Hand Sewn Three- Tiered Maxi Skirt- Part 1

Hand Sewn Three- Tiered Maxi Skirt- Part 1

Here | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5

Heyo! I'm back with a new sewing project and this one will (hopefully) be a garment that I plan to wear often.

I'm handsewing it, again because I don't really know how to handle a modern sewing machine and because I want the satisfaction that completing this will bring me.

It's also an easy project to start off with!

I'm making one of these!

Hand Sewn Three- Tiered Maxi Skirt- Part 1

A three-tiered maxi skirt!

I've been wanting one for a while and decided to get some fabric and make one.

I looked up some tutorials on YouTube, figured out the math

and drew my final pattern onto brown paper.

Hand Sewn Three- Tiered Maxi Skirt- Part 1

I have a waist band, which is the length of my hips. It was going to be a wide band at first, but I bought thinner elastic because I had a brain fart. You'll see in a few that I had to significantly shrink the width.

For tiers 1 and 2, I chopped the measurements in half and for tier 3 which is suuuupppper long, I had to quarter the measurement to fit it on the paper.

I had juuuuuusssst enough fabric to get all my pieces:

-1 piece for the waist band

-2 pieces for tier 1

-2 pieces for tier 2

-4 pieces for tier 3

I'm 5"1' and on the smaller side overall. I got three yards of fabric. I suggest you double that if you're taller and/or wider.

This is how thin my waist band will now be. The elastic is about 3/4 inch. I originally made this waist band to be about 2 inches and I had to cut off the seam allowance from that. I still have a generous amount left just in case I may need to widen it (hopefully not!)

I accidentally started sewing this like a left-hander, so when the thread is done, I'll start on the other side so I can finish this faster 😆

so for my french class we have to read this book about a dying child who is encouraged by a hospital volunteer to write letters to God. and my teacher was talking about how God in the book is not a detached, wish-granting deity of religion, but is rather a friend to the child, someone whom the child could share his feelings with.

and i was like:

my brother in Christ wait till you find out about God in real life

Multi-Blue Granny Square Crochet Maxi-Skirt Update #5

Update 0 | Update 1 | Update 2 | Update 3 | Update 4 | Here | Update 6

Update on my crochet skirt! All granny squares were completed, blocked AND sewn together! And it looks fantastic!

I bought lining fabric for the skirt, but honestly I don't think it will be needed!

What IS needed now though, is to weave in all those ends 😰 I also need to make the waistband.

The skirt is the width of my hips (9 squares) so I need to gradually cinch in the waist (there's a word for it in crochet, but it's not coming to mind) I also want to crochet around the bottom edge to 'clean up' the hem.

Still a lot of work, but I can't wait to finish and wear it!

Scary boyfriend privilege? No. Scary sons privilege.

Bruce who can’t go anywhere without his newly adopted ward. He follows Bruce like a sunny shadow, grin always in place.

“Dick, can I hold your hand when we cross the street?”

Dick, very sweetly, “No.”

Bruce sighs, but accepts easily. Some guy scoffs at that and asks Bruce if he’ll let his kid just talk to him like that. His kid. His heart hurts in a very good way.

He’s about to say something, but Dick interrupts him, his teeth bared full, “Weren’t you on the news for hitting an old lady with your car?”

Bruce freezing. Dick goes back to his gameboy. They hold hands when they cross the street.

It’s both scary and comforting how little he changes when he’s an adult.

Jason, on the other hand.

Although he refuses to admit it, he does follow Bruce around, too, when his dad actually has to leave the manor. It’s when Alfred says he needs sun.

“You signed a contract, sir.”

Bruce sighing, “I signed it when I was 4. In black crayon. Those don’t count.”

Damian gasped, as if discovering a vile fact, sending an accusing glare Bruce’s way. “They don’t?”

Bruce needs an excuse to haul ass fast and that’s how Jason ends up chaperoning his socially awkward, disaster of a father in his quest to pick up food.

He’s a titanic presence next to Bruce, glaring off whoever stares a little too long or too appreciatively, strong arms crossed and his eyes hard and sharp.

Bruce gently taps his bicep and he hates the way he melts. “Do you want the chicken nuggets with or without apple slices?”

“Without.”

“Jay.”

“FINE.”

Give Jason his “he asked for No pickles” moment. It has to embarrass Bruce enough to jump in traffic, thought.

Damian has his own league and none of them can really compete with it. I think, during parent’s night, he drags Bruce off to proudly showcase his gallery of portraits.

Bruce is very moved when he realizes they’re almost all him.

There’s portraits of Dick, too, and Alfred, and a comically bad one of Tim. “Damian, they’re very beautiful. Thank you.”

“I painted them with the blood of your enemies.”

“…Thank you.”

Just to let you know, if you've replied to a post that I've made and the first few words look and sound like fighting words, I stop reading and proceed to pretend like you never posted.

I REFUSE at my big age to fight on the internet. If you disagree with whatever I posted, that's fine, but it's also not my problem.

I used to fight on the internet when I was younger and it made me a mean, nasty and bitter person (only online, thankfully, but that nastiness stayed in my thoughts)

I'm older now, A LOT wiser (experience wise) and have got no time for internet BS! I came here to post art, read fan fics and occasionally post opinions.

Despite the foolishness that happens around here, I still quite enjoy Tumblr and I'm not letting anything ruin that for me!
