post-war camping trip, the gaang leaves zuko alone for an hour and he forms a menagerie
zoom for detail!
So how does everyone react to the lovey dovey ness that lasted awhile?
cuties being cuties!
also, 30 degrees c is hot, it’s 86 degrees Fahrenheit.
soon after… it get’s dark.
[Context is Aang's death from being struck by Azula's lightning]
Roku: He's not waking up, it's not working!
Kuruk: Yangchen, get over here!
Yangchen: I can't!
Kuruk: FOR AANG!
[Kuruk pushes Yangchen forward. She's holding a fruit pie, which she offers to Aang].
Yangchen: ...Oh, look, I have what appears to be... a delicious fruit pie! I sincerely hoped... nothing happens to... [her voice breaks and she drops the pie] OH AANG! [starts crying]
Kuruk: ... ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL HIM FASTER?
[Yangchen runs to hug Kuruk so tightly he can't breathe].
Kuruk: Yangchen!
[Kyoshi pushes both of them out of the way and walks towards an unconscious Aang. She grabs him by the robes and pulls him up off the floor, then frantically begins shaking him to wake him up].
Roku, Yangchen, Kuruk: KYOSHI!
Yangchen: WAIT A MINUTE, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!
Roku: KYOSHI, STOP!
[All of them manage to stop Kyoshi by grabbing her arms and legs. She puts Aang back down slowly].
Kyoshi: I thought... violence... would be the answer.
After the war when Zuko tells everyone everything that happened when he went back to the Fire Nation, ‘Ty Lee needs help untangling her braid’ becomes everyone’s excuse for getting someone out of the room.
Katara wants to spend time with Aang but Sokka’s there? “Ty Lee needs help untangling her braid”
Sokka found a really big bug in his room and he needs Suki to get rid of it, but Aang won’t leave? “Ty Lee needs help untangling her braid”
One day Azula wants to talk to Zuko alone, but he’s with Ty Lee so Azula looks her dead in the eye and says “Ty Lee needs help untangling her braid”
Ty Lee just nods and says “sounds serious” and leaves
Zuko became an artist at a young age. Painting was encouraged by Ursa and Uncle Iroh, so he did it to keep himself occupied.
Eventually, it became more than a hobby. He was an artist down to his core, seeing things through a different lens than his family members.
Azula hated that there was another thing that Zuko was better at than her. However, Ozai didn’t like it, so she didn’t. It was that simple.
Under his sleeves, there were often ink writings and drawings.
His favorite things to draw, ironically, are dragons. Twisty shapes, fangs and wings.
Ozai, again, doesn’t approve and tries to keep Zuko occupied on something that he finds productive.
It doesn’t work.
After Zuko’s exile, most of his art is halted.
But sometimes, he starts rambling about ink and paper and dragons, and suddenly he feels a lot lighter.
Around a year and a half into his exile, he gets new brushes and waterproof ink from Uncle Iroh.
He vanished for about two hours, but when he was next seen there was ink on the walls like a fresh coat of paint.
‘“Mako, have you seen the Prince?” Firenze hummed from his spot on the deck.
“No, honestly. Maybe we left him at the last port?”
The captain laughed. “We can dream, Mako.”
Iroh raised his eyebrow. “He’s painting the hallway. If you’d like, you may join him.”
And so, Zuko gained two new painters. Over time, the entire crew painted the boat black and silver.’
Yeah, the crew painted with Zuko sometimes. It became ritual to paint over it when the salt began to wear away at it.
Zuko still has his whole honor complex, but it’s slightly detached from his actual personality due to the relationship that he had with his crew.
So when the Avatar shows up, he’s shocked instead of insistent to catch him. The sooner that he catches the Avatar, the sooner that he’d get locked away from the world.
So he may or may not have deliberately played cat and mouse with the Avatar.
When Zhao takes the crew, they all visit the prince one-on-one. Some with tears, others with somber hearts. They have a group hug and then they have to leave.
The first time Zuko saw the Northern Water Tribe, he felt a flurry of emotions.
First, awe at the beauty that the people had carved from the ice.
Then, anger that the fire nation was going to knock it down.
He craves the feeling of ink on his hands again.
And once they’re declared enemies of the state, he hopes that he’ll feel that again.
Anyway, someone write a two-part fic where
1. Kyoshi, like, materializes or whatever through Aang to tell Suki she’s incredibly proud of her and how she’s protected not only her friends but all of Kyoshi Island
2. Five minutes later Aang accidentally makes eye contact with Zuko for .1 seconds and Roku immediately clambers up topside to also tell his grandson he’s proud of him
No, but what if Zuko is adopted by the Avatar Spirit? Not Aang, but the World-Spirit-that-resides-in-him specifically. Just imagine: the Avatar state is said to strip away all semblance of self but Aang can't help the disbelief as his mouth form the words "GO TO YOUR ROOM"
I feel like this is a hilarious addition to the "someone adopts Zuko" trope. @muffinlance, this is funnier if it's Zuko-pre-redemption, right? Everyone would be SO confused.
They invented family 😫🙌
silly advisors with their silly questions
June 9: Role Swap (Firelord Roku/Avatar Sozin)
As you can see, the avatar's powers are only being used responsibly
