When I was a younger writer I always considered my settings last in scene writing. It went action -> Characters -> Maaaaaybe setting if I felt like it. This can work—a lot of stories get by without having very memorable or strong settings—after all we’re there for the story within them. But once I got older and started moving and leaving places behind, I began to recognize how much a setting or place can hold—in memory, symbolism, feeling.
These aspects of a place are just as important to imbue in fiction—they can convey an emotional impact, reinforce the tone, provide details on background. More than anything else, I find setting is where you can imbue your story with magic.
(Specifically, I’m talking more about individual settings rather than worldbuilding. Check out my worldbuilding posts here!)
Most important to start with is consider what this place means to the character. For example, “home” is a concept as varied as the people who use it. It can mean safety, love, belonging, alienation, escape, confinement, freedom, etc. etc.
What memories reinforce that meaning of home? How does the character’s background relate to and lead up to their concept of home?
Then, once you know this, what decoration or ‘look’ would convey this? A character who views home as a temporary place to be abandoned at the drop of a hat would have very few personal items in their home. Maybe hardly any furniture—maybe they live out of a suitcase and keep only a carton of milk and a box of crackers in their kitchen.
A character who has lived in the same childhood home for their entire life may have just as much of their parents’ things as their own—their surroundings reflecting generations of loved ones.
These objects hold memory as much as their surroundings do. This is where we can really explore background and the emotional ties to a place. How loved is it? What does loving a place look like for that character? Maybe love looks like keeping it perfectly clean and tidy—maybe it looks like filling it to the brim with pretty things.
What makes two characters’ homes different? We want to avoid stating the obvious. You don’t really need to mention that your character has a bed, a nightstand, and a lamp in their bedroom—unless you’re making a point of how little or how much they have. You may want to mention which items are new and which are old—especially if it’s a room that they’ve been in since childhood, or throughout several periods of their life.
Just like levelling up description—what makes a place unique? What message are you trying to convey?
Good luck!
Can we stop with the whole “AI is plagiarism” narrative? AI is not doing anything different from any human that gets inspired by other art. If sampling is inherently theft then so is the vast majority of modern music. If copying other works’ style and techniques is plagiarism then every renaissance artist was stealing from Michelangelo. Art is, as a medium, taking inspiration from other sources, be that the world, other people, or other art, and combining those inspirations into something unique. And AI works are unique by literally any standard you decide to use.
There are plenty of actually good reasons to hate AI. Can we please stop parroting the stupidest and most easily dismissible one, all we’re doing is making it easier for them to defend themselves.
You may do whatever you want but I will not stop calling logicials that scraps works of people on the Internet for parts only to blindly regurgitate stuff of subpar quality "plagiarism programs" or any variant.
Sorry for not being able to abide by your request.
I would also suggest you to look up the difference between inspiration and plagiarism. There is a reason why we're not using the same word for both.
With all due respect,
Me

The Elementalist Chronicles: Isle of Rune is an interactive game inspired by Avatar: The Last Airbender. *insert theme song*
Genre: Low Fantasy, Elementalists, Time Travel, Slice of Life (kind of)
Setting: California (very briefly), The Secret Isles (Pacific Ocean)
There is currently no age rating for this game.
No nsfw asks please <3
Your time on the Secret Isles have become a distant memory. It’s been about 10 years since your parents divorced and your mother moved you to California. The Good: California has great weather. The Bad: You can’t practice your bending as freely.
Mikayla loves Cali, so it comes as a complete surprise when she presents the idea of moving to the Isles once again. Your mother has no powers. Not to mention, her job and friends are in Cali. This move isn’t for her, it’s for you. It becomes clearer when she suggests that you train in the adult program of the elemental school. The master plan: getting you to reconnect with your father. Who just so happens to be the Headmaster of the Rune Elemental School.
Going back to the Isles means you will see the people you have not seen since childhood. Including your old best friend, Cameron, whom you have not been in communication with for quite some time. In your absence, Cameron has found a new friend. Jess isn’t really warm towards strangers. And you are a stranger, even if these Isles were your stomping grounds first.
Like it or not, a ton has changed. Tread carefully, explore with caution. Some roads may lead to different places and different times. It won’t do anyone any good if you go back hundreds of years… Your mother’s plan might go down the drain. You might find yourself stuck. You might find the masters you had only read about in books standing right in front of you.
Come along young elementalist, the Isles await you.
Customize your character: name, surname, gender, pronouns, description.
Choose a pet (kitten, puppy, snake, turtle)
Choose a hobby (hanging out with your pet, surfing, painting, reading, biking, chess) [hobbies may change]
Choose your element (water, air, fire, earth) & your birthplace (one of the Isles).
Explore the Secret Isles: The Isle of Rune, The Isle of Wind, The Isle of Ember, The Isle of Tides, The Isle of Sand (is sometimes called The Isle of Gems). And choose which one you want to live on.
Travel back in time.
Stay in the past with the four masters or find a way back to the present.
Get to know the people and grow a bond with them… or don’t.
Train and become a better elementalist.
Possibly witness how the four grand masters became who they are and how they founded the elemental school.
Or just chill and be a couch potato.
Cameron | Non-Elementalist | History Student
Cameron was born to an elementalist family but he himself has no powers. He used to be your childhood friend. As a child he was kind and rather shy. His shyness never stopped him from going after whatever piqued his curiousity. An intelligent and compasionate young man. You have not seen Cameron since you were 14. How will he react when you show up on the isles once again? Will you be greeted by the same gentle soul or will you meet a new Cameron?
A Short Description of Cameron: He has a tawny skin tone, topaz eyes, and ear-length light brown wavy hair. His height is 5'10 (180cm). He has a slender figure.
Jess | Non-Elementalist | Architect-Artist
Jess moved to the isles shortly after you left. He's been Cameron's closest friend ever since. Part of the reason why they became close is that they are both non-elementalists who were born to elemental families. Unlike Cameron, Jess struggled more with this fact because his family valued him less for his lack of powers. He is a loyal friend and a brave man. Perhaps a little reckless. He is clever and confident in his abilities.
A Short Description of Jess: He has a light skin tone, gray eyes, and dark brown hair that is slightly wavy and is slightly longer than shoulder-length. His height is 6'2 (187cm). He has a lean figure.
Jace | Master of Earth
Jace is one of the four founders of the Rune Elemental School.
A Short Description of Jace: He has sun-kissed skin, hazel eyes, and wavy-curly brown hair that is slightly longer than ear-length. His height is 6 feet (183cm). He has a slightly muscular build.
Lahela | Master of Water
Lahela is one of the four founders of the Rune Elemental School.
A Short Description of Lahela: She has golden bronze skin, dark brown eyes, and straight chest-length soft black hair. Her height is 5'5 (164cm). She is slightly curvy.
Sierra | Master of Fire
Sierra is one of the four founders of the Rune Elemental School.
A Short Description of Sierra: She has brown skin, light brown eyes, and curly-wavy dark brown hair that ends mid-back. Her height is 5'8 (175cm). She is slender and toned.
Ariel | Master of Air
Ariel is one of the four founders of the Rune Elemental School.
A Short Description of Ariel: She has beige skin, sky blue eyes, and long wavy blonde hair with wispy bangs. Her height is 5'6 (166cm).
Atticus | Current Headmaster of R.E.S. | Elementalist | MC's father
Mikayla | Non-Elementalist | MC's mother
Mary and Brutus | An old couple from the past
Arista | A young elementalist girl from the past

