- 太陽系最大的行星
- 質量是地球的約300倍, 體積是地球的約1300倍
- 木星是個氣體行星, 大氣成份和恆星相似, 大部份是氫和氦, 若當初在它形成時, 質量能再大上80倍, 當時就可能形成的是一顆恆星, 而不是行星。
- 自轉一圈約9.9小時, 公轉太陽一圈約12年
- 木星表面最明顯的特徵- 大紅斑, 至少已經存在300年, 因為在1800s, 300年前就被觀測到
- 1979年航海家1號探測船發現木星有環
- 1995年伽利略號探測船發送一個探測器至木星大氣
- 目前Juno探測船正在往木星的旅途上, 預計2016年到達
