reblog if you’re an *active* studyblr

I’m having trouble keeping an updated dash throughout the summer months and would like some new, active blogs to follow to keep me motivated throughout the summer months with my classes – I’ve also had a few messages in my ask inquiring about active studyblrs too, so it seems like other people are having the same problem! :(

follow me and i’ll (most likely) follow back. bonus points if you’re a grad student, preferably med (not necessary whatsoever though!)

Donald Trump pledges to sign anti-LGBTQ 'First Amendment Defense Act'
The law would make anti-LGBTQ discrimination legal among employers, businesses, landlords and healthcare providers on the basis of a religious belief.

Donald Trump has been courting the LGBTQ vote throughout this presidential election, claiming he would be the better choice for the community than opponent Hillary Clinton and promising to protect us from terrorism in his Republican National Convention speech. That argument gets harder to believe by the week, as he gives speeches at anti-LGBTQ events, sticks up for homophobic and transphobic legislation and surrounds himself with bigoted politicians and advisers. Now we have a new offense to add to the list.

Trump has pledged to sign the First Amendment Defense Act (FADA), if passed by congress. It was first introduced in the House on June 17, 2015 and would effectively legalize anti-LGBTQ discrimination across the board, including among employers, businesses, landlords and healthcare providers, as long as they claim to be motivated by a firmly held religious beliefs.

It would act to overturn the executive order signed in 2014 by President Obama prohibiting anti-LGBTQ discrimination among federal contractors.

Day 8: notes

Today was a productive day where I made notes for two of my tests coming up - maths tomorrow (see the arithmetic and geometric series formula cards) and then biology the day after (pages and pages of osmoregulation notes because it’s so content-heavy that I had to handwrite them to actually memorise properly!) The colours I used for both notes just happened to coincidentally match, so I stuck them together for today’s photo. Now is it a coincidence that my tests are one day after the other or are my teachers just messing with me?

It has been one hell of a stressful month. I just want to crawl up and disappear because there’s just too much I need to do and nothing is going as expected. Life is not looking so happy. Take for example yesterday, when my application for this research opportunity was due. I emailed my professor for a letter of recommendation two months prior but she suddenly went MIA yesterday and did not submit it before the deadline. And now I have a huge psych exam tomorrow I have to study for and I’m not even halfway done. I also have a quiz in calc which I’m doing horrible in, even though I stay up studying almost every night. Oh and I can’t forget to study for the ACT, go to work, and lead my extracurriculars. I had a couple of break downs, lost a substantial amount of hair, and have broken out on my face. I don’t think I can do this.

To the (mostly white and liberal) people who find themselves going to protests for the first time:

1. Marches and rallies aren’t Coachella. They can be fun and fulfilling, but they’re more than that. You’re there to show solidarity and to build a culture of resistance, not to boost your social status or get more likes on Instagram.

2. Don’t take pictures/videos of others without their consent. I don’t care how cool their sign is. Unless you ask first, NEVER take a picture/video and def NEVER post that to social media without consent.

3. In the same vein: don’t be a snitch. If you see someone spray painting or flipping off cops or smashing racist imagery, etc, don’t take video/pictures. Don’t rat out your comrades, especially if they’re doing something illegal and can get arrested or fired.

4. At the march in LA on Saturday, a bunch of white Hillary supporters started shaking hands with the riot police. Don’t do that. The cops are not our friends.

5. Center the voices of members of oppressed groups. If there’s an open mic, let others speak. If you’re privileged, you’re there to listen and learn. Be humble.

6. If something that a member of an oppressed group says makes you uncomfortable, DEAL WITH IT. Don’t try to silence them. If poc start chanting “Fuck the police”, don’t try to shush them or drown them out.

7. These anti Trump marches are not pro Hillary, or pro Bernie, or pro Jill Stein marches. You’re taking part in direct action, not electoral politics.

If anyone has anything else to add to this list, feel free to do so.
