit sign and a man running through some kind of door. Your heart raced, power surging through your body signifying your return of strength as you stared at the door in front of you, appearing like a flower that bloomed and revealed all of its petals. Showing its true colors that wasn’t some shade of beige or tan, and is instead gray and green, the most hopeful colors you could see right now.
You pulled your hand off the wall excitedly, rushing to the door like a toddler would into a candy store. The appeal of the freedom was the only thought that was in your head right now, but all of a sudden you’re pushed back by an invisible force. The force was alike when one plays a video game, but can’t go forward because an NPC with an invisible boundary was in the way.
Feeling confused, you sit up and look at the metal door, wondering what happened.
Some kind of thing… possibly an unknown or unregistered entity had spawned in front of the door, blocking your way. It didn’t have any feet but instead was floating a bit above the ground, having an icy cold blue stare. It didn’t have a mouth, but it did have what looked like a translucent light blue sheet draped over it.
Upon meeting its gaze, your eyes widened and your heart rate sped up. What was this? Why did it appear now?!?! Was it going to hurt you?
You stood up, desperate to get to the door behind this unheard of entity. It remained there, staring back at you when you suddenly got an idea. Even though it may not have a mouth, perhaps it was able to communicate with humans like yourself? You had no other option now, so you thought you might as well try.
“I… I need to get to the door behind you,” You stutter at the beginning as its unwavering gaze burned holes into your soul. This creature didn’t seem to blink at all, which only made it more unsettling. “Please?” You finish, hoping it was just waiting for the “magic word” like adults do sometimes.
Yet it didn’t budge or respond in anyway.
Though you didn’t have time to speak before something hooked itself around your waist, causing you to look down. Your blood runs cold as you see the familiar arms from a mutated strain of hay bacillus that the bacteria has. The strange entity was staring at you the whole time, making it perfect for the organism known only to you as “The Bacteria” to sneak up behind you and cling to you tightly.
In a flash you fall on your stomach with a scream as his “hands” move to your feet, dragging you across your floor. You look up and see the entity still looking at you, still not moving. It makes you realize that the two of them were in cahoots, and you can’t help but want to cry as you watch your opportunity for freedom disappearing right in front of your eyes.
You continue screaming and try to kick and struggle but to no avail. He continues dragging you further and further away until the door isn’t in sight anymore, and the creature in front of your only hope eventually disappears. A feeling of despair pools in your chest as you’re forced to watch him take you past pathways you’ve spent hours following, just praying for an exit.
Even though your throat is hoarse from screaming continually, you push out one final scream using the rest of the air in your lungs, parting your lips for a very audible yell that echoes around the place for a bit.
Yet again it doesn’t work, and it never will. That was the last scream you let out before the darkness captured you again, ensnaring you so tightly that you’ll never leave again.
Ps: This took so long, sorry for the delay! Starting to run out of ideas, so I’ll probably do a yandere version of every Project Sekai character unless I receive any asks cause y’all eating this yandere stuff up. 😋
I have been making this illustration of an original card for my friend (whose name had been blacked out.) She’s from wonderlands x showtime, and I’m absolutely crying inside that I’m going to have to make another one of these but at least it wouldn’t have as many people anymore. Part of the reason why I haven’t been posting as much :’)
”Let’s have the best barbeque bash ever!”
(Had to make a story using Australian slang for school and I decided to make one about the members of Nightcord going to a drug shop to buy food for the best barbeque party ever (hosted by Mizuki) but there ends up being no food and they decide to use avocados instead.)
Tried a new marker I found on the floor and used a new art style of just one color for every character!
Time for 13 and 14! The saddest anime scene and an anime character similar to me. Man if Matpat leaving YouTube was anime, I’d put that down in a heartbeat.
Even though 13 is first, I thought of 14 first. An anime character I’m like the most. And out of every boy and girl I’ve watched cross across my screen, I’ve only been able to find I really can connect to. Asahina Mafuyuu.
She puts up a front to please her parents, even if isn’t something what she wants. She chips away at her own originality just to be someone others can be proud of and admire. She’s definitely depressed and how she’s acting for others certainly doesn’t help. Especially since she has to hide her passion of music and when it’s found in one of my favorite Project Sekai stories, Immerscible Discord, you can see how she wants to fights hard to keep it, but can’t for the facade she’s putting up. She prioritizes others in front of her, even if that means changing herself. And I do the exact same thing, alongside clinging to music as my lifeline just like her.
And for the saddest scene? Well I can’t remember a lot, but maybe the end scene where Light Yagami dies. It’s sad to me because I simp for him, which is pretty much the only reason I wanted him to win. He put so much effort forth and even though I don’t support his means, he made the story really suspenseful and fun. It was sad to see him go, but I didn’t want to add Near to one of my favorite characters that he killed, especially since the whole task force was likely next, and I didn’t want Matsuda to die either.
I do apologize for not posting again yesterday. I ended up using my free time to watch all of the music freaks and was going to post this night, but my friends ended up going out to dinner with me so I stayed out till like 11 pm lol. So because I ended up not having time yesterday, I'll do another double post today! :D
Today, on Saturday April 13 2024, I'm going to tell you guys my favorite female anime character. Though I can't mention one without mentioning the other, and they both happen to be from the same band. Yes, band is right because the two happen to be Ena Shinonome and Kanade Yosikai from project sekai!
Growing up, I had my parents divorce at an early age of 5. I can't really remember much, but it still is a sort of trauma for me. But that's not the only trauma I have. At an age of 12, I ended up getting mental hospitalized, also causing me to miss Valentines day.
So you may be wondering, what does this all have to do with the two anime characters?
Well growing up, not only did I have mentally abusive parents but I had around five to six mental disorders. (Dont worry my mom has stopped and my dad and I are working on things.) I won't reveal them because I don't fell comfortable since I've already told you guys so much personal information, so please don't ask me as that won’t end up well.
Anyway, I’m still trying to find my gender and place in the world, but that's not the point.
One of my friends has called N25 (my favorite group) an emo band before and I think that's one of the worst insults you could give them.
All of them have very meaningful and lore built backgrounds even though I may not have a full understanding of Mizukis.
But, my adoration for Kanade came before Ena actually.
It's very obvious that she's with depression, but she still tries very hard to get past it. Her work for a song to save Mafuyuu is honestly heartwarming. Throughout the story she shows strength and even in the story called “(something) discord”, she fights to save Mafuyuu so N25 doesn't lose her forever.
Her strength has been an inspiration for me, since I was hospitalized for being suicidal and self harming. During that time, I couldn't see my family which was honestly one of the biggest wounds someone could inflict on me. Sometimes I feel like her songs are meant to save me too.
Even though she doesn't actually “write” the songs because they're all covers, all of the songs are imbeded with deep lyrics. The one I think I can relate to most is “Bitter Choco Decoration” sung by everyone in Nightcord. Though the whole band is in a deep spot in my heart, because there songs are something I can grasp onto and they give me hope and perseverance to continue living.
And even when they're all not doing deep things and just hanging out, its still fun to watch there silly antics. Ena and Mizukis banter are fun to watch, it's nice to see Mafuyuu getting a much needed break, and overall there group interactions.
Plus Kanade is really pretty. (Looks are always a contrubiter to my simp qualifications lol.)
Now to Ena. Kanade isn't the only one whos strength inspires me. For example, some of my favorite events have these Ena cards:
(Idk this event :’))
On this black canvas I paint.
Also, I love the event where she teaches Honami how-to draw and paint.
Lets start with the first event that I don't remember, but it's one where Mizuki is the main person you follow. The picture is from where they talk on the rooftop, and Ena tells Mizuki that she can vent to her when she's ready, and that Ena won't push her. To me this shows how kind Ena is because she's demonstrating that she's here for Mizuki. She went up to the rooftop, and didn't stop in the story at all to support Mizuki, and made sure she knew she was supported and loved even if she didn’t feel like she could tell anyone.
Even though there in highschool, this is an amazing amount of maturity. It sure how kind she is, caring for her friend and being able to tell when something is off. My friend was wrong when she called N25 an emo band. What they really are is a group of friends who have gone through tough things, and they try to support each other throughout life. It's something one could really admire, and consider there family that isn't there by-blood-related-family.
Now the one where Ena teaches Honami how to paint is registered in my favorite stories. It's on the light-hearted side, where you can see Honami, Ena, and Emu, hangout and see there fun and warm-hearted interactions.
Through the storyline you can see Honamis insecurity with her art, and anxiousness to painting on the wall of a kindergarten. It's a fear I can understand, as every human is worried if being made fun of, yet even though Honami is a stranger, Ena agrees to help her out and even meet in person.
Throughout helping Honami at Emus house, Ena is worried about changing Honamis art style because everyone paints in a different way. It's because beauty and art has its own style, and she doesn't want to change here because it's unique. So instead, she teaches her how to assemble basic shapes into animals and it works, but when Ena goes home, she still wonders if that was the right thing to do.
