It's actually your civic duty to share Ursula le Guin's casually devastating, icily astute take down of the Harry Potter novels whenever you see it.

UKL: I have no great opinion of it. When so many adult critics were carrying on about the "incredibly originality" of the first Harry Potter book, I read it to find out what the fuss was about, and remained somewhat puzzled; it seemed a lively kid's fantasy crossed with a "school novel", good fare for its age group, but stylistically ordinary, imaginatively derivative, and ethically rather mean-spirited.

In one corner of Gaza, drowning in destruction and echoing with suffering, sat Umm Saleh, a woman in her fifties, beside her modest tent hastily erected after losing her home in the latest bombardment. Her face told stories of patience and resilience, with lines of time etched on it as if they were records of unforgettable events.

Umm Saleh, who once lived in a small house filled with the voices of her children, now bore witness to the agony of displacement. She was forced to flee with her children after a shell hit their home, leaving behind years of memories and simple belongings she never imagined would become unattainable.

Every morning, Umm Saleh leaves her tent in search of sustenance to feed her children. She goes to bakeries providing aid, waiting for hours under Gaza’s scorching sun. Despite the exhaustion that weighs down her frail body, she carries the bread, dampened with her tears, and returns with a fake smile that conceals the worries of a mother striving to protect the remnants of her family.

At night, when everyone else is asleep, Umm Saleh remains seated at the entrance of the tent, gazing at the dark sky. She reminisces about the days gone by, about her home that was once filled with warmth, and about her elderly, ailing husband of 70 years. Despite the pain, she finds remnants of hope in her heart—a hope for a day when peace will return and her children and grandchildren will live in a new home brimming with joy.

In moments of solitude, Umm Saleh finds solace in prayer and supplication. She implores God to protect Gaza and its people and to wipe away the dust of sorrow from everyone’s hearts. She often repeats, "We are here to remind the world that we are stronger than war, and we will rebuild our lives anew, no matter the cost."

In One Corner Of Gaza, Drowning In Destruction And Echoing With Suffering, Sat Umm Saleh, A Woman In

Umm Saleh is not just a displaced woman but a symbol of patience and strength in the face of harsh circumstances. Her story, like the stories of thousands of mothers in Gaza, embodies the continuous struggle for life in a land torn apart by war, yet still blossoming with hope.

Seeing people grow out of their z*tara phase is extremely validating. Cause people were coming up the wildest fucking takes in the fandom.

The fact that most of the fandom demonised 12 year old Aang, a genocide survivor and the literally the last remnant of an ethnic group, was abusive or "toxic" about his feelings for katara or mocked him for his passivity, something that was an integral part of his culture and identity as an airbender.

Or using Katara as a reward for Zuko. Praising that one scene that she hugged him as the end all be all for their relationship despite the fact that she was completely willing when threatening to kill him. There's no way Katara would align herself (through marriage) or her family with the nation that ruined her life.

Aang brought her hope and genuine happiness. He respected her and taught her how to be a child again. Her and cared attacks against the fire nation.

The worst night of our lives

The Worst Night Of Our Lives

The tent shakes as if you were in a ship moving on a crashing wave of sand

Your roof is clouds and rain An earthquake hits everything around you, even your heart

You open your eyes every time you steal a few minutes of sleep to make sure the tent roof is still in place

Suddenly, the nylon walls attack you

The tent fell on my family in an unforgettable scene. The tent fell and humanity and mercy fell in this unjust world.

We are now appealing to people with kind hearts to help us obtain a large tent that will protect us from the harsh winter cold and the danger of rainwater.

YES, please cause white alta fans would be calling Jet a "dangerous extremist" and yap about how the end doesn't justify the needs but ignore the several crimes Zuko commited in season 1 alone.

Dosen't sit right with me that Jet gets hate for going too far with his motives ONE time like Zuko's crackhead ass wasn't running around doing the same thing for 2 seasons straight

MCU Peter is such a far cry from the character you can barely call him Spiderman. His trilogy sucked ass because they kept his character tied to the billionaire war profiter and refused to challenge the role of Spiderman in any interesting way. Plus, he said and did things that you would genuinely question his supposed intelligence for.

Wanda and pietro were whitewashed and were killed in the most godawful ways imaginable.

And now, Dr. doom is played by a barely passable actor who is a white man.

Thanks, I hate it

It sucks when the worst version of your favorite comic book character is the most popular one

My name is Mina, I'm 19 years old from Gaza. On October 7th, we woke up to the sounds of rockets, bombing, and destruction. By October 10th, we were forced to leave our home with nothing—(no clothes, no belongings, nothing)—because our area became a dangerous war zone. A week later, we received the devastating news that our home had been completely destroyed😔😔💔💔💔.We are now displaced, with no place to call home. We have been forced to move 10 times over the past eleven months of this genocidal war. We currently live in a place barely suitable for three people, while our family of eight struggles to fit. My aunt and her one-year-old daughter were killed by the occupation. My grandfather died due to the lack of medication and the closure of hospitals because of insufficient resources. He was a heart patient who needed regular treatment, but it was cut off due to the blockade and lack of medical supplies.I was in my first week of university, finally enrolling in my dream college (medical school) after achieving one of the highest grades in my city (98.6% in the scientific branch). Now, I lost this academic year, and it seems the second year will be lost as well, with no way to change this dire situation. My elder sister, (Salwa), was supposed to be in her third year of university. She was the top of her class and aspired to participate in student exchange programs and pursue a master's degree. Now, her university is destroyed, and she is unable to do anything. My younger sister, (Abeer), was supposed to be in her final year of school, excelling academically and aiming for a high grade. Unfortunately, her school was destroyed, and she cannot continue her education. My younger siblings, Adel (13), Jana (12), and Ammar (8), also cannot continue their education. They are in crucial stages for their development and future, but everything has been shattered.Basic necessities are almost nonexistent in Gaza: cleaning supplies are scarce, feminine hygiene products are nearly impossible to find and extremely expensive, and essentials like (shampoo, soap, and laundry detergent) are either unavailable or exorbitantly priced. Diseases are spreading alarmingly, particularly skin diseases and, more recently, polio. We are terrified of infection as the health situation deteriorates severely💔💔.We urgently need a safe, healthy, and fear-free life for me, my siblings, and my family. Please help us by donating through the link and sharing our campaign 🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹
