OCs I Made When I Was 9 Part 3

my OCs i made when I was 10 (the mermaid with black hair and girl in white dress are OCs from when I was 9 lol you can tell cuz there's not an insane amount of patterns)

again these are the simplified versions... i used to draw WAY too much detail

i... idk whats up with the purple guy that's unironically how he looks he's like the only super buff character I have cuz I couldn't draw muscles and the original drawing of him just looks weirdly lumpy lmaoo

i'm not even that obsessed with mermaids I have no clue why I have so many mermaid characters this isn't the end of them either I have at least two more mermaid OCs to my knowledge

can... can you tell that some of these designs were created when I started feeling attraction for the first time

unironically why most of my OCs are girls I just really like girls (and men too but idk I may have a preference or smth)

i was trying to do a shading demonstration for my friend but I ended up drawing a really scrumptious looking sphere

idk what its made of but man it looks good

cant believe i havent posted yael yet... she's so cute and she's the easiest to draw lmao why are all my character designs so complex

although her hair is very hard to draw it's really detailed but like.. i cant take any parts of it away or else it doesn't look like her?? lots of crescent shapes tho

guess what animal she can turn into she's the most obvious (yes all my main characters and some other characters can turn into animals, although obv not most ppl population wise in my comic)

i baby-fied her so much man she's 23 😭

erm so yk how i steal names from songs... new soul is literally her so I gave her the singers name maybe I should do that for my other OCs cuz I LITERALLY CANT COME UP WITH NAMES... i can draw fine and create super cool characters but I have ALWAYS struggled with names and idk why I always overthink them

ok i know im repeating this but she is SO easy to draw... i don't need a reference or anything and this took like 5 seconds... for my other OCs I gotta move stuff pixel by pixel cuz it just don't look right and not like the version of them I see in my head, and yet I don't have a recent ref of her?? i gotta make one man it wont even take that long

this was my first design of puma guy (technically second, one day I will share the handmade cat plushy OG version) erm... it's not very good lol, also from an artistic perspective... ngl find it crazy that this was less than a year and a half ago I improved like crazy!! also I couldn't draw buff people we don't talk about it I distinctly remembering him looking less weedy when I actually drew him idk

the space pattern sucks ew i've really stepped my game up on that too, face is also janky I was still slightly in my anime phase

messy lineart works but like... this is just messy and not in a cool way

its so washed out my art is so saturated now compared to this, this looks like a watercolour version where's all the pink my boy is PINK

shading is ehh i remember loving the skin and pants but it looks pretty flat and the blue... i didn't know what I was doing with that

i HATE the mouth idk it makes me uncomfortable

man it's so crazy to look at my old designs BEFORE I came up with distinct hairstyles for them

he looks like such a generic anime boy it's kinda funny

the basic things that changed is that he looks older, has curlier hair and looks a bit sleepier but I actually do tend to stick very closely with my original designs (even though I've created some of them when I was really young)

i've edited this ref so much it's not funny I hate the curse of having a super crisp imagination in my head cuz if something is wrong by one pixel and puma guy doesn't look EXACTLY how I envision him then I'll hack up the ref and completely restructure it so it matches as closely as possible with what I see in my head

also i gotta do more art trades because of how much I've changed my ref tbh I can't have ppl draw my OC based on a wrong ref I feel bad

sigh the shading pattern on my ref is SO messed up like what even is that

FINALLY something in my art style!! if you're wondering why a lot of my recent art is completely different art styles, it's because i match the simplicity of whoever's character im drawing, cuz i dont feel like i could take a simple design and draw it realistically with accuracy

however the original design of this dude is in fact very realistic so im able to match that realism

also erm this was my FIRST SKETCH how is it so good i just cleaned it up a little and coloured it, maybe i gotta be more loose in order to get better at art, also i didnt use guidelines lol... i literally never use guidelines i just trust that i can see good enough

Hello again, I’ve “finished” that drawing I asked you about a while ago! I think I’ll add some lettering to the bottom and make the green-lighted lady’s arms larger, but aside from that, what do you think I should revise? I also wanted to add a glitch effect to the characters at the top (for lore reasons), but I can’t tell if it looks horrible or not. I also am a bit worried about compositional readability.

the glitch effect is cool, but id stick to red, white, and blue for the colours of the glitch, as the green looks out of place and muddy. the characters at the top are also very dark and at first glance I didn't see them at all. if they are meant to be hidden that's fine, but I just want to let you know they aren't very visible, so if that's not your intention id make them brighter or the lighting on them stronger.

the shading looks great for most of the characters but I cant understand where the light source is coming from for the yellow character on the right (not the one in the middle). the shading is also very soft, which for some surfaces makes sense, but in this drawing, everything is shaded very softly with an airbrush. id include some more hard edges in shading since those are important, especially in the face. there should definitely be harder shadows/highlights on the noses too. the hair needs harder highlights especially, all of the hair here looks very soft like a pillow, and not shiny like hair actually is. darker skin is also more reflective and has more contrasted shading, but in this art piece the lighter skin and the darker skin are shaded the same.

the strong coloured highlights really swallow up the colours of the characters clothes and skin, which is why I prefer to use multiply and overlay blend modes, since it retains the colour underneath all the shading.

if I blur my eyes and look at the drawing as a whole, the lightest and most eye-catching part of the drawing is in the middle with the white character, but it seems the characters in the very front should be more emphasised. so i'd say to make the bottom of the image even brighter, simply an overlay layer with a white airbrush can brighten it up, also putting the overlay over the characters at the very top can make them brighter, its a very easy fix.

the pink and light blue character's skintones are looking rather grey, a little bit more orange/red can help with this. i would say the grey character's skin also looks grey, but that's their colour so I'm not sure if that's intentional.

also I'm not sure if the white text is important, but I do want to point out that I have no clue what it says, I can't read it. (I see starry mask on the left, but what does it say on the right? I'm seeing "cplouge") also this is optional but I really like to do it and it adds a lot of life to art, just adding a small white highlight in the eyes

my SUPER old OCs (gonna be drawing as many of them as I can this week) these are from when I was around 9 or so (if you can't tell lol) my plan is to include every old OC and plotline I have ever made into my current comic, so... we're gonna have to figure out how to incorporate these ppl lol

doing full bodies to make sure i know how to draw their whole design and also to practise posing and anatomy cuz I NEVER draw full bodies even though I probably should

these take like half an hour each and i usually have a minimal sketch plus just draw it in one go so it's not as clean or perfect I'm just trying to aim for quantity because my main focus is really just design and drawing them in my current art style