This shows how much she appreciates others things, even if something may not look understandable from first glance. And I say first glance because she ends up looking at it more, and eventually makes out Honamis drawing of what she first sent to Ena - an elephant.
So when Emu and Honami are finally painting the kindergarten wall, Ena rushes back over just when Honami is finding a girl getting upset for being bullied for having the same style of art that Honami had. So Ena walks over to the girl and points out the parts of the animal to the others, and even suggests things the girl can add.
She also encourages Honami to draw how she normally does, because now she sees that it isn't just blobs of paint or whatever, it's something if you squint hard at it. So even though the kids laugh at Honami, Ena continues to encourage it and even paints on the wall with everyone!
This shows how she encourages people and helps defend others. This adds even more qualities to the other kind type of person she is. But that isn't the main reasons why she has a deep place in my heart.
It's a reccouring thing where Ena tries to encourage Mafuyuu to break free or stand up against her mom, providing Mafuyuu a bit of strongwill. I've gone back into the log and even screenshoted some of her quotes to Mafuyuu, because they were really inspirational to me. Especially since even though my friends say I'm like Mizuki, I feel like Mafuyuu sometimes. Her quotes help me feel like no everything is lost, and that there's hope yet, just like Nightcords songs.
Also in the event “this black canvas I paint” I feel really bad for Ena. She is trying to be like her dad who's a famous artist but he's said things like “you'll never be a great artist” and what not that brings her spirits down. Hearing that from a parent can be extremely hurtful, especially since she has a really harsh art teacher. So harsh in fact that she gave up, but she eventually does gi back because she wants to get better at art.
And her going back eventually produces the card where she's crying in the classroom, one that makes me feel sad for her every time I look at it. Though she continues and eventually her art teacher takes her aside and tells her that she actually has a really good talent for art, and that she's always welcome.
Despite the pain and people telling her no, she continues on being persistence and pursuing her dreams. It's an admirable trait, and I feel that her and I are the same in a way. Both trying to improve and worrying about our art, even getting some harsh feedback that brings our spirits down. After all, my dad is one of those brutally honest people, and there are many times in my life where I wish that I had Ena and Kanades bravery.
They both are strong and beautiful women despite there circumstances, helping each other and friends and pushing forward on steadfast resolves. They both and their songs have set many foundations for parts of me to build on, and have been inspirations and things for me to cling onto when I'm in a bad mood. I truly do not have enough words on how I appreciate both, and will continue to love them until the day I die. These reasons are why that if you ever seen my profile on colorful stage, I not only have both an Ena and Kanade card in my main party, but also there fan and partner titles in my status. I wish both of them as much blessings as they've given me <3.
*Cough cough.* Everyone ignore how long that was and I'm going to move on to question six, asking me what anime I've watched that in ashamed I enjoyed.
Honestly, there isn't really any. There are certainly some games I've enjoyed that I'm ashamed to admit that I had, but if I had to say an anime, I'd say No Game No Life. I like it because I also want to live in a game world like they do, but am ashamed because the anime also contains nudity and sexual stuff sometimes.
I even have a memory where I brought a book from the series to school where I didn't look through the photos, and oh boy did I regret it. And I still do today, so much so that I'm never bringing it to school again.
I pulled it out to read and one of my friends caught the sight of a character um… not wearing clothes. So my friends quickly stole it and looked through the pages. It wasn't pretty but it was especially embarrassing since they were loud enough to let the whole class know.
And let's just say, naked wolf man is a joke thats been stuck against me for a while. And that I've also learned an important lesson to check books before I go to school. Never again will something like that happen. Hopefully.
Posting a yandere quote because this post got a note. Actually my own idea i thought of today! ^^
“Darling if I can’t keep you in a chokehold hug to keep you all to myself, then what is love?”
For every note this gets, I’m going to post some yandere quote thing I’ve somehow scavenged up from the internet.
Yan! Harold who originally came to Iowa to scam the people out of their money. After all, what was he supposed to do if he didn’t have a hand in someone’s wallet?
Yan! Harold who only start chasing after Marian so he could have a fling before he left. He didn’t intend to stay until his facade eventually was chipped away and his real feelings got mixed in to the matter and he ended up starting to actually fall in love with Marian, along with her falling in love with him.
Well… that was until he saw you.
There you were, sitting behind him on a seat without a care in the world. He hadn’t talked to you before, you were just sitting there, oblivious to what was happening. But just you… your aura, it unraveled everything he stood for.