You were made to feel like a monster your entire life. How could it ever be fair?
You were aware of it since your childhood. How could you not when you were sent to an Academy just to explore your identity as a Witch, a mutated human or a Mystic. Maybe both or neither.
How was it? knowing you. That you were one of many, but none at the same time.
You ran away that day. Never looking back for once. You ran as fast as your feet could take you, and it haunts you to this day. It is a race with time, with nightmares and sufferings. It was a race you could never win.
But then... You were back. Because who dares defy them.
That very cursed fate of yours acquired you an audience with The Crown. You returned to them with your own two feets.
The Crown has spoken.

[ROMANCES][MORE DETAILS IN GAME PROFILE]
RAEL GOVIATT: [M]
[Isn't it curious? Do you want to flip and see the other face of the coin?]
TRAITS: Mischievous, Ambitious, Brilliant and Patient.
ABOUT: People say Rael have a bit of a dual personality. His friendly but mysterious persona makes them lower their guard around him. Though, he never shows or tells the real attention behind anything he does, even if it looks foolish to others.
Rael appears to be always amused by something. He flashes a disarming winning smile that lightens his whole face but his untelling eyes.
[You are killing me, and you are keeping me from dying.]
ANWAR HAYFAR. [F/M]
[Eternal chaos and internal chaos are distinct from each other. But I seem to attract both.]
TRAIT: Reserved, Tolerant, Idealistic and Secretive.
ABOUT: Quiet and unassuming. Anwar is a think before you act, type of person. They prefer to live in peace and away from politics or petty matters of the wealthy. But they are not that simple, as this florist may throw their guise and strike if pricked from the wrong side.
[And if a hundred loved you, they will only love you a drop compared to my ocean.]
HELIA [REDACTED] [F/M]
[Quit. Broke. Died. And made it through it all.]
TRAITS: Observant, Practical, Indifferent and Stubborn.
ABOUT: Helia's cold and indifferent appearance can be deceptive, despite being part of his truth.
A common first impression of Helia is a mixture of intimidation, intrigue and a sense of stability. They have an imposing aura and the kind of demeanour that demands attention in every room, with otherworldly elegance and grace.
[It's the same rain I loved that drowned me.]
YASIR [REDACTED] [M]
[Either find a way or be prepared to bleed and make one.]
TRAIT: Charming, Ambitious, Assertive and Inquisitive.
ABOUT: Yasir is a calculating and cool-headed person. And while Yasir can be materialistic, his love for money is not sacred, but it is definitely up there on his values list.
Yasir is authoritative and demanding, especially of his subjects. He also prefers to rule with an iron hand, which may surprise people who have not seen him in action.
[I have passed by many eyes but I only got lost in yours.]
[REDACTED][REDACTED] [POSSIBLE SECRET RO]
And since people were doin Soul Jam Light designs I figured I'd do some for Common Beasts.
Duty, Reason, Civility, Productivity and Unity
Idk about everybody else, when I think ANCIENT EMBODYMENT OF AN IDEA my brain does go to Animals and stuff like that. I also attempted to do an alliteration thing (as seen with the Duty Dragon and the Reason Ram) but gave up.
