"Growing Around Grief"
Lois Tonkin, 1996
we should globally ban the introduction of more powerful computer hardware for 10-20 years, not as an AI safety thing (though we could frame it as that), but to force programmers to optimize their shit better

Oh I've seen this one before
As far as I know, he also:
- had a phone with Internet access from the very start (his whole "tactic" based on using Craigslist - getting and then reselling free stuff, and also finding a place to crash in)
- was monitored by a doctor the entire time. Obviously, in practice a homeless person most likely wouldn't be able to afford regular doctor visits just for check ups. That was of course not being disclosed during the challenge btw and only came out after he gave up, so who knows what other stuff he was doing in secret
- he had the knowledge that he can "quit" and return back to normal, any day, any time. So all that talk about determination, proving a point, and "staying hopeful" is complete bullshit and just not realistic. When you're in your lowest moment you don't HAVE THAT. You don't have the back up plan in the back of your head that if anything, you can just go back to normal. It's way, way harder to pick yourself up off the ground then. It's way harder to even survive.
It's easy to think you'd be able to do something when you know that you'd never have to actually do it.
I love fic @tophabes The new chapter is awesome! Topher's look is just fire! The author also said that he wants to use Jfk in the plot... AND I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE VERY FUNNY IF HE LIKED THE MAKEUP, NOT ABE.........

I'm not doing zinetober because I just learned about it, but seeing @koddlet doing silly little zines made me feel like making and sharing my own. It's simple and fun and low-pressure, which is great for me right now.
