haikyuu game of spin the bottle where all the boys have that Special Someone they really want a chance to kiss and everyone goes in with mental blinders on like "this will be perfect! finally a chance to smooch my crush!"

and then the bottle is absolutely merciless and proceeds to never pair any of these people with who they want and everyone is just getting increasingly frustrated and annoyed watching their crushes kiss other people and having to kiss random other people but everyone is still so desperate for that chance with that One Special Someone that they just keep fucking going and oh my GOD why is this bottle so cruel what is happening? eventually they just have to stop and everyone has kissed 4-5 other people and nobody kissed who they want.

okay but third year Kageyama, Hinata and Yachi realizing they're actually Tsukishima's friends

Hinata freaking out because he can't find a black pen before a big test and Tsukishima wordlessly handing him two spares (in case one is almost dry) and telling him to smarten up but not actually making a big deal about it.

Yachi going over to his house to study with him and Yamaguchi and having a genuinely good time and yeah Tsukki makes fun of the bow she has in her hair but he also laughs at her jokes so... they end up playing Mario Party until like 1 am and he doesnt even complain about it.

Tsukishima showing up at Kageyama's house looking really annoyed and saying his brother is home for the holidays and is pestering him about college and the future and hey, do you want to go throw a ball around?

Kageyama, Yachi and Hinata all receive a birthday gift on time that year, neatly wrapped, and even if theyre simple gifts they're all *real* gifts and not one of them is a joke gift or a prank and they have to host a meeting to go through all of the options of why Tsukki's behaviour has changed until Hinata realizes what's happening and starts shrieking because FUCK YEAH I DID IT. TAKE THAT SUCKER. GET FRIENDED.

Ushijima retiring from his volleyball career and then immediately becoming a house husband for Tendou,,,

He retires after many years in volleyball, but isn’t quite sure what he wants to do next. He loved volleyball, volleyball was his life, but the physical rigor of it taxed his body, and the physical health of his body is more important than continuing an already accomplished career. So, he decides to throw himself into the best stay at home husband as possible for the time being.

He keeps their shared apartment absolutely spotless, and neatly decorates the place— building shelves to store Tendou’s many, many collectibles and adding tasteful decor from the plethora of interior design magazines that he has studied in his free time. On weekends, he plans elaborate dates with delicious restaurants and walks down their river. Every weekday morning, he wakes Tendou up with a hot cup of coffee (with just the right amount of sugar and cream) before he goes off to work with a homemade lunch in hand. And on the topic of lunch, Ushijima spends hours and hours watching tutorials and practicing how to make the little animals and shapes out of the ingredients for Tendou’s packed lunches. He becomes quite good at it, and Tendou is afraid that his heart is gonna give out bc his smoking hot, retired Olympic medalist volleyball star husband is not only sweeping him off his feet with his grand romantic gestures, but he ALSO packs him the CUTEST lunches with a note every day explaining the health benefits for each portion of the meal. He doesn’t know how he’s gonna survive if he continues at this rate.

For the sake of his own heart health, a couple months after his husband has retired, Tendou tells Ushijima that a local sports club is looking for a coach for their middle school girls volleyball team, and he should interview.

this elicits zero emotions from me. no positive, no negative thoughts.

I think as a ship I can respect it, but as a viewer of the show i don't particularly care for Aone, he's never been particularly interesting to me. It is also painful because I am not a multishipper in most cases, so the iron grip I have on ushiten cannot be let go. But I will give it a sincere thought!

I do think if they'd have run into each other in the competition hallway, Aone would have locked on and pointed at Ushiwaka as the ace, and Ushiwaka would have been so confused but assumed this was some kind of social convention he doesnt understand, and just decide to point back at him without emotion. And I think that would have surprised Aone. and also everyone else. I can imagine this pointing going on for several minutes as Futakuchi tries to decide if he should stop it, sparing baffled glances between these two idiots.

I think as a ship I can see a fun dynamic with Aone being quiet because he's quiet but Ushijima is quiet because he's Mr. Autism - that is to say, I think it's really funny to imagine Aone silently correctly his behaviour when Ushijima is Misunderstanding Something, but he's not very social himself so he just sorta... pushes at Ushijima and shakes his head like "no honey, thats not right, stop that."

