dinosaurs are like the coolest thing possible for a child to learn about. it’s like hey i know you were just borned but giant monsters are real and they fought each other in wars for 100000000000 years and then blew up when the sky exploded.
If you do not need to make an oath with your deity, do not.
Oaths help deities to be sure of our commitments, so they can make plans with confidence.
By making an oath, you’re telling a deity that you will do this task, and they can rely on you to complete it. They are binding, and failure to oblige is inexcusable.
With certain deities, oaths may be negotiated, depending on the severity and the deity. For example, Hermes is known as a deity who is very friendly and easy to work with, so he’s great for beginners that may want to adjust their oaths in the long-run.
Many deities only require oaths from their long-term companions.
When you make an oath, pay careful attention to what you promise to do, by when, under what circumstances, and for how long. Specify the terms and conditions, and write it out, like a contract. This will avoid any confusion later on, and allow you to honour all of the details of the oath.
So why make an oath, if it’s this much trouble?
It’s important to remember that oaths shouldn’t be one sided. When you make an oath, make it clear to the deity what you will get in return. This is likely to be non-material rewards, such as inspiration or luck.
If you could write out a contract saying “I’ll take the bins out, and you give me a million pounds.” I think we’d all be doing that.
It’s much more likely that you will end up finding a much more spiritual reward. In Hermes’ case, you may offer to donate some money to charity, and in reward you will find inspiration for that story you’ve been writing. Or perhaps you’ll tell Thor that you’ll help the old lady down the street, and in return he’ll make the weather nice when you do.
If you think you have the ability to honour one of these oaths, then it can be an extremely rewarding experience!
people are cowards about fantasy settings and not including some things in em. I get the aversion to not wanting too modern of tech, however dwarves would invent and fucking love metal folding chairs
sorry for reblogging raw hog onto main, i am simply a girl who loves attention. praise me and call me pretty btw.
wrote out the first line of the Null Composure translation using my recently created Eliksni alphabet! I really do like how they fit together, and I'm brainstorming some rules/ways of categorizing the diff glyphs that will probably be compiled into a post sometime in the near future.
(sorry if the quality is a lil shit, i think tumblr kinda crunched the poor image)
