Hello, I am wondering what TERF qualities and onboarding tactics are setup in a cult way and what examples could be.
Hmm, I will admit to not being an expert in cult tactics, but I will say I know one of the main ways that cults make people become entrenched in them is through alienation, which is a massive tactic used by TERFS. I am sure there are more examples, but these are the ones I felt I knew well enough to discuss responsibly.
From things as simple as language, if you look into TERF circles you will find them using words and terms that might be hard to decipher, sometimes using words that most people will understand but using to mean different things.
There is also the obvious reality that TERFs are taught to be scared of people. Trans people and trans allies are painted as violent and unreasonable within TERF circles, which can remove TERFs from necessary and valuable communities that might deradicalize them. Very much following the idea that all the outside world is evil which is a massive tactic within cults.
One sort of odd tactic is just how hard TERFs can be to have a conversation with. There has been discussion about how people deeply entrenched in fundamentalist religions will be sent out into the world with poor socialization skills for the very reason of having people reacting poorly to them. It is a way to drive them further into the religious order, and it can be very easily seen in TERF circles. Often being confrontational to transgender people living their lives, and trying to debate anyone who happens to exist around them. It is a system set up to upset anyone they interact with, forcing them into a corner where other TERFs provide them with their only positive social interactions. Eventually, the people who make up their community will affirm their already-held beliefs which obviously feeds the process more.
In short, they are given language no one understands, taught the world hates them, then encouraged to be cruel. It is the perfect recipe to isolate a person. It is really quite sad. Deradicalization is a hard process and a brave path for those who choose to take it.
everything u need to know about me can actually be explained by the fact that i read that poem about the serving girl wearing the pearls so they're warm for her mistress when i was like 11 and it rewrote my brain chemistry forever