I can imagine them very domestically, I cant imagine them very... romantic. I feel like they'd both be ass at planning dates.

I do think Ushijima would adore his turtle. They might have multiple turtles. I think Ushijima could be a turtle guy with enough exposure.

I do like Ushi-ships that include Tendou as the best friend still because I think thats very funny. Imagine Aone, finally getting a date with this very cool, very skilled and highly acclaimed player he's admired forever, and he's very nervous and he's heading to the Shiratorizawa gates, because that's where they're meeting, and Tendou comes swinging down from the trees (or whatever he does in his spare time) like "so you wanna date my bff is that right?" and I just feel like Aone would not enjoy conversations with Tendou like that. He doesnt even know who this is, he's just scary. Why is his super calm and cool new boyfriend's best friend the scariest person???? Ushijima would have to shoo him away.

okay yeah i see where you're coming from with the hinata + oikawa hooked up in brazil but you know what else is fun? the idea that they didn't, but everyone thinks they did, and they cannot convince anyone otherwise.

three days later, Hinata gets a text from yachi that just reads: OIKAWA???!!!?!?!?

they just. cannot convince their friends that this did not happen. it haunts them. all they wanted was to play beach volleyball. they cant even figure out who started this rumour or where it came from

it calms down for a bit until the allstar match when someone makes a joke about their reunion and Ushiwaka casually goes "Oh, because of their sexual history?" and Oikawa goes absolutely rabid.

happy birthday ushijima anyway I bet Tendou saw it was international left handers day, and decided as a joke to plan a big surprise and do like a playful "hey its your day buddy" in like a jokey way to make fun of him and then he shows up for this surprise and is like "how did you know it was my birthday?? i do not believe I'd mentioned??? ah of course you knew, you are very clever :)" and Tendou is just like "HAHAHA LIKE I DONT KNOW MY BEST FRIENDS BIRTHDAY PFFTT-" and then sprints to the kitchen to scrape the left-handed jokes off the cake because how the FUCK did this happen?

Ive been playing around with a fic idea for a really long time that doesnt really have a plot (hence why I havent written it) but would be a slice of life or episodic "lesson learning" story where the premise is Daichi's father getting a fancy job across Japan, so they have to move, but because he's so close to graduating (and they might make it to nationals!) he really doesnt want to go with them, and knowing how important he is to the team and they are to him, Ukai decides to let him stay in a spare room above the shop/live with him, and it would really focus on Ukai's POV of like - sure daichi is functionally just renting a room, but Ukai legally becomes his guardian/proxy for school/medicial issues etc but he's not worried because "I was a trouble teen and got into shit but this kid is so put together and normal, I dont really need to worry he can probably handle himself" and in fact in terms of father figures Daichi spends a lot of his time lecturing Ukai on proper cleaning and house maitenance, he's a really handy guy, very on top of things, and Ukai makes the joke about how Daichi is clearly the more adult one of the two but then *that* starts to weigh on him as he realizes there's something unsettling in that idea and he starts fighting back against Daichi's very mature persona and unravelling what had essentially been years of (unintentional) emotional neglect and having been forced to grow up really fast and its just a general fluffy vibe of "everyone has something to teach" where Daichi helps Ukai shake off the last of his teenage bad habits and Ukai helps Daichi develop at least one teenage bad habit before he graduates. I think this also means that Ukai walks in on Daichi and Suga making out on the couch and is incredibly conflicted over whether or not he should yell at him or be proud of him.

as much as i love tendou with abandonment issues due to not having friends before and being terrified of them leaving him i believe we need to give more attention to wakatoshi with abandonment issues. i can't see his mother as the loving type. his father was probably his only pillar of emotional support and comfort growing up and when he moved to america, wakatoshi had all of that ripped away from him, thus the fear of the people he loves leaving him behind. i can imagine wakatoshi in tears grabbing tendou by the wrist as he's boarding the plane to paris, saying in a voice too broken for the man he appears to be that he doesn't want tendou to leave him.