Yan! Harold who after he was freed from being proved innocent much to mayor Shinns anger, started acting “weird”. He just couldn’t get you out of his head! Who could blame him though? After such a pure angel descended behind him, he couldn’t stop thinking about you. Your scent… your aura… everything! You could easily walk past him and not even look at him but cause him to be starstruck easily. And probably kiss the ground you walked on to! After all what could be more holy than the ground his soon to be beloved walked on?
Yan! Harold who loses feelings for Marian almost instantly upon one glance on your face. She tries to knock on the door of the house he rented out, and even bring a freshly-baked homemade apple pie to give to him. Yet he doesn’t answer, and instead cuts off ties with her completely. He’s too busy hunting down information about you to be bothered with external annoyances people!
Yan! Harold who, when he finally leaves his house, is a completely different person. His eyes are now sporting clear eye bags under his eyelids, and his hair is now messy strands that Marian could’ve possibly played with in the future until he met you. YOU YOU YOU ALL HE CAN THINK ABOUT IS YOU~ <333333
Yan! Harold who immediately starts heading to the place where you work at like it was on his bucket list for his whole life. He can’t waste any time to see that glorious face again, even though people are shooting him weird glares. Sure, he knows he doesn’t look the same as before, and that his reputation probably needs to be mended a bit now, but that doesn’t matter, and it’s not like he cares anyway! As he gets closer to where you work, his heart can’t help race as his pale cheeks dust with blush. Would you smile at him? Maybe ask him if he was alright since you haven’t seen him? Oh how his heart flutters at the thought! Have you been thinking about him about him as much as he has been thinking about you? Because he can’t keep his mind off of you no matter how hard he tries.
Yan! Harold who now has a slew of photos from when he first visited you, and oh how kind you were! You also happened to work at the library just like Marian, but you were much more… pleasant. Instead of a cold demeanor like the manager you worked under, you had a warm aura, drawing him in like a moth to a flame.
You smiled at him, and asked him how you could help him and oh god he just wanted to kiss you right there. Those perfect lips were another thing that could keep him up at night, wondering how they’d taste.
He couldn’t help but stutter in your presence, after all you were an angel near him! One who’s committed many sins and scammed many! God must have really smiled upon him to ignore all of his sins and send someone holy to live the rest of his days with him! But it’s ok! He’ll restart over with you in his arms, and everything will be ok.
Yan! Harold who starts leaving little “gift bags” at your desk either before you check in or when you’re away and before you check out. The gifts normally contain candy and a bit of money, wrapped up in decorative wrapping paper closed with a nice silk bow. Sure, some people may be hesitant to give other people money as a gift, but he doesn’t care! He was saving money for a train ticket out of here, but now that he’s here to stay, he doesn’t need such an excess amount anymore! Sure his pockets may not be deep, but he’s willing to take up any job and amount of shifts to buy you whatever you want!
Yan! Harold who gets frustrated after a while when your guys relationship isn’t progressing as fast as he wants it too. Is it because he doesn’t look like the rest of the River City citizens? He can fix that! He’ll change anything… anything for you.
It shouldn’t be too surprising that one day you wake up in a room that looks like a basement recently turned into a bedroom. Pillows and blankets are neatly organized around you as you remain bound to the wooden chair.
Inspecting your surroundings more, you notice that your favorite scent is being emitted from a diffuser nearby, making it clear that whoever kidnapped you had been stalking you for a while.
You try to tighten the muscles in your wrist and jerk your hands forward in an attempt to free yourself, but you remain bound to the chair. With a… strange weight… around your foot?
You look down only to notice your most frequent customer, or Harold, curled around your foot, causing you to jump back a bit into your seat in surprise. However your action wasn’t without consequence, with the consequence being that you awoke a Harold, his face instantly breaking into a smile when his eyes meet yours.
“Don’t worry love we’ll be together now!”
He says happily as he cups your face in his hands, chatting as casually as one might would in a normal conversation outside a coffee shop.
“I’m sorry I didn’t notice you before angel… but I did and now I know everything about you! What you like… what you hate… everything so now I can be your perfect boyfriend!”
He cuddles into you as if this situation was a normal one.
“Now you can be in my arms, and you’ll never leave me~.”
Just so people know, I can’t see my messages! I don’t know why, so you’ll have to get in contact with me in a different way until I somehow figure out that issue.
🍮🎀𓈒 ˚ ⋆ chapter one ⋆ ˚ 𓈒🎀🍮
Walks were always an enjoyable thing for me. Not because I learned to love it while walking with my grandma and mom, (ok maybe a tiny bit). But because it gave me an excuse to not be home, and be in the dazzling nature of the woods. So instead of asking the teachers for D-slips, I can walk along a dirt trail as sunlight pours through the leaves.
