Tumblr tends to be very America-centric so can we just turn our eyes for a minute to the UK

Specifically to this woman. 

Earlier today, Jo Cox, a Labour MP in Northern England, was stabbed and shot at an event in a library. 

It has just been confirmed that she has died due to the attack. 

She was a great campaigner and humanitarian, and has left behind a husband and two children. 

This kind of event happens rarely in the UK, and so this is terrifying and destabilising that such a horrific thing has happened to such a compassionate person. 

Can thoughts on Tumblr turn to the UK today please, and turn to remember a woman who has been brutally murdered after a lifetime of trying to build a better country.

All my friends are heathens, take it slow.

So last night my mom was making grilled cheese sandwiches and one sizzled and I was like “ Hmm I wonder if that’s what it will sound like when I burn in Hell.” I don’t think I’ve ever seen my mother look so disappointed and confused in my life before

What’s the gayest thing I’ve ever done? Danced to Hollaback Yonce under a rainbow after the gym

My little cousins are 8 and 6 and their mom passed away from cancer when they were 4 and 2 years old. They love 5SOS, and they just got to listen to Sounds Good Feels Good the other night. The eight year old listened to Outer Space/Carry On and Jet Black Heart, and she says they’re her favorites off the album. When I asked why, she said, “Because they tell me that it’s okay to miss Mommy, but that everything will be okay when I get bigger.”

This baby has suffered from anxiety and depression, before the age of 10, and she has found comfort in 5SOS’s music. Don’t you DARE tell me that 5SOS is “just a stupid band” or that they write “shallow music that has no meaning”.

@5sos-official, thank you for helping her Carry On.

Don’t believe what you see on the internet, or on the magazines. Not only do they do that kind of thing, but they also use photoshop. You are beautiful and the things that society teach you not to like on yourself are human, and natural.

Every single person who reblogs this will get the name of the Magcon boy (present or past) whom I ship them with, a brief oneshot about them and their boy, and a preference of something about him (what he calls you, how he kisses you, etc.) in their inbox.  

I’m dead serious.  EVERY.  SINGLE.  PERSON.

YouTube: Petition to YouTube to deactivate Sam Pepper's channel

In light of Sam Pepper's most recent video in which he makes light of kidnapping a person against his will and pretending to shoot his best friend in front of him, we propose that Pepper's channel be removed. He clearly doesn't understand boundaries or have any respect for those people who have lost their lives and believes that murder can be staged as a prank. It is disgusting especially as it appears to mirror situations where people really have got killed. Sam Pepper needs to be stopped. This is not his first offence and it won't be his last, unless we stop him. The video clearly breaks two of YouTube's community guidelines: Violent or graphic content It's not okay to post violent or gory content that's primarily intended to be shocking, sensational, or disrespectful. Harmful or dangerous content Don't post videos that encourage others to do things that might cause them to get badly hurt, especially kids. Videos showing such harmful or dangerous acts may get age-restricted or removed depending on their severity.

More people should share and sign this.

An Open Letter to Sam Pepper

Hi Sam!

Thanks for taking the time to read this letter.  As fellow YouTubers, we have much respect for others who put so much hard work into building their channel.  It’s not easy, and you should be proud!  That said, we’ve noticed that in your success, there has been a lack of respect in return…namely, for women and girls.

You may have noticed that your latest video “Fake Hand Ass Pinch Prank” has garnered considerable negative attention.  In this video, you sexually violate a number of unsuspecting women on the street, many of whom are visibly confused and upset at being touched by you without permission.  One woman even says “I don’t like that!” while you proceed to laugh and touch her more.  In “How to Make Out with Strangers”, made a year ago, you pressure women on camera to make out with you - again, many of whom are visibly uncool with it.  Confused and caught off guard, they painfully follow through with your requests, clearly uncomfortable.  In “How to Pick Up Girls with a Lasso”, you physically restrain women on the street with lassos - many of whom look alarmed to be restrained by a stranger.

You’d probably be alarmed too, wouldn’t you?  Imagine someone on the street comes up and rubs their hand on your bottom, or a girl walks up to you with a camera and forces her mouth onto yours while you’re trying to figure out what’s going on.  Imagine walking down the alley alone, when a guy much larger than you physically restrains you with rope and pulls you toward him.  You probably wouldn’t like it, right?

People don’t like to be violated and they don’t like to see their friends and girlfriends be violated either (hence the group of men that tried to beat you up in the lasso video).  And yet, history suggests that perhaps you find this humorous.  It is very disturbing that we live in a world where the violation of women and girls’ bodies is not only funny, but profitable, and can garner considerable notoriety and views on YouTube.

We are deeply disturbed by this trend and would like to ask you, from one creator to another, to please stop.  Please stop violating women and making them uncomfortable on the street for views.  Please stop physically restraining them and pressuring them to be sexual when they are uncomfortable.  Please show some respect for women’s right to their own bodies.  While it may seem like harmless fun, a simple prank, or a “social experiment”, these videos encourage millions of young men and women to see this violation as a normal way to interact with women.  1 in 6 young women (real life ones, just like the ones in your video) are sexually assaulted, and sadly, videos like these will only further increase those numbers.

We realize that people make mistakes, and that sometimes it’s hard to see the ripple effect of one’s actions.  We really hope that you will take a step back and consider the power you have to be someone who makes the world a better place.  It’s not too late to make a change!  We invite you to join us in ending widespread bodily violation that takes place in so many forms all around in the world.
