She broke up with McKay by claiming she shouldn't be anyone's girlfriend because she doesn't think she's a good person. Her impulsive hook up with Nate was a self inflicted punishment. She has no self worth beyond how men see her as a romantic partner or sexual object. It doesn't justify lying to Maddy about it or being involved with Nate,but it simply comes from a low point that Cassie is occupying in her life. She is not a slut or homewrecker. She's simply a young girl who doesn't know how to love herself enough to avoid getting involved with toxic men.