The birds were chirping in the distance, a sound that I had a habit of hating in the morning. I continued walking until I saw a fallen log on the ground, something I’ve seen a million of times in the forest. But I caught a glimpse of motion in the corner of my right eye and I turned, only to meet the gaze of an old man.
He had a soft smile on his face and was waving at me. He had a beard and was holding a picnic basket in his right hand with a cane in his left hand. His skin was pale, probably because he didn’t get out much. After all, no retirement homes were located near here, making these walks more isolated then this trail already was.
I walked up to him, his gentle eyes blinking slowly as I got closer and closer. He didn’t seem threatening, and if he was, the worst damage he could do at this point was wack me with his cane. And I had almost broken all of my fingers at once before.
“Hello there young man,” The old man greeted me with his sunken smile, putting his arm down when I got close. “Could you spare me a second to share a meal with this old man?”
I figured it couldn’t hurt, he seemed sweet and polite even though he was a stranger. Plus, an old man couldn’t do much malicious things. After all he was too old to do something like lug a body, and he’d already lived out his life.
“Sure, I found an old log, so we can just eat there.” I told him, helping him make his way back down the direction I came from. “Here, right this way.”
Once he sat down on the log, the old man placed his picnic basket on the ground, grabbing the lid and flipping it open. Inside there was three sandwiches, some watermelon, apple slices, and some beef jerky. He grabbed a slice of watermelon and began nibbling on it as I grabbed a sandwich, the lettuce a bright green compared to the shades of grass below it.
Overall, the man and I had a nice conversation, even though he looked as old as oak. The food wasn’t that bad either, and our conversations made me forget about the anxiety I had of how my parents would react when I got home. Just for a little while though.
“You know, you’re a really kind person, but I can see it in your eyes. You’ve been hurt a couple times.” He randomly pointed out as we swatted away at the few bugs around us. “But I’ve got the perfect antidote to cure a heart of stone.”
He reached into his clothing pocket and pulled out a blue bottle of medicine, containing tiny red pills. With the combinations of colors, they looked purple. But if you squinted hard enough to see past their color facade, you could see what was truly underneath. The color red.
“This stuff can do wonders, take you to nirvana, make you a better man,” The man said, his smile turning into a grin. He packed up his picnic basket and started walking off, but before he did he turned around and told me something.
“One to numb the hurt, two to ease the pain. Three to clear your mind, forget all the hate. Take as I advised, not more than prescribed. Several weeks ahead, you'll be fine again.” And that was his last words until he turned around and continued walking away, eventually going out of sight.
After that I went home feeling confused. Sure, the words that he had repeated were stuck in my head, but that didn’t explain much. What were these pills made out of? Why did he have these? Who was that man? And the more deadlier question…. what would happen if I overdosed?
I swung the front door open then proceeded to head to my room which was on the second floor. It was a modest room, containing nothing much past a bed and a white desk, except a few trinkets and odds and ends from friends.
I put the bottle on the smooth surface of my desk, glad to be in an isolated room away from my family. I flopped onto my bed, wishing I had some new manga to read as I stared at the ceiling. Walls of just straight words wasn’t something for me, especially since I was one of those learners better with pictures. Whatever those are called.
I also hated being alone with my own thoughts, which caused my thoughts to drift around different topics in my head until it landed on one. The medicine, if you could even call it that and not “creepy drugs and old man gave me.” I sat up on my bed, unable to detour my thoughts away from it since my curiosity had apparently been gnawing at me the whole time. I swung my feet off the bed, the carpeted floor brushing up against the bottom of my foot as I stood up fully, walking over to my desk before I plopped onto my desk chair.
I grabbed the bottle with my right hand, using my thumb to easily flick the lid open. It fit into the palm of my hand easily, like it was made for me. I raised it to my lip, only having one thought in that moment, “what do I have to lose?” Before I poured a few into my mouth, swallowing them easily even though I didn’t have water.
I closed the cap and put it back on the sturdy table before I leaned back on my chair. It felt as if I was touching the clouds, feeling their airy softness against my skin as they brushed by me. I felt like I was bathing in the sky, the pure blue becoming blankets that enveloped me, folding over and over again. My eyes started to close as I drifted off to sleep, my heart feeling at peace. Yet before I fell asleep I felt an odd sensation. One akin to riding on a magic broom - or a carpet ride that was taking me to somewhere unknown.