Ushiten comic I thought of on a whim

wakatoshi, trying to compliment tendou but also having no idea what to compliment him on: "your eyelashes are pretty"

tendou, as mentally ill as ever and oblivious to the fact that his crush on wakatoshi is reciprocated: "yeah thanks it's the tears from crying myself to sleep ;)"

haikyuu ships but its things about their relationships or moments that I think would surprise their friends/teammates

starting off with my boys Daisuga: honestly definitely the rest of the team forgets that they haven't been together forever, and are never expecting when either of them are acting like, well, teenagers in a relationship. Specifically in regards to being shy in front of each other or wanting to impress each other, the rest of the team always is surprised by it because in their mind, like, why are you feeling insecure in this relationship I thought you've been dating for 2 years and Suga is just like "try 3 months BITCH now I need you to find out what his favourite kind of chocolate is I'll pay you real money if he doesnt realize why you're asking."

right along to Kagehina and honestly, literally even just realizing they have a normal relationship. I think everyone absolutely understands how they got together, but I imagine the first time ANYONE sees them out in public together they ALL have a moment thats like "oh shit they like... are actually dating" and every time Kagehina is just like... on a lunch date, or going shopping, walking a dog, just chatting. Like people are surprised that they genuinely spend time together outside of sports. The first time Kageyama goes with Hinata as his date to a family wedding the entire family is flabberghasted bc they definitely thought this was an on-court obsession only

Iwaoi is really simple, literally just people realizing that Iwaizumi has genuine romantic affection towards him is the funniest thing to me. There's a week where Iwaoi is worried bc Iwa had to go to school with a hickey on his neck but literally NOBODY bats an eye or even mentions it because "yeah Oikawa obviously-" but when theyre changing for practice and they see that Oikawa has a hickey on his neck the entire team goes feral and practically tackles Iwaizumi like "you committed to kissing him for that long?????? YOU?????" like they cannot comprehend Iwaizumi actively participating. (obviously this is also the only time they every see Iwazumi embarassed enough to visibly blush which only compounds things.)

Bokuaka's is so stupid but honestly - the first moment the team realizes that Akaashi is, like, attracted to Bokuto and isnt just his best friend that got carried away. Konoha catches Akaashi checking out Bokuto's ass as he's leaving the changing room and it legitimately ruins Konoha's day. What is he supposed to do with this information.

To be completely fair, Ushiten as a concept probably absolutely baffles the entire Shiratorizawa team for multiple reasons. I think though the obvious one is that the rest of the team cannot understand how little Ushijima is bothered by any of Tendou's antics, where Tendou is VRRY touchy and goofy and lots of PDA and affection and Ushijima is completely receptive and unbothered by it, if not going out of his way to intentionally make Tendou laugh to invite him to more. Like Tendou absolutely would sit on his lap during lunch and Reon would be sitting there losing his mind bc last time he sat too close to Ushijima he got a lecture on personal space. Oh, but now suddenly he's super chill and relaxed and nothing bothers him its tendou doing it.

Asanoya's is a little sad tbh but I think, specifically the second and first years, would be surprised by how serious Noya is about the relationship and how little he tolerates jokes about them being opposites/a surprising pair or any of that. Like theyre shocked to find out how seriously he's taking being a boyfriend and really trying to make sure Asahi is happy. The idea that it isnt superficial or just for fun for him is surprising to them.

Arankita - in a comedy of errors Atsumu accidentally finds out they they are ~no longer virgins~ and legitimately has to leave practice for 20 minutes. There's a piece of him, and the rest of the team, that had 100% believed Kita was a robot and they just.... the idea that this was something that happened organically and not for "procreation" doesnt fit in their worldview. Kita smacks the next person who brings it up and that ends the conversation.

as much as I love Ushiten as like... "Ushijima doesnt process/is unphased by Tendou's weirdness" i think its MUCH BETTER to consider that Tendou is just Ushijima's type. Like its not a "i dont see why people would call you freaky" situation but rather a "FINALLY someone freaky and fucked up time to make him my husband."
